This Antonov An-225 Mriya Landed at the Oakland international airport (runway 30) on September 9th 2018 at about 4:30 PM
I believe the aircraft was hired by the US Government (FEMA) to pick up relief supplies in Hawaii and deliver them to Guam for the Super Typhoon Mangkhut relief effort. It stopped in Oakland California for fuel on its flight from its base in Kiev.
The Antonov An-225 Mriya (Ukrainian: Антонов Ан-225 Мрія, lit. 'dream' or 'inspiration', NATO reporting name: "Cossack") is a strategic airlift cargo aircraft that was designed by the Antonov Design Bureau in the Ukrainian SSR within the Soviet Union during the 1980s. It is powered by six turbofan engines and is the heaviest aircraft ever built, with a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tonnes (710 short tons; 630 long tons). It also has the largest wingspan of any aircraft in operational service. The single example built has the Ukrainian civil registration UR-82060. A second airframe with a slightly different configuration was partially built. Its construction was halted in 1994 because of lack of funding and interest, but revived briefly in 2009, bringing it to 60-70% completion] On 30 August 2016, Antonov agreed to complete the second airframe for Aerospace Industry Corporation of China (not to be confused with the Aviation Industry Corporation of China) as a prelude to AICC commencing series production.
The Antonov An-225, initially developed for the task of transporting the Buran spaceplane, was an enlargement of the successful Antonov An-124. The first and only An-225 was completed in 1988. After successfully fulfilling its Soviet military missions, it was mothballed for eight years. It was then refurbished and re-introduced, and is in commercial operation with Antonov Airlines carrying oversized payloads. The airlifter holds the absolute world records for an airlifted single-item payload of 189,980 kilograms (418,830 pounds)] and an airlifted total payload of 253,820 kg (559,580 lb). It has also transported a payload of 247,000 kg (545,000 lb) on a commercial flight.

At that time in 73 when she rolled in to service I thought I would never see a plane as sophisticated as the Tri Jet. Is it my imagination or am I hearing a buzz saw aft lab noise that could be heard with her center mounted duct air inlet that she had embedded in the tail ? my hearing is not that good and it may be a auditory hallucination to me. The 747 I flew from 1969 to 1975 took me all over but I fell in love with the Lockheed legend and I was forced into retirement and took the engineer spot on the 1011 in 92 , it was not the same. I still take trips American is nice to let me on, I can still fly as a PAX all though my doctor told me to slow down. I lost Rita she passed away on me in 2003 - Flying on a 74 and Tri Star also brings me close to her but they do not operate any longer. I take rides out to the AC grave yard to spend time with the the love I lost a while back,as so be it - the planes sit dismantled and I sit and keep her company hoping for one more run in the left seat.

There is a joke about this plane: Pilots suddenly hear unusual noise and the 12th pilot gets on a motorcycle to go and check where this noise comes from. He comes back in 3 days and reports: don't worry, it is cessna got inside via opened air conditioner vent, flying around one of lamps and making this noise. But, in fact, this airplane blew smaller planes out of their parking lots with its engines several times, for which owner payed charges:) Now, its rout is carefully checked and prepared before each arrival and departure

Saw it in August 1989 during one of its first appearances outside the USSR at the Abbotsford Airshow near Vancouver Canada, then the 3rd largest airshow in the world. It came head-on to the 100,000+ audience numerous times alternately dipping each wing like a giant flying whale. Taking off empty it has so much lift it practically goes up like a blimp. The Soviet delegation, which included several jet fighters, helicopters and civilian aerobatic planes, was very well received and it was a significant moment during the cultural exchanges of the 'detente' period (easing of tensions) between East and West. If you enter " AN-225 Abbotsford Airshow 1986" (it really was in '89) in YT's S.E. there is an excellent early flying video, also Farnborough Airshow 1990 in England and Oklahoma City Airshow 1990 has some good early flying video too.
