- A dazzling light show illuminated the Hong Kong skyline to celebrate the new year on Monday as protests continued across the city.
This replaced the larger annual midnight fireworks display which the city normally holds, which was cancelled by authorities citing security concerns.
On the same day, pro-democracy protesters formed human chains to block roads and were arrested by riot police in the latest anti-government demonstrations.

The fireworks by the government were actually cancelled. These were made by private companies. As you can see, this show is not as good as last year's one.

Funny, I am in Canada and watching the fireworks all around the world last night I found the Hong Kong show to be the most refreshing exactly because of the mixed light show, masterfully choreographed with the music. That is why I am back today to watch it all over again. Are you saying that this is a daily presentation? Nice!

All of these protests started because Hong Kong right wingers where so angry for no reason, China released a bill that would be good for the safety of China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, it’s just extradition. It’s like if you commit a crime in Mexico and you run to the us you can be sent back, instead of having criminals in your country, and the Hong Kong people (not most) started acting like they have been harmed. The police never used force until the Hong Kong protesters attacked the police and vandalized everything. And ignorant people that know nothing about politics start saying free hk, what do you even know about the situation?

Fireworks for Last Year was way more spectacular than this year show, with various types of unique and beautiful spectacular patterns. This year I only see Fan-Shaped fireworks in the video.

I like 2018's version better because they had an actual fireworks show with Auld Lang Syne playing. New York also had a fantastic countdown to New Year's until this year, where they didn't have a fantastic fireworks display, well they did, but it didn't have as much smoke and fireworks going, which compared to 2018 and 2019 was better than 2020's
What time will HongKong new year celebration start ?
Personally I think this is Hong Kong's best New Years celebration, it's unique. No other city (atleast that I know of) did a lightshow across it's skyline. I know people think it's bad because of no fireworks, but I like it.

I actually find this enjoyable ; sure it's not as cool and loud but ... It doesn't leave any fumes(fireworks leave fumes that cause cancer) , no one will get hurt , animals won't get traumatized..It's kind of more eco friendly than fireworks too, no waste left behind from it either. It was really cool to watch I hope in thw future other countries can also do this so that we can harm the environment less.
