    • @johnsheehy4192
      @johnsheehy4192 Před měsícem +6

      I would ask about the quality of the "evidence" that it did save lives. AFAIK, such calculations usually beg the question by assuming efficacy first. It goes something like this:
      1) Efficacy is 90% (assumption, based on early clinical trials).
      2) There were 1000 C deaths in an observation, among people who received "the treatment".
      3) Since the efficacy is 90%, then for every treated person that dies, 9 more people would have died among the treated, if they weren't treated.
      4) Therefore, 9000 lives were saved!
      If that 90% efficacy is from the 2020 trials, then the figure is completely invalid by the third (Delta) variant, the first one that surged *after* the general population was allowed their "treatment". The 90% is only valid for the first variant, and only in the population in the trial! If the trial used people never exposed previously, then even for that same variant, the efficacy could not be claimed for people already exposed to that first variant (like most of the population of NYC).

The issue behind Trump’s conviction is the NY prosecutor moved to have the law changed and the statute of limitations ignored so he could bring what used to be at most a misdemeanor of the lower order up into the felony range. It’s NEVER been done before and no other person has ever been so much as investigated for it in criminal conduct. Hello Vinay. I am 'lab scientist' from the UK.
    I am genuinely interested in how you would design a randomised trial to test social distancing, masking and other interventions.
    For context to this question, I am not an expert on clinical trials. I have watched and enjoyed the way you pick out possible confounders and other aspects (limitations) of randomised controlled clinical trials, and hopefully absorbed some of your ability to think of the possible issues with trial design, implementation and post trial analysis. In the current environment I feel I should make it clear my question does not suggest support for or is a defence for the actions of any person or institution, nor suggest such trials would be meaningless. I am genuinely interested in, for example, how a trial that, I assume would require that 'interventions' or 'non interventions' be enforced in 'treatment arm' and 'control arm' to ensure 'compliance' would be run, and how you might randomise the populations being tested, how you would power the study and what would be the end points tested?
    If you have discussed this/these in any of your other media platforms, please point me in the direction of where this discussion is.
    Thanks!
