  • Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan has slammed Barbie over the lack of male characters.
“There are a number of Barbie characters in the movie, one plays President Barbie, one plays Doctor Barbie ,,, however all the male characters in Barbie world are simply called Ken,” he said.
“So it’s pretty clear where this movie is going, this is an assault on not just Ken but all men.”

I still fail to see how Ken's depiction is an insult to all men? :I Literally, the happy end is that Barbie acknowledges the damage she has done to Ken by dismissing his feelings, acknowledging them and him finally trying to find himself as an own person, not just as an addition to Barbie.

This is a pure example of making something out of NOTHING. Barbie has always been a doll for girls, a way for children to get a sense of glamor in the most unachievable standards, and that’s the point. Dolls are to make children dream and think beyond their reality. Simple as that. Doesn’t need to be political. It’s up to the parents to guide the child where to go from there

It's not anti-men when audiences felt for the male. People loved Ken's role and are talking positively about him more than ever. It's called the Barbie movie, but Ken stole the show. Ken's now the one taking over pop-culture and memes.
The real message of the movie was about equality and all these stupid societal expectations we ALL feel pressured by at one point or another. We've all felt like we have to be perfect or we're not good enough. Good enough for who or for what? We don't really know, but we still feel it at times. That's why "I am Kenough" is trending. We've all been Ken.
TL;DR: For a movie that's supposedly anti-male, how tf is THE MALE of the movie the one trending in a good way? Ken has finally risen to pop-culture icon status thanks to the Barbie movie. This isn't what anti-male looks like.

I became a supply sgt in military reserves and later, a psychologist but I fondly recall those memories, playing with neighborhood friends, sibs, and yelling, “Reach for the sky, I have you covered!” As a great granddad, it is sorta sad to see most of the kids in solitary mode, walking/sitting with earplugs and focused on iPhones/pads. We built forts, explored woods, played ball until dark when moms/dads called us home. Imagine, in our poor neighborhood, there were about 20 + kids playing games and doing things without supervision...and we rarely got trouble. You know 90% or more of those kids went to houses of worship on Sundays....I wonder if that helped, too! Forgive an old guy’s rambling...could not help it.

People are such idiots!! This movie was not intended to hurt men and kens. This is a heartfelt movie that discusses the mistreatment and unfairness to women and barbie. Men have always been so-called “superior” women in society and always had more rights. But, now that women have more roles in society and are being treated more fairly, we can’t have a barbie movie?? Barbie is supposed to teach people, especially the young generation, what happens when 1 gender takes power and ignores the other gender. Barbie swapped society and made barbie (women) superiors to men. So, barbie (women) had all the roles and all the jobs. And, the kens (men) did nothing and lived nowhere. If this guy in this video actually watched the movie barbie, he would realize that at the end, “Barbie world” turned into “ken world” and then finally “Barbie & Ken”. This marked the day that both genders would share a world together with equal rights, feminism (which means equality to both genders), and more. The Barbie movie was supposed to teach people why our society needs to improve and get better so we can become “Barbie & Ken world”. I’m mad that Vietnam and Pakistan banned the movie. I wish more people could realize the importance of the Barbie movie to the world. It helps show and make meaning to fairness and equality for all races, genders, LGBTQIA+, people, interests, identify and what your passion is, and it promotes happiness & positivity & hopefulness. 😊

As a person who played with Barbies when I was real young- Ken has ALWAYS been a "fill in the blanks" kind of male. The center of Barbie's world are the people who play with the dolls. I had my Ken as a rough and rugged farmer- *or building houses, a vet- out working in the fields while Barbie fixed dinner. Ken was the lifeguard next to the pool (blue felt square) that saves Barbie and visa versa. Because Ken was left mostly to the child's imagination with a few outfits to play in Barbie's world. Often though, with many little girls... Ken was on the sidelines, waiting to be brought into play. -- and the movie reflects this. A movie that was made to be a spoof so they are making fun of the fact-- Ken was just a blank slate.

It isn’t critical of ALL males because the movie presents Alan as a male who actively rejects patriarchy. If anything, if you were offended at how men were represented than you didn’t get it. Alan’s little hero scene (non alpha Alan gets an alpha male archetype fight scene) was the only time any man on the movie showed any kind of quote unquote masculinity. And it was great. We kind of get a moment for the often overlooked non-alpha males that step up to the plate when necessary.

It was just pushing the girl boss narrative and I think the story line fell flat. I like the ken and barbie story better from Toy Story 3....also in the movie it kept saying Barbie is the reason for so many girls being strong women but I think that is giving Barbie too much credit, for real womens accomplishments. I believe women are strong because of there own will power and determination not because of a toy most of us quit playing with at around 13....

No, the movie is basically just feminist propaganda. It litteraly starts off with some little girls playing with their barbie dolls and then they start bashing the barbie dolls saying "We don't need to be mothers anymore!!" Then the movie also centers around women not needing men and hating men aswell (Ken is basically the antagonist in the movie and barbie hates him). On top of all that, many characters in the movie are played by transgender people, essentially giving the message that boys can be better girls than girls themselves, which is an attack not only on girls but also on boys.
I pray that parents have the sense and moral foundation to not take their little girls to watch this movie. Scary times we're living in that this kind of garbage is what's popular.

@@nobodythenobody9779 You didn’t understand a thing. If you are referring to the fact that Barbies rule in barbieland: That’s because that’s how almost every child played. There is no complain about men. In the real world some men see Barbie (-> a woman) just as some kind of object, most of powerful position are owned by man. On the other hand the equality is presented too, woman are allowed to become a doctor etc. which they weren’t years ago. Ken just brings back the rule of men to Barbieland. But I don’t see where exactly the movie is anti male. The Barbies rule due to the fact that’s how children played with Barbie, that has nothing to do with anti-Male. In fact, the movie shows that it is not right, if only one gender has the whole power. And it also shows stereotypes. The Barbies represent stereotyp girls and women, just like they would be based on prejudices, loving pink, having girls nights, care for their appearance etc. As soon as the Kens rule they represent the stereotypical behavior of a man based on prejudices, showing off their muscles, love to explain things to a woman and so on. Not to mention that the movie picks up other topics as well, criticizes that a Barbie looks “perfect” and can have a bad influence on girls, that the society still needs to learn to respect another (-> laughing at someone because they wear “strange” clothes and catcalling), the character development of Barbie and Ken (both learning they don’t need someone else in their life, they are enough and perfect the way they are, they don’t need to change for someone, they can be more than they are at the moment etc.), the critic of Mattel and so on. Most comments I have read about the “anti-male” thing refer to the fact that Barbies still rule Barbieland in the end. But since Barbieland is still a fictional place based on how children play(ed) it makes perfectly sense. How and where exactly do you see misandry in this movie?

It’s a movie about dolls. It keeps true to the franchise of Barbie and how Ken was never supposed to be forefront. He was actually an accessory to Barbie because boys typically didn’t play with Barbie and needed to be represented in careers.
The great thing about movies is that people take away different things, especially with psychological and emotional pieces. Some people view barbie as a very important political piece and focus on that while others look at it as a metaphor for growing up and seeing Barbie’s innocence as the broken innocence of an aging woman. Not just aging women but an aging human. I’m sure everyone has/will at some point experience a realization with the aging body and mind and the heaviness of human emotion. It happens when we grow up and it can be scary seeing the body morph as well as the mind.

How are women treated unfairly? Suicide rates are higher in men. Men are more likely to get harsher convictions for the same crime as a woman. Women get their own movies like this where they’re allowed to shit on men, but we don’t get the same privileges. Most of the time, in divorce cases, mothers get custody. If a woman accuses a man of a crime, she will be taken seriously and the man will be punished even if he’s innocent. There are entire days and months dedicated to women.
So please. Explain to me how in today’s world, anyone but straight white men are treated unfairly?

@@thefnafdetective you know why suicides rates are high in men? because less men decide to take an action regarding their mental health. patriarchy affects not only women but men too, it has made men think seeking out for help is weak and them rather killing themselves is better. Statistics prove it. women seek out help more often in the mental health spectrum because women in society have been conditioned to think its okay. and women get to make movies where they're allowed to shit on men because we've been in ownership of men literally since ever. women have gained an individual self only since the past 40 years or so and just in the west, third world country women still have a far along way to come. false accusations are bad and some women try to take adavantage of it, but don't you think if somebody is reporting a crime to law, it should be investigated on? there are days and moths dedicated to women because we fight for our rights. Malala was shot her in face just because she wanted to have an education. even in America today abortion rights for women are batshit. just because some women are happy and thriving doesn't mean the whole community has gained their deserved rights

Barbie in America never had a secret meaning for anyone, girls or boys.
It is was toy almost entirely for girls in my day, and many generations since my day.
    No secret meanings.
How did this "panel" go off on a tangent and into the weeds talking about completely unrelated topics?
Why can't girls just enjoy a toy that was made for them if they liked it?
I would expect a toy made for girls to be mostly about girls and the movie likewise?
This episode is really a video clip about mental illness and an argument looking for a victim.
