‘An assault on not just Ken but all men’: Piers Morgan slams Barbie

- Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan has slammed Barbie over the lack of male characters.
“There are a number of Barbie characters in the movie, one plays President Barbie, one plays Doctor Barbie ,,, however all the male characters in Barbie world are simply called Ken,” he said.
“So it’s pretty clear where this movie is going, this is an assault on not just Ken but all men.”

I still fail to see how Ken's depiction is an insult to all men? :I Literally, the happy end is that Barbie acknowledges the damage she has done to Ken by dismissing his feelings, acknowledging them and him finally trying to find himself as an own person, not just as an addition to Barbie.
Yeah I agree with you. They reached on this one
Yes. Thank you.
All men are Ken 🙌🏽

Yeah, that's actually the message of the movie!
This is a pure example of making something out of NOTHING. Barbie has always been a doll for girls, a way for children to get a sense of glamor in the most unachievable standards, and that’s the point. Dolls are to make children dream and think beyond their reality. Simple as that. Doesn’t need to be political. It’s up to the parents to guide the child where to go from there
ill bet you a hundred made up printed monies that they'll point out white ken has no crotch..no wonder the chinese want to colonize or destroy the world ...
exactly, just like supercar posters for boys. I had a Lamborghini Diablo and a Dodge Viper on my bedroom wall as a kid. I doubt I'll ever be able to afford either one of them, but it's perfectly normal to have inspirations and dreams like that, especially as a kid. After all, you need something to aim for as a kid even if you'll never get there. Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you'll land amongst the stars.
Exactly!! Im so sick of this woke shit making everything a trauma!
There is a lady in tassie who upcycles brats dolls to look like normal children. A bit of paint & repair and they no longer have the overtook glam we see so much of these days

I grew up playing with Barbies, never once did I think I was meant to look like Barbie. I didn’t think babies looked like Baby Born, or horses looked like My Little Pony. Kids aren’t as stupid as we make them out to be.

It isn't about Barbie. It is a touchstone about the perversion of traditional (and functional) human society and human identity at every level.
I played with dark haired Barbie to do her hair, I didn’t become a hairdresser. My grandma knitted her clothes, I didn’t go into fashion. She had nothing at all to do with what shaped me. I loved having her.
Legit, I hardly played with dolls, I was a total tomboy, but I loved swimming as a kid so my mum got me the Olympic swimmer Barbie, which I loved; It didn't make me 'not a tomboy' after than, and I'm lucky if I get to go swimming once a year now, let alone become an Olympic swimming champion
Dolls were never meant to reflect reality. They basically served as imaginary companions and then discarded. Most of the Barbie dolls I've owned and have seen, wound up dirty, naked, and with tangled hair when we were done playing with them.

I love watching men squirm about fictional men being treated like women in a film 🤣 it’s extraordinary.
The movie was insulting. It's funny, when men paint women in a "dumb caricature", we cancel them, make videos about them calling them pigs, have rallies and marches. But when it's the other way around it's just "arguing over a stupid doll". Funny how that works.

It's not anti-men when audiences felt for the male. People loved Ken's role and are talking positively about him more than ever. It's called the Barbie movie, but Ken stole the show. Ken's now the one taking over pop-culture and memes.
The real message of the movie was about equality and all these stupid societal expectations we ALL feel pressured by at one point or another. We've all felt like we have to be perfect or we're not good enough. Good enough for who or for what? We don't really know, but we still feel it at times. That's why "I am Kenough" is trending. We've all been Ken.
TL;DR: For a movie that's supposedly anti-male, how tf is THE MALE of the movie the one trending in a good way? Ken has finally risen to pop-culture icon status thanks to the Barbie movie. This isn't what anti-male looks like.
Just because people felt for the male doesn't mean that's what the movie makers were aiming for.
They completely failed in making males look like dumb dogs
Movie makers aim to show men in general, like Ken are useless and run around women, like Barbie, but they are supposed to be rejected
Brilliant comment. I'm one ofnthose who felt sorry for Ken. He had his feeling player all the time. And to be honest, women in adolescentes and youth ages can be Barbies, I mean, treat a guy like the 'for ever friend', make the poor dude their Ken. Just when adulthood nikcs the door, is when we realise that treat guys as Ken is perhaps not fair.
This movie was not aimed towards equality, it aims for a matriarchal society where women are in the position men once had. Instead of a goal of equality between men and women, Barbie pushes towards a world ran by women

right! I remember thinking it was too weird that they came out with other ken dolls because that created complications that my Barbie did not need. She already had the hot pink convertible and the 2 storey home with a balcony. 1 Ken made everything easier lol
And Indiana Jones is called Indiana Jones - yet an empowered super awesome female co star is added there. If all these male starring movies and shows that sold toys needed to change to cater to women then barbie needs a total ovverhaul as well.

it was so lovely watching my daughters play so imaginatively with dolls
As a boy in ancient times, I loved pretending and playing like I was Roy Rogers, Tom mix, Mickey mantle, Willie mays, GI Joe but I never became a professional ball player, cowboy or brave war hero. I became a supply sgt in military reserves and later, a psychologist but I fondly recall those memories, playing with neighborhood friends, sibs, and yelling, “Reach for the sky, I have you covered!” As a great granddad, it is sorta sad to see most of the kids in solitary mode, walking/sitting with earplugs and focused on iPhones/pads. We built forts, explored woods, played ball until dark when moms/dads called us home. Imagine, in our poor neighborhood, there were about 20 + kids playing games and doing things without supervision...and we rarely got trouble. You know 90% or more of those kids went to houses of worship on Sundays....I wonder if that helped, too! Forgive an old guy’s rambling...could not help it.

People are such idiots!! This movie was not intended to hurt men and kens. This is a heartfelt movie that discusses the mistreatment and unfairness to women and barbie. Men have always been so-called “superior” women in society and always had more rights. But, now that women have more roles in society and are being treated more fairly, we can’t have a barbie movie?? Barbie is supposed to teach people, especially the young generation, what happens when 1 gender takes power and ignores the other gender. Barbie swapped society and made barbie (women) superiors to men. So, barbie (women) had all the roles and all the jobs. And, the kens (men) did nothing and lived nowhere. If this guy in this video actually watched the movie barbie, he would realize that at the end, “Barbie world” turned into “ken world” and then finally “Barbie & Ken”. This marked the day that both genders would share a world together with equal rights, feminism (which means equality to both genders), and more. The Barbie movie was supposed to teach people why our society needs to improve and get better so we can become “Barbie & Ken world”. I’m mad that Vietnam and Pakistan banned the movie. I wish more people could realize the importance of the Barbie movie to the world. It helps show and make meaning to fairness and equality for all races, genders, LGBTQIA+, people, interests, identify and what your passion is, and it promotes happiness & positivity & hopefulness. 😊

As a person who played with Barbies when I was real young- Ken has ALWAYS been a "fill in the blanks" kind of male. The center of Barbie's world are the people who play with the dolls. I had my Ken as a rough and rugged farmer- *or building houses, a vet- out working in the fields while Barbie fixed dinner. Ken was the lifeguard next to the pool (blue felt square) that saves Barbie and visa versa. Because Ken was left mostly to the child's imagination with a few outfits to play in Barbie's world. Often though, with many little girls... Ken was on the sidelines, waiting to be brought into play. -- and the movie reflects this. A movie that was made to be a spoof so they are making fun of the fact-- Ken was just a blank slate.

I felt like the movie showed a clear effort to distinguish between the male and patriarchy.
It isn’t critical of ALL males because the movie presents Alan as a male who actively rejects patriarchy. If anything, if you were offended at how men were represented than you didn’t get it. Alan’s little hero scene (non alpha Alan gets an alpha male archetype fight scene) was the only time any man on the movie showed any kind of quote unquote masculinity. And it was great. We kind of get a moment for the often overlooked non-alpha males that step up to the plate when necessary.

I’m sick of everything being politicized.I think it’s the job of parents to instill confidence in what their children want to be not a toy.I can guarantee you that many little girls had their Barbie’s just pretending they had their own homes, children and homes, where ken was the husband too.
You are right. Barbie doll don't hurt girl's mind, as long girls don't watch sick neurotic TV debates about Barbie thematic as this one.
If they want to self sabotage Barbie sales, they just need to say Barbie is female trans and Ken is a male trans.

How about they come out with a Barbie movie where she is happily married to Ken. He happens to not just provide, but also offers support and happines. This Ken would be cast as a real man and not a 15 year old Abercrombie model. I dont think Hollywood is interested in making a movie like that.
Kens purpose has ALWAYS been to serve Barbie.
It's not to serve barbie... That's weird to say
Ken was literally only created because people like peirs bitched that barbie was single.
That's the only reason he exists.
I thought they were a couple
Slave*
It's ok. Both barbie and Ken serve only themselves. They live in separate apartments and maintain their career in corporate America. Soon their jobs will be replaced by automation and they'll have nothing to live off because they cannot retire. Their social security will dry up because none of the Barbies and kens had children and eventually they will die elderly and single like they originally planned for
Uhhh it's weird to play with only Barbies and not have any male characters. How are you gonna play house? My ken doll didn't serve Barbie...he dated her.
Equal opportunities do not lead to equal outcomes. Men and women are psychologically and biologically different and there's nothing you can do about them no matter how much you try to defeat gender stereotypes, the patriarchy, etc. Therefore if you give them the same opportunities then the outcomes will not be the same.
Amen. 💯
"if you give them the same opportunities" In some cases they don't have the same opportunities. If women make it through their studies without encountering a male professor who has a diminished view of women, she will likely encounter men at some point in her career who do, and those men might be her superiors, the ones who decide whether or not she advances, or gets a raise, or gets a bonus.

Tell me you've not seen the movie without telling me
I tried to watch 10min of Barbie and I wish I could wash my brain off. I think this is clever marketing by Matel. I loved barbie when I was a girl but this movie was awful. It was just pushing the girl boss narrative and I think the story line fell flat. I like the ken and barbie story better from Toy Story 3....also in the movie it kept saying Barbie is the reason for so many girls being strong women but I think that is giving Barbie too much credit, for real womens accomplishments. I believe women are strong because of there own will power and determination not because of a toy most of us quit playing with at around 13....
I always thought Barbie was good for girls because it told them that even if your pretty and care about your looks you can still be whatever you want. I thought it was a good contrast to all the movies and TV shows where the pretty girl was dumb and vain while the "ugly" ones were the smart ones.
Also, since it was a toy marketed towards girls Ken never really had a job that I'm aware of and I thought it was hilarious that they actually took that and poked fun that the man was the trophy instead of the woman.

Reverse the gender and see how the thing goes.
No, the movie is basically just feminist propaganda. It litteraly starts off with some little girls playing with their barbie dolls and then they start bashing the barbie dolls saying "We don't need to be mothers anymore!!" Then the movie also centers around women not needing men and hating men aswell (Ken is basically the antagonist in the movie and barbie hates him). On top of all that, many characters in the movie are played by transgender people, essentially giving the message that boys can be better girls than girls themselves, which is an attack not only on girls but also on boys.
I pray that parents have the sense and moral foundation to not take their little girls to watch this movie. Scary times we're living in that this kind of garbage is what's popular.

When men dare to call out misandry we are called insecure or sexist
But women will make an entire movie about it
@@nobodythenobody9779 You didn’t understand a thing. If you are referring to the fact that Barbies rule in barbieland: That’s because that’s how almost every child played. There is no complain about men. In the real world some men see Barbie (-> a woman) just as some kind of object, most of powerful position are owned by man. On the other hand the equality is presented too, woman are allowed to become a doctor etc. which they weren’t years ago. Ken just brings back the rule of men to Barbieland. But I don’t see where exactly the movie is anti male. The Barbies rule due to the fact that’s how children played with Barbie, that has nothing to do with anti-Male. In fact, the movie shows that it is not right, if only one gender has the whole power. And it also shows stereotypes. The Barbies represent stereotyp girls and women, just like they would be based on prejudices, loving pink, having girls nights, care for their appearance etc. As soon as the Kens rule they represent the stereotypical behavior of a man based on prejudices, showing off their muscles, love to explain things to a woman and so on. Not to mention that the movie picks up other topics as well, criticizes that a Barbie looks “perfect” and can have a bad influence on girls, that the society still needs to learn to respect another (-> laughing at someone because they wear “strange” clothes and catcalling), the character development of Barbie and Ken (both learning they don’t need someone else in their life, they are enough and perfect the way they are, they don’t need to change for someone, they can be more than they are at the moment etc.), the critic of Mattel and so on. Most comments I have read about the “anti-male” thing refer to the fact that Barbies still rule Barbieland in the end. But since Barbieland is still a fictional place based on how children play(ed) it makes perfectly sense. How and where exactly do you see misandry in this movie?

It’s a movie about dolls. It keeps true to the franchise of Barbie and how Ken was never supposed to be forefront. He was actually an accessory to Barbie because boys typically didn’t play with Barbie and needed to be represented in careers.
The great thing about movies is that people take away different things, especially with psychological and emotional pieces. Some people view barbie as a very important political piece and focus on that while others look at it as a metaphor for growing up and seeing Barbie’s innocence as the broken innocence of an aging woman. Not just aging women but an aging human. I’m sure everyone has/will at some point experience a realization with the aging body and mind and the heaviness of human emotion. It happens when we grow up and it can be scary seeing the body morph as well as the mind.
