Damn, didn’t even realize that all of the tracks I loved in Genshin weren’t even by Yu Peng Chen… even though I had always given him all the credit. I feel kind of bad that the other composers who made such amazing music weren’t recognized until now!
So many people are making statements about how Genshin’s OST will go downhill, but for me personally I think it’ll just keep getting better. And it’s showing with Fontaine rn (my personal opinion/taste)
I’m not saying Yu Peng Chen’s music is any less than the others and he is still incredible! And I can’t wait to see what he will do for future projects! But it feels a little sad and discrediting to the other composers who made iconic Genshin tracks and are being disregarded because of his statement

Yu Peng Chen creates expressive songs with an opera feel that hypes up your senses,
Dimeng Yuan creates chill songs to vibe onto,
Xin Zhao creates a more playful song that're easy to listen to,
Yiyun Jiang creates a rather emotional song that is based on the character/theme it was composed for.
this is just my opinion tho, but this is exactly what i felt listening to this comparison. Heck, i wouldn't even know who composed which if you didn't write them down.

Hi! Adding on, as a Chinese who loves the Genshin OST, I think the Liyue music just sounds like home to me. It’s very correct in terms of culture and ethnic charm, I must admit that maybe it’s because Mihoyo is a Chinese company.

Oh wow! That’s pretty amazing! I love doing video game music analysis, so I notice little musical trends of each regions and so at the very least, I can tell that the music is internally consistent (eg each region sounds very unique to itself without being musically ooc). It’s so cool to hear from someone who is Arab to feel connected to a part of the OST that I love but cannot culturally relate.
Now I’m typing this mostly for my own fun, but here’s some stuff I found about Sumeru themes!
I noticed that most of it is in the Doric minor keys and a melody often “loops in” on itself. I also noticed that there is intensification, which is when they play a melody faster a few times to make it more intense emotionally (think Port Ormos’ chorus ending).

his compositions are amazing, he creates such intense and interesting tracks that are still talked about to this day (like Zhongli's theme and Port Ormos OST)
i'm not too worried though, because the other composers are just up my alley, I love jazz and the use of trumpets and have been enjoying Fountaine's OST like crazy (+ Collei's & Yelan's theme were my favourites)
i feel like the genshin community is overreacting from being used to having been spoilt by his good music and end up discrediting other good genshin composers

Yes, truly thank you and let's bid a fond farewell to Yu-Peng *Chen (not Yu-Pengchen). You will surely be missed, Music Archon!
Now, that aside, I see a lot of people connect this for their impressions and/or dislike for Fontaine music. Let me just quickly ask? Did y'all love Sumeru's desert OSTs? Think carefully now 🎵~ Even do some bit of research. If you didn't like them and only loved the rainforest tracks, then fine, go ahead and diss Fontaine's music. But if you did, then let me pull the rug from under you. You've been loving the works of Fontaine's composers for nearly a year now.
Yes, the ones listed in this video are truly just some of the tracks not composed by our Music Archon. All that's left is to play nearly the entire "The Unfathomable Sand Dunes" album! Shocked? The vast majority of the tracks in that album were NOT composed by YPC. And this went unnoticed (even miscredited) for 3 desert expansions + Veluriyam Mirage! It prolly would've remained so if not for this announcement!
Edit: Oh well. Many are now acting ala Furina, hiding behind bravado and drama, saying "B-but I already thought the desert osts were kinda off!". Really? You're saying this only now? 👀 Sigh... In that case I request you to look into "composition vs arrangement", and then review who arranged your fave tracks. There might just be a few surprises there. Honestly, arranging is an integral yet gruesome part of music production, and arrangers are often underappreciated.
Anyways, the point is, Genshin remains in very capable hands music-wise despite our Music Archon leaving ala Zhongli leaving Liyue. The reasons then for preferring Sumeru's music more than Fontaine's are more due to the differences in cultures, instruments and genres instead of in composers.

I wanted to make a video just like this one, glad you got the same idea because I would have been to lazy to go and actually do it. Yu-Peng Chen is 100% the best composer this game ever had, but that's not to say everyone else was worse. If his soundtracks were 100%, Dimeng Yuan and Yijun Jiang would both be 95%. The rest, I can't speak for, but those other two could easily fill the shoes left by such a legend.
I'm still quite disappointed by such a turn of events, but I always had a feeling that something like this would happen. Yu-Peng is just too good to be restrained to working on one game (a live service one that will continue for several years, no less), he deserves to go pursue his passion. Now that he's more well known, I think he'll be successful no matter where he ends up.

Besides music from fontaine which is more "regional" I noticed that most of the soundtrack in this video are some kind of "remixes" etc. I mean, you can hear there instruments but so can you hear the beat and other stuff that you can hear in trap or smth. Maybe it's bc most of it were character demos, but personally I prefer casual soundtrack, without twists like this, but I must admit, even If I like "casual" music more, sometimes such things as beat, more electronical elements etc are really good too :DD For example Scara Boss theme or Wriothesley theme, I really like these :DDD

I think his style of music while being very good, is kind of very action-ey.
Zhongli and Nahida’s themes made you want to get up and start something.
And the scara boss fight music is still one of my favorites, but the overall theme of genshin seems more atmospheric and vibey rather than actioney, so I think he probably had to suppress his creative spirit for his music for the game and he got tired of doing that.
Just a theory, a game theory.

Personally, I think the melody is the important part here; YPC creates amazing melodies that can be remixed into many things, but without him there's nothing to go off of.
