    Hello all, not that good at chess, but I have a question.
    At 38:45, would a better move by Magnus have been to move his G4 Pawn to capture at H5?
    It seems if he did this, Nakamura would have needed to counter his G6 Pawn to H5.
    Then, Magnus could just let his King capture at H5.
    Would that have been considered a good, or better, move?
    I'm aware he won anyway.
    Thanks in advance. Sorry for the necro post. I just watched this game.
    Trying to get better at chess.

    At 15:36 in the video, once Magnus moved his pawn d4xe5, Hikaru should have moved his bishop from Bd6 to Bb4
    Reason: Hikaru gains tempo due to a discovered attack on the queen with his rook, and he attacks the e1 rook with his bishop now. If Magnus goes for an attack on the g6 knight and the d8 rook with his h4 bishop, Hikaru still has the f7 pawn to recapture

      I guess it can be solved by moving queen to Qa3 so the black bishop is pinned to protect its queen, then hikaru have to choose between saving the knight from the white pawn (rook d8 would be attacked by bishop h4) or move the queen releasing it from pin.

      If black plays Rc5, white plays Kg5, if black takes the rook, then the king retakes, and the black pawn is lost. White pawn is a protected pass pawn, and the g pawn is already on 6th rank. White king chases the black pawn, go back up and do opposition maneuver.

    • @SeoFam01
      @SeoFam01 Před 2 lety +4

      No because white can actually trade rook, case down the black pawn and still be able to queen. It's a timing issue. Look up something called the rule of the square. Also another things is that black cant push his king and pawn at the same time.
