Canada Goose with shattered wing flies again!

- When we rescued this goose from the dangers of the UK's busiest motorway, the M25, his future was very bleak...
The bones in his right wing were completely shattered, broken in multiple places. As the fracture was too bad to have any surgery, we put a bandage on it and hoped a callus would form to mend the wing. We hoped he might fly again, but we doubted it.
After a few weeks, his wing had healed enough to allow him to be released on a lovely and safe lake. He now lives happily with other geese on a bird-lovers private lake! And even better news - he CAN fly!!
What a great outcome for a bird that could have ended up under a fast moving car!

Amazing that he recovered after that horrible breakage.
Glad to see him well recovered and not hesitate to use his wings! All of you have been doing great things for the world.
Thank you :)
I love it when Simon does his character voice. He really gets into the animal head and heart.
So touching! Just love your sweet words to the goose. It's amazing that it can fly again. Thank you so much.
Hi from France, I'm near Paris where I enjoy your videos a lot. I'm and we are with you by thought. Great jobs you are doing. It changes from all atrocities we saw everyday. What a great channel to see regularly.
Patrick Dupont Merci pour ton message Patrick! Continue de nous suivre, de regarder et partager nos videos!
Just wanted to say thanks for all of your effort. Absolutely heartwarming. ♥
Thanks :)
Wow you guys deserve the greatest amount of respect. What you do is incredible and I love the Channel!
It's amazing how much progress has been made in veterinarian science to the benefit of wild and domestic animals alike. Now we just have to figure out how to make people from abusing them and to clean up after themselves (fishing line, trash, etc)
What a lovely release site!
not to make Simon feel old, but whenever I hear his voice, i think of Animal Planet and watching the show on there :)
When the goose hissed, it actually meant, "Thank you for going through all that trouble to rescue me and nursing me back to health."
Geese love to hiss. I like to hear them hiss too. It's an "annoyed " sound, but peculiarly interesting
i know this is just one goose in a massive world and rough wild that doesn't care much wether it lives or dies, but what you guys did is honestly heartwarming, was sitting here smiling the most of the time. Beautiful work, keep it up
My favorite videos are the releasing back into the wild video.
I never would have believed it if you hadn't of filmed it flying about in that pen! I'm pleasantly surprised at it's recovery and release! :)
Same here! amazing that the goose could go back to the wild after all it's been through, and have a full life to look forward to :)
You guys are truly amazing. I don't know anyone like you people. To give wild animals a second chance in life maybe a third is soo kind. Do please continue such great work. It makes me happy watching your videos.
You guys are heroes! Love to see it!!
Stunning that he recovered when the bone was so shattered!
goose: LET GO OF ME FREAK YOUR AN wait.....what is this? more land? for me? filled with my type?
Goose: You're not that lovely vet nurse! HISSS!!!! I SHALL HISS AT THEE!
Glad to see how well he's done! :D
Lovely to see his little tail wag once you released him, fab stuff ✌👍
God bless you ❤
What a lovely outcome! 😊🙏
I expected the Goose not to want to leave the cage, glad to be proven wrong, I'd chalk that down as another satisfied customer.
Great to get updates, thanks for sharing and all the work you do!
\you are welcome, and thank you :)
What a lucky little guy!!! Great work!

aptly named to get a badger to wiggle his tail again
Hello from Iowa, the US. Been watching your videos for an hour now after stumbling across this video about baby hedgehogs sneezing, hit that subscribe button almost immediately. I wish you as many happy endings as with M25 here as you can get, I had little hope that he would fly again after seeing the X-ray. May your calls to 'battles' be few but always in victory.
Semper Fidelis, Semper Vincit.
+sniperwolf Hello from Yorkshire, England. So glad you found this. I only found it a year ago so you're way ahead of me. I hope you're still a fan and I wish you a very happy new year.
How lovely💕💜
I would have never thought that wing breaks like that could heal well enough for release. I've seen a couple birds with broken wings that were unreleasable, and I'm sure their injuries didn't look as severe.
Yay! So glad it is ok. Hope he is grateful. After all a motorway was shut down for him :p
I just LOVE you people ♡♡
What an amazing piece of surgery ..Do you take humans ? Have always said vets are the best ....Promise not to hiss ..Canada Geese are so wonderful ...Thanks WAF👍
no surgery at all actually, that's the amazing part! it was too damaged to operate on, it was a case of splint & hope for the best
goose was like: catch me if you can
beautiful goose, and very very nice enclosure. you guys do great and this is the first time i have gotten a good look at the setup over there. very very nice cage/rescue area. wonderful!

Canada Geese are the best Geese by far.

What would have happened if he wasn't able to fly?
❤️👍🙏
I guess I'm happy for the bird but one thing we don't need is more Canada Geese.lol
lol yeah it would be good if they all went back to Canada :P but if they need our help because they are injured then thats what we do :)
Do the Canada geese in Britain fly south for the winter or do they stay there year round? Where I am in Canada, the Canada geese gather in huge flocks in spring and fall on the river, coming from and going to warmer climates. They all chatter to each other constantly as if they're excitedly meeting friends they hadn't seen for a year. If the geese migrate in England, would its wing be strong enough to carry itself on the long flights?
Also, what was that other type of bird I saw in the video? The emerald green, white and black speckled one with the red face. It kind of looks like a pigeon but I've never seen a pigeon with such gorgeous colouring.
The one at 1:16? That's no pigeon but it looks like some other sort of goose.
Held my breath when he was banging his wing all over the place. O.O
Bit the button noses roof? It's already dead so now the goose has fingers tips at the end of the wing so what's it's going to do now
Notice how the goose just stepped out of the transport cage and ambled over to the water ❤
does the goose fly at night?
Are Canada geese native to the UK or are they an invasive species?
How do they have Canada goose in Europe?
Do you know of any wildlife rescues in Washington that can amputate snow goose wing I don’t want them to put her down I just found the goose with broken wing tonight on the road
This is probably a stupid question, but do they migrate? Is it a necessary thing for them? Would he be able to?
lyraface Canada Geese were introduced from North America and researches show that they live here all year around. This particular individual wouldn't be able to migrate with his damaged wing, but he doesn't need to, so he can live here happily without worrying! :)
+Wildlife Aid Really? They don't migrate there at all? That's really interesting- I guess it really shows the differences in our climates (Canada vs. England).
+Wildlife Aid Oh! Thank goodness! I was realy worrying about that
Will it fly to Canada ?
Wikipedia says the ones in Europe are non-migratory so it's at home.
Should I call someone? There is this Canada goose out in the front of my house with a badly injured wing - I'm talking he can't even move it and its dragging on the ground. I gave him some bread but I don't want to stress him.
Yes, you should've. I hope you called someone!
+Halo LPS I don't mean to be a bitch but ...You could type your question here but not find the number to call WAF, the very channel you're watching. Please tell us you called them.
Do greylag geese and Canada geese see each other as friends, any other animal, or a foe
+Samuel Callejo Yes, they are friends!
That's great! Just a question, with that bad of a broken wing, why didn't you put him down? I'm glad he is alive and well, but usually for something like that i'd think it would be best to end its suffering.
I almost got attacked by a canada goose when i stumbled upon their nest. Later, the father chased me down the creek!
+Kriminal Dragons Although the wing was badly broken, it was still repairable. If there is a good chance that the bones could heal, we will always try to fix it so the animal can make it back to the wild. If we had thought it was too bad, we would not have tried and we would have to put it down. Luckily, in this case the bones may have been shattered, but as they were not too badly displaced, we were optimistic about the possibility of recovery. We tried, and it paid off as the wing healed and we were able to release the goose back to the wild!
Wildlife Aid Thats awesome! The vet knows best I guess!
