- In today's video I'm going to look at mathew zlat's weighted calisthenics program and give my full opinion. This is a weighted calisthenics program that he used for weighted dips and weighted pull ups.

What's up everyone. My name is Thibaut and on this channel, I'm going to take you along my calisthenics journey. I'm going to give you guys a mix of informative videos, vlogs, full days of eating, workouts etc. I give you valuable tips/advice that you can use with your own calisthenics training mixed with videos about my own training. My goals at the moment are the one arm pull up, front lever, planche and handstand push ups and getting stronger at weighted calisthenics. Interesting review. I have plateaued on my weighted pull up and found his program today. Was going to give it a go however I do pretty insane volume ( employed in a gym and basically live there lol). Still I will try this out while keeping my other workout stuff the same. I don't expect to be able to progress much but seemed fun to test.
Would be interesting to see what happens.
@@thibaut4792 Yeah but like I wrote I do a lot of volume so will probably not suit me. I do upper lower split. Upper takes around 3 hours. Rest long between sets and do a lot of stuff.
Currently im at +52 kg 1 rep, 85 kg bodyweight. Goal is not so much 1 rep max improvement but rather being stronger at around the 5 rep range. Would be cool to do perfect form 5 reps with say 45 kg. Done 40 for 5 at my strongest. Cant do it now. Lost strength since I started experimenting.
@@Ratatosk80 How much did you progress bro? It's been 4 months
I really suport the contens, keep it up👍👍👍
Thanks you!
I was looking around for ways to increase my weighted pullups and definetly gave that guys video a look. My initial reaction was that one would end up stalling super fast because of how fast the weight increments go up every single workout. +5kg plus for hitting 8 reps in one workout? (I also wanted to keep working on my Overhead strength and some other things which would have strongly interefered with the program). I definitely like your idea of making one of the three a light day and now I might just give it a try if I want to just focus purely on pullups/dips. his version just seems like you'd get worn down rather quickly, not being able to recover enough, It might work well for him, but I think part of that might be due to him having well above average aptitude when it comes to increasing strength.
Give it a go if you want and let me know what happends! Thanks for the support!
@@thibaut4792 Matthew also has the routine in PDF form which I assume has revisions/updates from the youtube video which is 5 years ago. Something interesting is the weight progressions are much smaller (EX: 8 reps on the final set with a possible rep or two in reserve is only a 2.5kg increase instead of 5, while 0 RIR is a 1.25kg increase). And getting 5 reps on the final set calls for a deload of 5-10kg. Also 3 sets exclusively recommended rather than 3-4.
He also has a second stage titled “Advanced Novice” which is recommended when the progressions become too heavy(intense) to be done 3 times per week. He lowers the rep range to 3-6, and the mid week workout he treats as a light day with 2x5 with 3-4 RiR (variations changed to pause dips and Explosive pullups). I found this very interesting because it’s very similar to what you recommended with taking that midsession a little easier. And overall these changes make a ton more sense in the program(s).
And no problem, I just found your channel, watched a couple videos, and plan on binging a bunch. 😅You make a ton of sense that always matches up with my own experiences. I hope you don't become too annoyed with all the notifications I'll probably end up giving you. 🤣
I have a question, when doing 3 sets of pulldowns in a workout, do you go to failure straight away or do you add weight each set and hit failure in last set?
Most people keep the weight the same but you only come close to failure on your last set.
@@thibaut4792 so last set to failure to determine weight gain for the next session? Thanks for the answer😁
Yess!
I stopped progressing in weighted pull ups I guess because of my grip strength, when I achived 20kg×7 I couldn't do more because my fingers started slipping from the bar , knowing that I'm heavy(94kg).
What can I do to get over this plateau ? Please.
Had that exact problem myself and using chalk solved that for me. You could also work on your grip strength.
forearm/grip exercises
(Weighted) deadhangs
Farmer carries and heavy dumbbell rows
What if i don't have these small increments of weights in the gym?? Reply please
Your gym doesn't have 2,5kg plates?
Use a bag or drink water lol
you are suposed to actually try a program before you give your "final opinion"... I did his program and my one rep max chin up went from 28kg to 52kg in 2 months and a half.
You clearly didn't watch the full video ...
@@thibaut4792 I literally quoted your own words and you still come with the excuses "you clearly didn't watch the video" ?
Wait a second ... I totally misinterpreted your comment.
This program is on my to-try list but this was my review based on my knowledge of training programming. I'm going to try this program myself in the future.
but question is could u have done any other program and do same progress ? possibly, i see absolutly nothing revolutionising except a simple linear overload
@@Lechedeesnuts the extraordinary thing is that this program forces you to stall as fast as possible, it goes against the logic of all other programs...stalling means your body will eventually be forced to grow muscle to gain more strength
bro is small...?...?..?.
He’s likely to be on roids, he can recover properly in a such a high frequency
Probably, he can only prove it if he takes steroids now (if he is natural) and gets +10kg dips and pullups or smth
Not sure about that.
@@thibaut4792you believe he is natty when he dipped 190kg?
i think he's natty not, but he said he's gonna use it in the future...so why not believe him
Guys, you don't know how much Mathew is a genetic freak
