Every one in my family are just plain impressed with me. I'm 67. I just have 0 money lol and my dirt is free and so is the hay because it grew in the lot next to me by accident. And my dirt has the perfect amount of sand clay!! I'm doing this alone however over lath made of vástago stems from palm. It's an experiment so far. And so far is looking good!
make sure not to let any wood or plant product parts touch or be buried in groundwater,they expand can contract very strongly and can crack cob or cement ! good boots and hat! good luck!

Maybe a more accurate title would be, "Philosophies behind using cob as building material" instead of the current one. Judging from another comment, I wasn't the only one misled.
I told my brother about building with cob and he said " You want to live in a mud hut?". Lol most people don't get why this an amazing way to build your home.
Surely, I absolutely must build a mud house now. Living in a mud house surrounded by nature is just the thing that I want. Thanks guys for this great inspiring video.
The part I loved and made me smile, was when he said he never signed a contract or had a firm deadline, it was gonna take as long as it took :)

Earthen homes are so intune with the real spirit of life and existence, we are indeed one with the earth and to build a home with hands and feet does indeed infuse the spirit of those who helped to build it.
Earthen homes is definitely a trend I pray will continue to gain traction and the wide spread popularity it deserves.
My people have been building like that for 1000s of years, walked bearfoot and had health benefits for doing so. But we have been called uncivilized. With all this technology that u guys have u still behind when it comes to how nature works. Some of u guys start being humble and want to learn, I guess that's good. In the mean time we will wait for u to catch up with our technology. Yes im talking bout african great civilisation.
It's all psychological games
Perhaps its more useful to look first at what the word civilised means. Colonial Elites used used,brutality ,murder and enslavement of people in other peoples countries in order to enrich themselves. How were they able to do that. Because they had practice. The history of Europe is of Empires and war and so they developed skills and technology to affect the means to use violence to plunder. This is true of all cultures that develop hierachies. This was true of the African civilisations as well which were equally as sophisticated. Where human beings have been shown to behave with more real intelligence towards their environment is those that live in forests and jungles or deserts as hunter gatherers. They live in small groups and in the tribes that survived for thousands of years everyone is regarded as equal. Civilisation is thought to be the highest form of man but they always end in its opposite.
Same here, from India. Too much interference, colonization was a crime against commonsense. Technology is for wars, not for harmony with nature.
You are 100% correct about this dude. Let's combine technology and primitive skills together and the outcome would be fantastic.

when i was a child in England living on my dads farm we lived in a house made of Wiltshire chalk clay horse hair and hazlewood wattle s its like a panel of hazel branches interwoven about 4 by 8 ft that house was built in 1684 it contained a fresh water well in the kitchen an twelve plus foot wide inglenook fireplace with all the cooking devices crane like device 6 grown men could sit around the fire when it was damped down a bit the exterior walls were 5 to six feet deep at ground level tapering to 3 feet at the eaves wheat straw thached roof wich my dad redone as he was a thatcher as well as a farmer that house is still standing today and i can recall mother actually started the fire for Christmas celebrations and kept it lit burning till new year's day was over

This is amazing, I grew up with family that lived in the forest, our home was a mud-hut and I worked my self away from this and became aware of concrete house building with steel etc., which I worked hard to pay for with a 30yr mortgage. I worked at the Bank and so money was available and I now have a 2 storey building and I am still building. Now I want to go back and build a mud-hut that was my childhood days with freedom that we have. I love the coziness and the earth. Nice.

This is really neat. I have always wanted to build my own house and now I think I would like to seriously give cob a try. I am going to do a lot more research on this, but it makes me excited.
DeeJay If you are still interested in researching cob building, there is a very good book called “the cob builders handbook“ by Becky Bee. I Purchased a gently used copy from an online secondhand book seller.

@@dawidczerniak5177 No, unfortunately I haven't been able to get any land yet! I am finally going to move to Colorado though after the summer and will be looking at land then! It's exciting.

@@angeladawn2343 hey angela...the walls need to be built up off the ground a good bit...id say 2ft or more for good measure..then using a lime based plaster as a final coat, hardens and keeps the real heavy moisture out, and, the roof needs to o er hang out a good 3 or more ft so it keeps the rains from hittin the actual wall..

This video appears to be a pipe dream. I would argue that it is meant to increase the appetite of the wealthy so that they can camouflage their self proclaimed status as "middle class." And once it becomes popular among them then it will no longer be affordable to ordinary working class and/or those who used to have no other option but to build with cob.

I lived in an old adobe house in Mesa AZ. The walls were thick and stored the day's heat in summer where the AC would work overtime during late evenings.

we built a strawbalehouse and its great but by choice I would have built with cob, but in Germany building loadbearing is not allowed and so its not the house I really, really love to live in, though its feeling good with all the clay inside, warm, dry, kind of quiet....
Thanks for giving that very inspiring video to the world , hope many more houses will be build this way and maybe I can finally find a place where I can build my dream.

it feels like our indian ancestors all knowledge has been taken by other countries & we indians only never understood the value of our ancestors knowledge of building cob house , living simple life & eating simple organic food & their ancient learning in every manner that was kind to each & every animals .. It’s all was with us but thn we called muddy people by thn & now these people are genius. I’m really feeling so sorry for ourselves that we didn’t care their value, their approach of life & their view on everything that has purpose to live an completely organized organic life but we’re thankful to them that they left us legacy & we had our ancestors who built the lifestyle that was always encouraging entirely earthly values. I still remember my grandparents cob buildings in my village,they are still standing since 100s of yrs ..As children we lived there, played there .. cob houses were not only in my village but everywhere in indian villages we had cob houses but we were called villagers, muddy people.. should our Indian ancestors not deserve an recognization, i just question?

in a day and age where people want to impact every aspect of people's lives right down to a 6 yr-old's sexuality....it's so nice to hear someone remind us that we don't want to impact other people's backyards. beautiful video on too many levels to list here....as someone who's worked with his hands with tile stone and cement for 30+ years ..... thanks for this inspirational call to nature and aesthetic remembrance to that from which we arose.

My grandmother used to live in a house just like this one up until the early 90s - made of cob and built in a south indian, traditional Tamil way. Then came this thing called “modernization” and everyone started building with concrete, plastic and other nonsense. The result is what you see today - most cities in India are an unmanaged concrete mess.

Any problems with termites?
I've had issues (visible mud tunnels) in my traditional house. No mud tunnels in a very long time (after poisoning), but I always wonder if they're still eating my house... or did structural damage to it.

Any one know how well cob holds up to being frozen. At 5000 ft in the Rockies that's my only concern with it.
In which season should this be done? I live in South Central US, and I hoping through fall and winter. Digging trenches (footings?) now.
