  • This is an exclusive documentary of Cathay Pacific Airways Communication Department in 1998 that my neighbour, pilot for Cathay Pacific, gave to me.
The documentary contains aerial footage that will never seen again and features the sons of Cathay Pacific Airways' founders Roy Farrel and Sydney de Kantzow as they recount their fathers' roles in the developement of Kai Tak Airport and Cathay Pacific

Oh wow I’m the crew in the first 20 seconds of the documentary. How time flies. It was 1998 February when I was still with CX.

I remember buying that VHS tape from the CX cabin crew when I was like 12 years old. Good memories.

We were friends of Captain Charles ( Chic ) Ether. He was also my Judo Instructor when i was a youngster. He had a fascinating life as a Pilot with Cathay Pacific. My Father was an Air Traffic Controller at Kai Tak from 1961-1980

Fascinating packing of 50 plus years of history into less than 20 minutes. Thanks for posting this. Just yesterday I had run across fact that the very first commercial airline hijacking was of a Cathay Pacific plane in late 40's, and then I ran across this looking for videos of Kai Tak, and this film ended up being so very much more. Worth the time to watch the whole thing.

Very nice video. I flew a corporate BAC 1-11 into Kai Tak a few times in my career. The most fun and scariest approach Ive ever made.

5:18 if one did a history on CX HKG-MNL they had a head start over PR on that route because they did HKG Kai Tak to Sydney Kingsford Smith via Vilamor AFB MNL. Competition with them and Philippine airlines started on September 5th 1946. These days Farrell and De Kanzow's airline beats the Filipino flag carrier on HKG-MNL and it's ULH versions MNL-HKG-YYZ/JFK/EWR.

Why are they having so many problems even with the recovery of other airlines? Is it HK's draconian policies?
