Shoe repairer here. Please scuff up the sole before you glue it. It makes the bond much longer lasting because the glue has more surface area to stick to.

I noticed that too. However, since he stitched at the edge, it doesn't matter that much as the stitching will secure the sole and upper. It'll also be helpful when the sole need replacement and the cobbler don't have to fight with strong glue to remove the worn off sole.

Umm he glued the flesh side to the rubber sole no need to rough it up. The inside needs roughing before the inner sole is attached which he didn't show but he did everything correctly.

A tip on the non water based glue -
For difficult things to get positioned... do the regular glue on each piece... let it dry completely .
    This becomes a primer coat.
Then, add a fresh layer of glue and put the parts together while wet. This gives a slippery few moments to push tight curves into place.
This method needs longer to dry, like overnight. You can test it on scraps, I learned this method from saddle makers.
Some saddle parts are so curvy and tight... they even do a method of - prime the piece with glue, let it dry completely - then soak the leather to make it moldable . next dry off the primer layer, add new wet glue, and then put the parts together.
    .
    Makes difficult fitting much easier.

First time I saw Tony sharpen a carpet knife blade I thought he was just being thrifty… and maybe so, then I tried it myself. WHOA! Give those blades a little love on a strop and you can make them RAZOR SHARP!! Much sharper than out of the box! Thanks again, Tony 👍🏼

I just don't like having to deal with disposing them, so I sharpen my utility knife blades.
It's just plain wasteful and potentially hazardous to throw them away.

Hi Tony, quick question...I just bought your fabulous pattern for the sneakers and they made up okay (bit tight on the inside where the front sections meet the sides) but I was wondering if the sole pad "left" and "right" labels being the wrong way around is the only piece that's wrong? Kinda pulls funny across the toe now that I've worn them for a couple of days but that is probably me not knowing exactly the right tension for the stitching! I've made around 30 pairs of conventionally made boots and shoes and your system is WAY quicker and easier. I love your patterns and videos, always look forward to your new ones.
