A basic introduction to venepuncture in 5 min - flipping the classroom

As part of our flipped classroom teaching this is the basic introductory video we get our medical students to watch before attending a workshop that then builds on the subject - it is not designed to be a stand alone teaching tool but we thought we would make it available incase it was of use to anyone else.

If you insert at a 30 degree angle and insert fast, you will blow the vein a high percentage of the time! From experience as a ICU nurse, go at a degree more parallel to the vein more like 5 or 10 degree angle, insert until you see a flash, then advance the catheter. Happy vein hunting!
