As Lovebites' members say "Just because we play heavy metal (and IMHO, better than most male bands) we did not see the need to give up our femininity". Do they really need to ape male groups and wear leather and torn T-shirts to be taken seriously ? No, because they can outplay most of those male bands with one hand tied behind their backs.
How do the guitars sound "out of place"? What you are hearing (possibly for the first time) is elite level musicians playing live who were recorded by very capable sound engineers. Also, what does a rock band "look" like, and who gets to decide? No woman should feel pressured to sacrifice their feminity or have to cosplay a biker chick just because they play heavy music. Lastly, she's singing in English - it's just that her pronunciation and enunciation are imperfect as she is singing in a non-native language. To LOVEBITES fans, this is a feature, not a bug, and her English has improved significantly in her more recent recordings.
A new version of this song was released a few days ago. It is interesting to note that when this song is played live by LOVEBITES it is always an opportunity to let the bass players "shine" as well. In this version it was the Lovebites founder Miho, in the new version it is the new young bass player FAMI, who is also outstanding. The thrash metal song "The Hammer of Wrath" was written by bass player Miho and it remains an excellent song for the bass players.
Lovebites has been around since 2016, and the women became more famous worldwide after performing at several major festivals, mainly in Europe, starting in 2018.

2020, their career was abruptly interrupted by Corona. But they masterfully overcame the crisis, got married and had babies. In 2021 the founder Miho left the band for personal reasons and it went into a hiatus which lasted until the end of 2022. In the fall of 2022 they found a young fantastic bass player and in 2023 they released a new LP. The new LP reached the 5th place in the Japanese charts. Japan is the 2nd largest music market in the world and it is very rare that in these times a rock band comes so far forward.

lovebites are one of the best bands around. founded in 2016, they played in the UK 2017 already. in 2018 they won the prestigeous metal hammer golden god best newcomers award, played wacken and toured in europe. this is their 2020 tokyo opener, I believe. they´ve just released a version of THOW from their March 2023 show after a two years hiatus and with new bassplayer on their channel: czcams.com/video/pHrWRT0Jeac/video.html with cc. singer asami sings in english. midori (the blonde) plays through a kemper profiler) with an ESP E II horizon FR with seymour duncans. the dark haired miyako, who also plays the piano on pro level, uses a dean icon with fishman fluence PUs and ovaltone capacitators, a peavey 6505+ and an orange cabinet. do not pause during a solo! 😁
Like Wolfpack already have pointed out, two guitars don't sound similar. Both guitars and all the hardware, and settings are totally different from each other. The reason they have many picks on their microphone stands is they throw picks to the audience at the end of the concert. Even the bassist does it too although she plucks with her fingers and never use a pick.
He wouldn't realize why guitarists have so may oicks. He's never been around any musicians.
A couple of tips:
1. Maybe get your hearing checked because Asami sings in English. 😂 Only one song was recorded in both English / Japanese - Bravehearted.
2. Guitar tones are different. I think this is one of the few songs they may sound similar. Typically, they do completely different solos then come together and harmonize - would say that's their trademark and NO ONE does it better.
3. There's a much newer version of this song on their YT channel. From their 1st live show (Mar '23) in 2 years. It features new bassist Fami (1st live show w/band), and she kills it. Miho is original bassist / co-founder of band, in this video.
4. Best band in metal period.

The sound of the guitars are completely different. You are not used to the perfect synchrony of the best guitar duo today, Midori and Miyako.

this is one song where the guitars do have similar sounds and effects. in most other songs they sound distinctly different with miyako and midori showing off their different styles of play. one song you need to listen to that highlights their styles is called 'break the wall' - one of their thrash numbers with dark haired guitarist miyako using a les paul instead of her usual dean. there is a live version on youtube from zepp diver city tokyo in 2020 that you will absolutely love. one of their best songs - but then again all 60 of their self written songs are top level
All Lovebites songs are written and performed in English. *Asami* (vocals) had a thicker accent in 2020, her vocals are much clearer now. The mixing was done in Finland by the same people that do Nightwish, and the sound for the whole concert is Awesome. *Midori* (blond guitar) plays an ESP through a Kemper modeler. *Miyako* (guitar, piano, keyboards) plays a Dean through a Peavy 6505 into a mic'd Orange cab. *Miho* ( original bassist) plays through a Darkglass. This is from the last concert before they took a year off and got a new Bassist, Fami. You should check out Hammer of Wrath from Knocking at Heaven's Gate that was done in March. Best performance yet by the band.

Very few pauses .... There should be pauses every 10 seconds. As for guitar solos and bass solos, pauses should be every 3 seconds. Seriously though, you didn't give yourself the opportunity to enjoy a great song from a phenomenal band.🤗
The mixing and mastering of the DVD/Blue-ray of this concert ( 2020) was done by Mikko Karmila and Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios (Helsinki, Finland). They have been mixing and mastering all LOVEBITES albums since the first 'The Lovebites EP'(2017). Mikko Karmila and Mika Jussila have worked on albums by such bands as STRATOVARIUS, CHILDREN OF BODOM, NIGHTWISH, SONATA ARCTICA, THERION, AMORPHIS ect.
He's not familiar with Mikko and Mika. They're real engineers.

They are from Japan, but sing in English. Asami has a thick Japanese accent, and paired with her often heavy vibrato, she can be very hard to understand, especially on songs where the vocals are fast-paced. She's a lot easier to understand on slower vocal passages, and as Patrick noted, she has gotten better an enunciating English in recent years. Interestingly, I've seen interviews with her from around this same time, and her spoken English is a lot better than her sung English. She also lived in California for a couple years while she was studying dance.

Her voice doesen´t loose a percent during a 2 hour show. That´s why she is called "The One and Only Voice"

Pity you didn’t react to the very recently released version of this song - much tighter version. And has the new bass player. She’s singing in English. Lovebites have some of the best live recordings going back to early days. Their guitars sound clean because they are so damn tight. Midori is using a Kemper so the record feed is likely direct, while Miyako (right) uses a Peavey 6505+ and a very clean pedal board. Both are top tier players and some of the best harmony players. They also have pretty different eq approaches. I’m guessing your not so familiar with metal guitar? Or maybe your just not as good as you think…?
I find this version way tighter than the new one. Don't get me wrong, the new version is fantastic but this is much tighter in every respect.
@@guitarzen5999 They are different. I like them both and have no preference, except that newer is newer. The new one has a different mix. The drums are way higher. And the guitars are lower. The audience sound and room reverb is also much higher in the new one. Then, one of the differences is different bass players.
@@rolandkarlsson7072Agree, the new version felt more powerful. The other version was tighter to me because the band had played the song on their tours and had not been off for 2 years. Now as far as the bass goes, Fami did a great job but Miho's tone was better. Fami's tone was maybe a bit too bassy and it made her solo runs kind of muddy and hard to hear.
@@guitarzen5999 Fami like a more gritty tone, more metallic that is nice for slapping. Miho had a more deep and bassy tone, nice for finger picking. I also prefer Miho's tone. But, listen to the ending. Very deep and nice tone from Fami there. It is a matter how you pick or slap. I think we are VERY good off with Fami. There are cons and pros with everything.

Lol, you sort of did the wrong version of this song. They literally this week released a new version with the new base player for their upcoming blue ray concert release. It's very similar. But no long intro and the new base player.

Midori's guitar (blond to the left) has a brighter sound than Miyako's (brunette to the right) guitar. I am no expert on this but I also know that Midori has some kind of standard amp but Miyako has a modelling amp that can simulate sounds from any guitar.

I can tell you, not being English speaker, that Asami's singing is quite hard to understand. I need subtitles. But, of course, I hear that she sings in English.

For me as a not native english speaking fan Asami’s accent is not relevant at all.
And who can claim the „true“ english pronunciation one‘s own. Maybe a few million people living in Oxford area, that‘s how it is taught here in Germany 😉

It's time to let go of the stereotypical heavy metal clothing of chains and leather and studs and nasty looking guys, it's time that looks no longer matter but the art of good music played with professionalism and heavy metal class that matters. Those ladies are sooooooooooooo fucking heavy power metal..they just amazing and so good to listen at.
If you stop the guitar solo in the middle, the composition will be ruined. Harmony is an important feature of Love Bites.
