Removing the transmission is difficult and dangerous. Never put yourself under it. Soon I should publish the part where I remove the transmission. Thanks
I don't think it's worth writhing under the transmission to take them apart, when it's very easy to unscrew that hatch. However, it did not seem to me that a wrench could get in from under it and be able to make enough strength. Especially when you put it back to make sure you have it tight.
these were excellent vdeos, about to remove the bolts from the trans to the case in a 98, not sure if this has the access panel to the top bolts, but i guess we will see, also, the dialouge was perfect.

How to remove the bolts that connect the transmission to the transfer case is a fairly debated topic, before removing the panel I took a look, it did not seem to me that there was space. However, I don't think it's worth writhing under the transmission to take them apart, when it's very easy to unscrew that hatch.
@@UnauThorizedMechanic i got it out from underneath, had a ratchet with the head that pivots either direction, it was easy to do after locking the ratchet in a position that took advantage of whatever space it could. A normal straight necked ratchet or wrench could work but my God I bet that would suck. Moving on,, The guts in my case were exploded and the case took a fair amount of damage in the ring where the big bearing sits in just under the planetary, on the input side. I washed it all out and it appears that I may be better off just reassembling without the 4wd bits as the forks were annihilated and there was a variety of metal and plastic pieces, whole and in shavings. I think I can get away with it if I can find a spring to pin that main shift gear into the planetary gear so to avoid it slipping out and engaging the low torque plane of the planetary. I think I can let the magnetic ring bit on the output end go whichever way, if I leave the chain out it won't be able to engage and Bobo broken 4wd bits. That big chain gear in the output line doesn't seem to affect anything in the drive line whether its engaged or not. Ripped the wires off my speedo, so that's a bummer. I was thinking about recording the process for CZcams if this actually succeeds in getting me rolling again. 98 f150 4r70w trans and bw 4406 case. Apologies for the wall of text.
In practice, little was saved from the catastrophic failure suffered by the transfer case. Do you have an idea why this happened? Lack of transmission fluid?
@@UnauThorizedMechanic yes, zero fluid, only a gooey artifact of its existence was splattered around the lower resting part. It had been that way for a while, I've rarely used 4wd and hadn't bothered with the case in 3 years.. so when it began to noticeably fail it went quickly

use the air tool more.

It is the upper bolts that connect the transfer case to the transmission. What broke in half?
