As a scale-oriented guitar player, this concept turned into a new endless world on my journey of self discovering.. loving it
Same here a long time ago
I would like to second that as I am speechless at how amazing this is
Thank you very much indeed. This is my main comping technique. Ask yourself which major or minor chords fit on top of an F7 (LH: F/A/Eb). I suggest B minor or major, Ab minor or major, C minor, D minor or major, etc.
I absolutely love this channel! Whenever I see a video from JazzDuets I start playing and trying stuff out. A great inspirational and educational effort. This is the kind of content that makes CZcams so precious. Thank you very much for this.
Altered "Ditto" w/ a Raised 13th
(A rank beginner faking it Aeolian style) 😎 👏 👏 👏
Beautifully and calmly drescribed and demonstrated . . . makes a nice change from some of the other vids I've watched . . . Thank you.
This is just totally amazing to finally come across this at such a late stage in my guitar playing life. I cannot thank you enough, there are no words to express my gratitude.
Been working on triad pairs for a while. I really like that you try to describe some of the different combos. For me, trying to fit them into a standard without a static harmony place is challenging.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful material! They have been really inspirational to me over these last months :D
Un trampolín al conocimiento!!! Gracias Nick!!! Hermoso video!!!
🎼Riders on the Storm 🎶🎵
Such a clear explanation with good examples. Also, props for doing examples in a minor key. Thank you!
Very good choice of painter ! It is all about emotions and subjective as impressions !
Outstanding. Your students are very fortunate to have you as their guide through this amazing journey that we call music. Much love and respect to you! 😀
Love this lesson. Great teaching style thanks!
Your post came up as a recommended for me based on what I’ve been viewing I’ve also started improvising work on my own take care
Thank you very much. I learned this lovely method , I play it with clarinet
Love it, learnt a lot. Thank you so much🙏💓
That is a really good lesson! Thank you!
Hi! The Satie's scale is also used by Allan Holdsworth. I believe he would think of it as a melodic minor with a sharp 4th. There's a whole section based on that scale on "Letters of Marque", over an E pedal.
Wow, I've never seen your face before - great to put a face to all the awesome content you put out 🔥🔥 stay strong 💪 stay blessed 🙏
Love that Satie thing going on....
Muito legal! Parabéns e obrigado!
Please continue the part 3 of Mr.Stevie Wonder's "You and I". I've been waiting for it for so long.
Thank you very much 🙇
Sos el mejor...
From the last video, I thought that it had to do with the implied mode given by adjacent chords, but I noticed that sometimes the drone would either contradict the chord-scale or directly contradict a chord (like a I-II/i; I and i couldn't belong to the same scale). I was thinking maybe they could imply something like h-W/W-h diminished, but that'd mean there'd be no major chords.
Genial Master...!!! Vamos a calentar la pava y a darle a las tríadas...!!! No nos decís que boquilla usás en ese maravilloso soprano..??? Saludos desde Bariloche...!!!
beautiful thank you :)
To see an impressionist painting in a jazz video feels anti-nature, but, in a way, reveals a different view of the paintings.
Fm and Gmaj traids sounds over Cm was sick omw to the workshop haha
Saludos mr. Nick!.
Hey please let us know when the bass clef version of the thesaurus drops. thanks alot for the info.
Awesome video thanks for sharing. Do you have a book on this concept?
Top!!!
Hi, i really like your setup. Are these triads also written for alto sax?
otimo amigo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you give some examples of triad pairs on jazz tunes?
I've been pretty much a life long guitar player and only now learning to read notes. Chord charts were never a problem but learning to read notes are a totally new challenge. That said, I can't help wonder if your music staff (at 6:50 min) is missing a note. Maybe an F#?
I absolutely love your lessons! Much mahalo!
Superbe
Very informative video ...what is the chord playing thru the whole video (in the background)?
C minor
If you think about it scales and chords are on and the same. Just a different expression but the same mechanisms. These triad pairs could be looked at fragments of chord/scale played over a differing chord/scale. Right?
I absolutely love your lessons but as a guitarist who doesn't necessarily like learning from guitarist .. so I have to overcome my dependence on tablature, because the time it takes me to figure the notes out is crazy when I know I could just sight read the tabs...
Triad pairs are fun to experiment with and use over a one chord vamp but what about over standard jazz changes in which no chord typically is played for more than one measure? Do you have time to use triad pairs in that context? I ask because I would like to make use of them over changes but presently I am only hearing them as useful when a chord lasts two measures or more.
One way to start is just pick a pair that contain all in-key notes -- say, Dm and Em, basically ii and iii in C. Those two triads spell a rootless C scale, and will work anywhere you play that scale or any of its modes. Or parallel "IV-V" major triads, those are scale-tones-only too. Or I II majors makes it lydian, by raising the third in the II. Play around with those pairs straight through some ii-V-I's in C, just treating the notes as scale tones, and see how it sounds. I still sound like, when I'm playing with triad pairs, like I'm ... playing with triad pairs. I hear the same thing with a lot of players. I'll keep at it though.
I have various videos dealing with this. If you google " jazzduets blue bossa" you will see at least 4 videos. I am making more on different tunes
Can you make a jazz theory analysis for Clair de lune, like you did for „la fille aux cheveux de lin“?:)
Seconded. That would be amazing!
I have purchased 3 of your courses and have opened up my creativity. Thanks
Am I right to assume that some of the triads don’t necessarily have to be part of the diatonic scale of the root?
It's OK to have some non-diatonic triads as it adds to the color and makes it more interesting.
Thanks! The triads don’thave to be part of the diatonic scale, for instance C minor and D major triads over C minor
@@JazzDuets thanks for replying to this. My knowledge of a music theory is not very good, but I was wondering how come C minor and D minor triads fit C minor diatonic scale, but now I think I got it
Could you explain more about how you decided that "Thesaurus" is the proper title for this information?
That makes me laugh , your use of the word "proper" If you saw the contents of the book you would understand
Cool. But why call the Cmin, Bbmaj pair an aeolian sound when the A/Ab is omitted? The whole point of that pair is that it’s ambiguous between Aeolian and Dorian, right?
I am not sure if the whole point of the pair is that it is ambiguous. The point of the pair for me is that it evokes a Tender, Solemn, Beautiful soundscape/feeling in the player and listener
This is great stuff. The only question I have is that if C minor is the relative minor of Eb major, then the F Major example should have an Ab not A natural. Or in other words, if Eb is the parent major key, then F should be minor. Looks like I'll have to buy the course.....
My question is exactly the same, and also for D minor, if C minor is the relative Eb major, then the D minor example should have and Ab not A natural.....
Boa noite.
Ah; esqueci de me apresentar; o meu nome é João Viana. Vivo em BH, Minas Gerais; Brasil.
How do you select the triad to pair in your examples? You are using 3-b, so it is "e-flat major" scale or "c minor" scale - then you are using G-chord and F-chord for your example (time 3:00) - but there is no G-chord or F-Chord in this scale, why are you selecting these chords instead of Gm-chord or Fm-chord?
Is there a hard copy available?
Yes! Try my videocourse jazzduets.com/pages/thesaurus-compendium where you can also print the class PDF's for your home study!
@@JazzDuets The Jazz duet page locks you out and won't let you contact anyone. This website has been a hassle.
@@JazzDuets Also, the course is brilliant and opens up a melodic and rhythmic way to explore musical textures. Thank you.
Sounds nice, but classical??
Jazz duet?? Sounds like Nike’s slogan
Watching long videos for extracting what you can grasp in One tenth of the time by reading? Not to mention having to scroll back and forth using a flärd interface instead of your eyes? Not what i call the future of learning. I encountered the same sales pitches for video courses decades ago and they still suck. A pity you choose to package your otherwise excellent material that way
