  • I was curious just how fast the new 2022 Kawaski KLR would go, so I did a speed test on a desolate highway in Nevada to find out.
    Thanks for watching!

    A long time ago my dad told me that direction is more important than speed ,cause you can go fast in the wrong direction .Nimbleness is a far greater asset . I'm still not sure if he was talking about motorcycles or life . But it holds true for both.Cheers my friend .

    I’ve done 95 on my ‘22 KLR with nothing added except what comes on the adventure model with the bags off, windscreen in the lower position and I was tucked and close to the tank, she might have had a bit more in her but I ran up on a statie. Good to know it will still move pretty well with gear. Great footage, stay save out there

    All you need is 88. Top speed limit in U.S. is 80 and that extra 8 mph can be used for passing. Majority of the speed limits top out at 70 mph.

      Yeah but let's be real, in a 80 mph zone, everyone is doing 85 mph minimum. Also you don't want to be driving for extended periods of time with the engine completely wrapped out. 85 mph would be a nice cruise speed if the bike could do 105 top speed.

    Sure miss my Old bike the KLR 500 (Not KLE 500).. looked around in CZcams and decided to check out this page, I'm 6ft (183cm) & back then when my weight was 98kgs (216lbs) easily did 105mph (170km/h) on RON98 fuel. I suppose the new generation bike has some kind of digital speed limiter? I was easily doing 0-100km/h in under 5.5 seconds, not sure why some reviews I've read said the bike has bad Torque in low RPMs? Mine felt just fine. Always maintained my bike tip top condition, Eventually changed to a Sports bike (Honda CBR 600F2). Whoa... I was doing 250km/h on that without even maxing out the throttle. Sadly, Bike got stolen! Now getting old & relocated to another country... life is precious, I'm just riding a 200cc moped hahaha. There is no road to run here & National speed limit is 90 km/h. Always stay safe Brudders!

    I have a 2022 KLR650 Adventure set up with the top box also and weigh 260 pounds. Same results for indicated top speed. However using GPS on garmin zumo and at same time on iPhone XR shows a 7% error on Kawasaki's speedometer at most speeds so 88 is actually about 82 mph.

    Thanks for sharing. Looks like you also had a top box? Those bags are like strapping on bricks. Even more powerful bikes will need a lot of power to overcome the aerodynamic drag. Do it again without the bags and the top box. Inquiry minds want to know. You're in SoCal so doing 90+ shouldn't get you in trouble out there in the desert where everyone cruises at least 85!

    It would be interesting to know the top speed for day long comfort. Also, the KLR speedometer shows speeds about 5mph too high at those speeds. Ie, 88mph is probably 82mph. It seems that it is still appropriate to adjust gearing on the KLR according to use; ie, go to a 14t if more off-road, a 16t if more on-road, or keep the 15t if 50/50. Probably should match the type of tires you use.

    • @JP1970
      @JP1970  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh heck yeah...good idea...I find the bike like to cruise best between 65-74 down the freeway. I have no pland right now of changing the gearing. Seems fine. I appreciate you telling me about the speedo.
