1. This is a performance on a t.v. show. Performances on broadcast television have for over 40 years used backing tracks and suites of effects to replicate the studio recording as much as possible. This isn't due to lack of talent from the performers, it's a marketing play to get people to consume the music more.
2. Every performer for the last 30 years has used "Auto-Tune" (here having the meaning of any software that does pitch correction). Live, Studio recording, any time. They all do it. Again, it has little to do with the actual talent of the artist and everything to do with wanting to put forth the cleanest sounding product so more people will consume it. It's simply another tool in the tool box, though like any it can be abused and overused.
