    There should've been MUCH MORE focus on what was earth's condition in the movie, because if the goal was to mind unobtanium as an energy resource to save the earth, they shouldn't have made it look like it was just about making money.

      You missed the entire point of the whole movie. This is the world late stage capitalism brings and if we want to save the world we need to change ourselves and our needs. The Navi lived in their means and look how their world evolved. BTW Parker literally said they prioritized profits over Navi lives in the film and it's not like they need unobtanium to survive. They need it to keep driving the mass consumer culture rather than down sizing it and suffering low profits for the 1% This is where the real world is headed. Stop sympathizing with a world made by men who wish to control every aspect of it only to turn you into a dollar sign in the end.

    Seeing as how most of life on earth has wiped out in Avatar, I think that it would be safe to assume that it also could include common animals that live in our time, which we depend on as food. I do wonder could have happened to more successful and common animals, such as livestock and pets. Did climate change also have an effect on earth in Avatar?

    • @someanimeguy4722
      @someanimeguy4722 Před rokem +5

      I also wonder what other foods feed the population. While they eat algae, why don’t they also eat insects and lab-grown meat? Those foods are going to become more common in the future. I also wonder what the livestock industry is like in the year 2154. Another question is inside the cities are there cars? I know there are monorails and a lot of public transportation, but I don’t see any cars in the earth opening sequence of avatar.

      @robinsonray6766 Před rokem +1

      Supposedly wild life was depleted but it doesn't say that about domesticated life and i doubt that pets were affected. One thing to keep in mind, live stock produces a massive amount of co2 gas, FAR more than our current cars. If future earth is trying to diminish global warming to stay alive and prevent earth from becoming Venus, they may have banned livestock. The algae people are eating is actually a new method which exists today and is believed to help lower green house gasses because the algae suck up green house gasses. You can then burry the high co2 poop.
      During the carboniferous, the mighty carboniferous forests did this. They sucked up CO2 and they're bark was so tough that bacteria couldn't decompose it so trees would die and just fall, with others growing above. CO2 was being trapped for millions of years leading to low co2 high oxygen atmosphere which allowed for giant insects to evolve.
      For reasons not fully understood the mighty carboniferous forests collapsed, probably from either climate change OR the carboniferous forests own success, sucking nutrients out of the soil but not decomposing, thus not allowing new plants to tap into said nutrients.
      Extreme global warming ensued in what we call the permian where mammals dominated most niches. The permian extinction ensued, called the great dying, the greatest mass extinction ever. Rivers flowed unhinged with extreme erosion telling us plants all together almost went extinct.
      The triassic ensued in a high carbon low oxygen environment and the mighty archosaurs [and later dinosaurs] took over.

The entire globe was consumed by a desert during the great dying and the oxygen levels in the atmosphere were too low for you or me to live in, that is why the archosaurs [crocs, birds, dinosaurs] took over. Reality is the reason the population is increasing at the moment is because we are living longer. However we are about to reach a breaking point where the population will steady out as birth rates steady out and age increase keeps going up. Soon people will only end up having 2 children at most and that will be the point when we might even see a population decrease. I’m talking in 50 years or so we could see this population steady at around 8 or 9 billion before decreasing again in our lifetimes!

    I simpely LOVED Avatar and I cannot understand all the hate.
    This story has been told before yes, but a story that is being told ten times with good quality isn't a bad story, and maybe James Cameron wanted to say that this is what's going to happen if we find intelligent life out in space, maybe it's the fact that it is a well and true story that people will like considering they have liked it before. Think of movie remakes, why do we remake movies? It is so that we can show stories again, maybe with updated effects, maybe with better writing or maybe because the acting standard has been upped from what it was previously.
    Look at Ben-Hur, movie from 1925 was a silent film, the -59 film was a bigger production because the movie industry grew and we could have sound, now we are remaking it again. Why? Maybe because there aren't many great epics anymore at the caliber of Lawrence of Arabia, with possibly the last one being LOTR trilogy.
    Avatar told an old story with new technology so we could enjoy the same story we always did enjoy only with more spectacle, nothing wrong with that, if telling a story over again is so looked down upon, how on earth do we continue to adapt book after book after book instead of just writing new stories for our movies?
    Can't wait to see more of Pandora's story.

    The apocalyptic view is overblown. Human population will not increase in such a way because the trends show otherwise. As more regions become more developed, deaths will drop while births stay the same for a short while and then they too will drop off. At some point they will reach an equilibrium. The reverse is actually becoming a problem in the developed nations where the average age of the citizen is going up (this is a problem in Japan for example) and the births are going down, with the population in general declining (parts of Europe).
    The entire concept of what Earth is in Avatar is every dated worst case scenario rolled into one. Steps are being taken, even if slowly. Progress is being made.

    No I don't, simply put we as a nation might not be doing much to combat global warming pollution and other events that will terraform Earth. Yet other nations are moving towards a better life. Also lets face it, global warming is bringing back a lot of extinct or thought to be extinct diseases that will render a good portion of the population extinct leaving those in more developed countries to claim what areas they want. I hope that doesn't happen but it just might. Disease happens to be that one factor always overlooked, due to the fact that if this reality in the film came to pass, here is a question for people. Why are there so many? If food is a problem, air, disease, war, etc.. continuing to pledge us how is that we as a species are still able to function with such a high degree? Also resource depletion has always been a fear, recycling was started because of this fear. So all in all I have never liked Avatar only because science took a seat in the back of the bus. Reasons are for this film to have some sense of reality, why would we just want the resources when we could just engineer humans to live on this planet and take it over from the native species? If you've got the ability to gene splice two completely different species then why can't you just design people to live on this planet without masks? Or how is it that with so many people that we just don't recycle the bodies and use them as a means of replenishing the environment and the soil with growing new forests? Just simple fixes with such a technologically superior us doesn't excuse the poor judgement that has seemed to pledge both Cameron and Scott films in the realm of Sci-fi.

    It's difficult to respond to the Doom and Gloom in this analysis. Anybody who's been looking at population projections will see Humanity losing and as much as half of its population in 100 years because of the incredibly low birth rate as the population becomes urbanized. As for the assumption that Earth could mount expeditions to other planets using sublight spacecraft as Earth described by this commentary are difficult to believe. After all, it's a massive undertaking. And there's no unantanium to be had at this point. And if you could build these massive spaceships why not make L5 colonies and dump the population in them and have Earth-like worlds that you could create? Earth right now has never been more educated, more healthy, more prosperous, and frankly heading for more democracy across the globe than ever before. Mankind is always been able to overcome technical questions like energy and pollution and there's no expectation that they won't do it now. I know doomsday predictions are popular but let's be honest, we're going to have a nice future. And oh yeah if I was the company why don't you just drop an asteroid on Pandora and collapse the entire ecosystem and do whatever you want with the planet, you could terraform it into a nice Earth world. After all it's orbiting a giant Jupiter world where we already know asteroids constantly are crashing into the moons. Why this wasn't already happened is behind me. Also who's to say it wasn't just an accident if the company did it? Basically the more you think about it the more incredible the entire plot is. And by the way why do the Pandora's look nothing like the native life forms? There's no way they could have evolved on that planet.

    As things are progressing, I'd say a hundred years is optimistic, 50 is a good conservative estimate.

      Yeah. since world population will peak at about 10.9 billion and start to fall these kind of events portrayed will not happen, and the amount of resources asteroids have it would be no problem for countries with space capabilities in the future. politicians dont need to do anything to save the earth and they would not even try, entrepenuers are already leading the global effort to stabilize our environment, u know whats better, that the amount of progress we are having to reach twards that goal is more than expected.
      The media only repots on the bad news to feed on your fear. Politicians exagerate it to get votes
