    Hi Dilby, great video! A question: Where you do down with the treshhold by -3 to reach the LUFS value of -8, I have to adjust the threshold by -8. Do you know, what the reason could be for it? (My FreeG is at +6 and not 7 btw)

    • @dilbydj
      @dilbydj  Před měsícem +1

      Not too sure without looking at it. There could be a bunch of factors, but it's probably to do with the volume of the kick and bass. Check out my video on mixing kick and bass.

    Thanks for sharing your approach , the clipper played a very nice role in the chain.
    Sometimes masterings for club ready tunes will clip in digital red ! If you play the WAV file in daw, crazy stuff happening in electronic scene! What’s that technic called dylan?

    • @dilbydj
      @dilbydj  Před 2 lety +1

      Actually, I think it is something that happens with mp3 files. If you export a WAV file it won't be able to go above 0db. But then you convert that to mp3 and it is pushed over, I'm not sure why. I could be wrong but that's my understanding.

    Excellent content mate! I noticed you have dither off on the limiter. Do you use dither when DIY mastering like that? If yes, are you using Ableton's one when exporting or the limiter's one? Thanks, love your vids!

  • @federicocamaglia4390

    Great content. I usually use fab filter pro L and set a cealing of -1Db, is that correct/nexessary ?

    • @dilbydj
      @dilbydj  Před 5 měsíci

      I don't think you need a ceiling of -1db I think -.1db would be enough.

  • @damonperez5541
    @damonperez5541 Před 2 lety +2

    do you keep the gain plugin on or turn it off for the final master

    • @dilbydj
      @dilbydj  Před 2 lety +3

      Keep it on. If someone else is doing the masters then I will turn off the whole chain. Turning off the gain means the premaster will be - 7db so plenty of headroom for the mastering engineer.

  • @timb2597
    @timb2597 Před 2 lety +2

    I dont understand when is the moment that you go from your -6db mixdown track (i suppose) to the standard lvl of loudness ? Do you start directly at 0db your mixdown and make this chain ?

    • @dilbydj
      @dilbydj  Před 2 lety

      I have the gain plugin on all the time. This adds 7db. So I work to 0db on the output, but this first passes through the gain plugin. So if I turn off the gain plugin (and any limiting etc) I instantly have an extra 7db of headroom. 0db minus 7db equals -7db.

    THANK YOU DILBY. Any suggestion for a good studio headphones?

    • @dilbydj
      @dilbydj  Před 2 lety +2

      The headphones I use are Sennhiser hd650. I have also used the Beyer Dynamic DT headphones which are good and quite a bit cheaper. If you get the DT's They have open back, semi-open, and closed back versions. You will get better sound with the open back, but they let in more noise so depending on what you are using them for and where you are using them you might have to sacrifice some fidelity for noise blocking.
      Those are the only ones I really have experience with other than my HD25 DJ headphones, which are fine for tracking vocals etc, but not very accurate for production.

    What do you think of using limiting/cliping in groups before doing that to the whole track ?

    • @dilbydj
      @dilbydj  Před 2 lety +1

      It can be a good tool for sure.
      I don't do things like that as a rule. I use it as a tool to solve problems.
