- Today the long awaited second episode of the digital circus came out. I’ll give my thoughts on it.
Overall i thought the episode was great and helped to explain alot of the shows lore and worldbuilding. The cast was fantastic, with jax and pomni stealing the show.
The side characters introduced were all quite unique, with my two favourites being the candy princess and the fudge monster.
The episode was also a lot slower paced than the pilot, providing some more emotional and somber moments.
There were some issues that i had with it unfortunately. I felt like the pacing was a little off, with the start and end of the episode being extremely fast, while the middle part slowed to a crawl.
The end part would’ve been better if we had actually heard the cast talk about kaufmo, or perhaps flashbacks of him actually speaking. It felt a bit rushed.
The run time was the main culprit of these problems. There just wasn’t enough time to get to know anyone in the candy kingdom, so when gummi gu died at the end, his death didn’t hit as much as it could have, and the candy princess was underutilised.

This episode 2 gives more emphasis on the "AI" parts and how in reality all of this show really is just a stimulation. There's no emotions, friends, love, or anything, it's all fake, and Pomni thought she met someone she could relate to.
I thought ep.2 was supposed to be the origin of Jax or something.

I dunno, everyone seems pretty upset about gummigoo. I was too. You got just enough of him to care. You don’t have to know EVERYTHING about a character to care about them. Some people feel you need to know their history, their development, their future, ancestry, and blood type before they consider even liking a character. Sometimes you need to take them for what they were:
A guy who was a bandit, stealing maple syrup, that may cure his ill mum, finds out it’s all a lie, finds comfort in someone who can relate and welcomes him to a new home and life.
Then he dyed suddenly.
This! You got it on the nail.
Not everyone needs more information to like a character. Heck, people were favoring the characters just from the pilot. Gummygoo is a character that immediately got sympathy and people got attached to him. Let's be honest, many of us had those moments of, "What is my purpose?" And existential crisis. So for them, Gummygoo kinda hit close to home and when Cain snapped him away...it snapped us as well. RIP Gummygoo
FOR REAL, I was so cherry! I was thinking about Gummi's future with the rest of the main cast, how I couldn't wait to see his relationship with Pomni evolve and everything! Then he got snapped into confetti and I stared at the screen for 5 minutes straight looking like 😦
I think him dying so suddenly works well with the story’s narrative. Pomni was just genuinely trying to help an NPC whose reality has been completely shattered and maybe try to befriend them or make them more than what they’re supposed to be. But before she could get to know more about him, before WE could get to know more about him, he vanishes. Just like that. Because in this world, he was made to just be an NPC and that’s that.
It feels unfair and it’s very much intentional that it feels like an unfair, very abrupt death. (If he even dies anyway.) which is why his death worked for many people along with his existential crisis. I can understand why some may not really feel for his death but personally I think it still means something. Like it wasn’t just there for pure shock value.
To what color did he got dyed to?

I just finished watching the episode and I was literally so close to fully bursting into tears after he died. I’m still emotionally devastated. My poor little baby, he deserved better.

I ended up crying a lot through the whole episode. It was so much that my eyes were a bit red afterwards.
I got so upset I was excited for them to join and then just for them to be snapped away

I like the pacing personally. I felt like the candy princess was unimportant enough to skim past, having very unremarkable dialog because shes just kinda there as part of Cane's LARP haha, and his LARP itself wasn't actually that important. Like the "problem" of the episode wasn't actually to save the candy kingdom. It's just what the characters where told to focus on. The gator being sort of in and out makes sense to me to, since we got to see his world, and his world break. And then the connection he and Pomni made, that helped Pomni think through things from a 3rd person perspective- The real loss when he 🎉 was more the friendship and just a little bit of his character. He was hopeful for the belonging that Pomni got in the end, and thats whats sad I think. Kaufmo's funeral being quick and kaufmo-less seems more to help Pomni wrap up the last of her problem. She realizes that she's there with the rest of the crew, and they would care if she abstracted. Showing kaufmo could have taken away from that main point of the scene.
TL:DR- The important things weren't really that rushed, and the things that are rushed just shows how not-too-important the literal scene is to the actual focus of the episode.
Pilot: Ragatha amazing.

It might still be. Remember, psychopaths do use violence as a coping mechanism/outlet for their frustration.
I think it _is_ a coping mechanism. But unlike the popular belief I think Jax _knows_ he's being an a-hole. He's aware he's a jerk. So no justice either way.
I do believe we'll see Jax on his soft side and changing a bit, but please it's the second episode. Of course he's going to be a jerk for a lot more episodes
Ragatha said that Gummigoo might be in another adventure, so I don't think he died. He might come back in a future episode

Personally, I think Gummgu’s death made me go, “what the fuck? 💀” because I felt like they built it up so much like he was gonna me a prominent character, only for him NOT to be. Pomni should’ve asked him to leave with her just as they were about to leave
Yeah I get THAT part was clearly intentional, but there was so much setup with no follow through. Jax get no repercussions for letting the sludge monster into the kingdom? The princess isn’t important? Jax is an asshole throughout and no one really comments on it? It’s just odd. But maybe we;re supposed to feel that way bc Jax felt unsatisfied with the adventure like I did, and Pomni was shocked at Gummygoo getting thanos snapped. And Gooseworx said Jax is just an asshole and gets worse makes me want to see more of him bc I liked him in the pilot and now that they toned down his comedy aspect he’s just a bigger dick 💀

I enjoyed the episode and I think they did a great job, it's a shame Gummigoo died but at least he had a change of heart because of Pomni. Plus it's nice to see Jax and Zooble can feel a little sad too especially during the funeral scene and the scene where Jax is a little disappointed about this whole adventure being a little boring. Also I love that Ayy Lmao played the music from the Pilot during the ending as well while he's explaining some stuff.

Ironically, I don't think the kaufmo's funeral scene was actually about kaufmo. I think it was more about pomni's relationship with the other characters. So then talking about kaufmo would've just butted into that

I disagree with the kaufmo criticism i think it would have felt extremely hollow and trying too hard to make us cry if they had a long scene of everyone talking about him, a character we didnt know or care about. It would have felt hollow and really missed the point of the scene, being that it shows they care about the others here and care about Pomni, which is what shes worried about.

Kaufmo’s funeral wasn’t to hear about him or to get to know him. It doesn’t matter what they say about him. What matters is that Pomni realizes that she won’t be forgotten by her new friends if the worst happens. She can relax a bit and is happy to know that all the characters (aside from Jax) had really strong emotions towards their lost friend, and that she doesn’t have to be alone here in her new world.
“On par with the pilot” - you know, meeting the standard of quality for the animated work that completely took the internet by storm. I dunno what a perfect episode of anything would look like, everything has flaws, but let’s just say this episode definitely fit the bill and I’m very hungry for more.
Is no one gonna talk about how fast this guy uploaded after the pilot?

yea the part where the characters talk about their fallen friend.. was an missed opportunity in my mind.. it would been more emotional if we heard what they said and would made it more immersive. the episode was great. but it did have missed opportunities like the funeral scene

I’m so glad someone else agrees. It was a good episode and there’s nothing wrong with having critiques! I do feel like a lot of pressure was put on releasing the episode quickly, which is honestly too bad. I’m glad we got some small character building, but not much more. maybe the next episode will be an improvement.

I personally don't feel like any of the characters that weren't utilized or given depth as a bad thing. They are side characters for a reason, and if they are to be reintroduced, giving them more depth later on is the smarter option, rather than giving you too much information about them, ultimately making them a tad more boring later on as there is nothing that we can know more about. Remember, this is the second episode: details and stories aren't going to be utilized and given all right away

I would disagree with the Kaufmo part, while it would’ve been nice to see more of the character and hear what the others thought of him, I think the silence emphasized that everyone does care about each other and had something nice to say despite badmouthing him in the previous episode, highlighting Pomni’s realization that she had people who would care about her in the Circus and whom she could rely on. I think that was a more important takeaway than the others’ actual opinions/memories of Kaufmo (I’d definitely like to see more of him in side content if we can, but part of him being a “faceless” reminder of the threat of abstraction is also very powerful too)

Gumigoos death honestly hit hard especially since it covers npcs being throw away characters and the connection between pomni and gummigoo was the main focus. the "underutilization" and not knowing the characters was intentional as that is exactly what is being shown. A one use world with characters meant to be thrown away after use with potential use later. The character development is really meant to be on pomni so kaufmo's funeral was meant to show that most of the crew does care about pomni not really show the connection to kaufmo

The only thing i would say is we did get to see a little more emotion from the cast(zooble kys you were gone the whole time)

Something I’ve noticed is in both episodes kinger just randomly has these moments of wisdom first was him explaining how the digital world works too jax and the other was him talking about how the transition can be very hard too ragitha but then he goes back to being all crazy wacky and weird almost like it’s an act what’s also weird is he is the one who has been in the circus longest and had queener most likely his wife abstract so I don’t know how but it’s clear he might have a way too resist abstraction
There was already a plot hole when Ragatha said that you can’t really sleep in the circus but that’s literally the first thing we saw
Not really a plot hole, Ragatha said they don't need sleep, not that they can't. They can still sleep, they just don't need to.

Fun fact, so far when it comes to design changes on the characters I only seen zoobles change be it she has a black and white square instead of an orange loop on her chest a different antenna, I Believe different type of arms, a thicker head, bigger pupils, and a stick for a leg with no foot instead of a normal bendable leg.
How did dude downplay Gummigoo’s death when it literally had the whole fandom in tears
Gummigoo's death was supposed to be quick and basically a blink and you miss it moment. It was meant to communicate a few thematic choices:
1. The fleeting nature of life
2. The irony of Pomni expressing that gummigoo was more than nothing--only for him to be obliterated like he never mattered
3. The desperate attempt to feel in control of something while one being/entity holds almost absolute power over you.
"The Candy Princess"

Looking back, this adventure plays just like one of those fast-paced racing games: More emphasis on the action and mission objective than the story or characters. The princess being underutilized makes a lot of sense, in that case. Everything plays according to the script: Players on one side and the enemy NPCs on the other.
It’s actually when everything goes wrong- the group’s rig falling into the river combined with Gunmigoo and Pomni getting Backrooms’d- that we get the real substance of the episode, in my opinion. Everyone is forced to stop and rethink everything.
I liked it! Especially when Pomni showed empathy towards Gummygoo, Jax is still my favorite character despite his development to become a bit more antagonist but I like his personality overall. It got me emotional when there was Kaufmo’s funeral, I swear I could’ve cried. It got me shocked when Gummygoo was poofed out by Caine, I would’ve loved to see him in the circus despite him being an NPC. I hope Pomni settles to the Circus and I hope to see more Jax development.
Idk I think the fact Pommi made that connection with gummigoo it was pretty nice to see and the fact he got kill off that fast was very brutal

As soon and Pomni invited Gummigoo to their circus place thing i knew Caine was going to snap him out of existence so Gummigoo's death wasnt too surprising to me and i kind of laughed at that bit tbh
"I know you guys love your NPCs, but if I start losing track of who's a human and who's an NPC, who knows what...COULD HAPPEN." That line still haunts me to this day.
Tbh, I don’t think that Gumigoo death itself should be depressing, but the fact that Pomni found someone she liked and somehow cared about and then lost that immediately, leaving her to loose more of her sanity
