Draining Huge Flood By Pushing Over Grate With Tremendous Pressure Against It And Clog Hunting

  • I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
    I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
    Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

    So last night I was at the beach (Lake Erie, northeast Ohio) with family/friends and we were digging a channel so the creek could drain better into the lake, which is my absolute favorite thing to do. Anyway, my dad saw what we had done and he asked me if I ever watch your videos and I was shocked that he knew who you were. 😁😁 Thought that was pretty cool.

    For some reason, your channel disappeared from my notified channels. I've fixed that now. But I have to say one thing, I don't know what it is about the channel, but it is so addictive to watch. You explain everything so thoroughly and are so enthused by what you do. You provide a great service to your community, and I get to watch hours and hours of it back to back. Never stop. I love the channel. Thank you for all you do.

    I stumbled upon your channel just a few days ago, and I'm already loving it! I love that you don't see wildlife as a nuisance. I appreciate that you are explaining the role of beavers in balancing the effects of droughts and flooding. I appreciate your explanations what and why you're doing, it makes the videos even more satisfying.
    It's crazy how warm it was this past spring. I live on the opposite side of the Earth, but I've noticed that we have had quite similar climate patterns here in Estonia, in North-Eastern Europe. In my country all of the rivers are very dark brown because they begin in peat bogs - lot's of organic matter.

    I like the thinking out aloud when you don’t realise you’re doing it, weighing up the pros and cons if you should or shouldn’t enter the water, and if so for how long..
    It’s brilliant how you never take a culvert for granted and process the culvert to see if it’s safe. You’ll go far with that method and not make stupid errors.

    You mentioned the u-posts were not serving any purpose against the grate, but remember, you could NOT push it at all when they were in place. The grate became much easier to move after you removed the u-posts. They worked well to hold the grate up against the pipe, by preventing it from falling away. I really enjoy your videos! Keep them coming!

My daughter was born in June and we was going to have her party at the park and cook on the grill. But it was so cold we had to call it off from the park and everyone go to my house and I was still trying to grill with a winter coat, gloves and a stocking hat. I'll never forget that June. God bless you and your family my friend.

  • @Bobal27
    @Bobal27 Před rokem +11

    This is the perfect scenario for a “poking stick.” A slightly sharp-ended stick to jam vertically into the area you suspect the culvert to exist, that will pierce through dirt but not a pipe. You don’t need a metal detector, or to dig around for a half hour on guesswork, just jam the stick in multiple places along the side of the road, and when you hit something, jam it along that until you stop hitting it, and you should have located the culvert’s mouth. Then dig there for 5 minutes, clearing it, and bam. Clean entrance on a long-buried culvert.

    • @Bobal27
      @Bobal27 Před rokem +5

      Ooh, I take that back at 5:15. Feet of gravel is the weakness of the poking stick. Gravel stops a poking stick in its tracks. I have a suspected buried culvert here in my town, went out with a long, neon orange sign post, to poke around, and the entire area (under less than an inch of dirt) was solid gravel where there probably used to be a ditch.

    It's very nice that those T-Posts were so easy to remove. I believe their purpose is to support the grate in place against the culvert when the water is low so that it does not become dislodged when the water isn't as high. Great work, love this video especially! Amazing hydraulic pressure against that grate with the added resistance of the debris.

    In the East of England U.K. the tool you are using is called by the older locals a Cromb.

      I also enjoy seeing the bears but unfortunately it's usually throwing trash cans across the yard, hasn't been here awhile

    I like the old roads. We have a lot like that especially in Northern Idaho. Mostly the old roads are still open because they go to old farms or similar.

    They recently installed a brand new storm drain in my area, which is really cool. Going to keep an eye on it.

    That first pipe is a good one to ignore. Water has another route, so that little pool is beneficial for critters.
