    very helpful, I did everything just like in the video and my drain problem is all fixed, called 3 plumbers, cheapest was asking $550 to come out, and I just went to Lowe's and bought a $29.99 tool, took care of all the problems. Thanks a lot!!

    New subscriber. Been doing maintenance for apartments most my working life. Great video! Just a warning to anyone new to using a powered snake; be extra careful while operating with gloves on. Normally you don't want to wear gloves while using any power tool, but due to where you will most likely be using a snake such as drains and toilets, gloves provide protection from an array of possibly harmful substances that may be encountered while clearing drain lines. Be careful to not have a glove get caught in your snake coil. Your hand and fingers can be injured pretty severely if it gets caught and wound, especially if you're using a bigger drum snake and have someone else running the motor.

    The kitchen Drain line is the issue it collects a lot of debris and causes the back ups due to the fact that kitchen and laundry share a common line to the nearest bathroom Hydro jetting the kitchen line along with the laundry line cures this issue for many years approximately 15 years of accumulation before a homeowner notices any issues

      That is exactly my issue; the backwash overflowed in the washer area, and now I cannot get rid of the smell, despite cleaning with bleach; I'm overwhelmed, don't know what to do, and can't find a resolution; if anyone who is knowledgeable is reading this, should I take off the baseboards, and cut the drywall, checking to see if it's wet? Oh, the humanity.

    Thank you and I just did this tonight, but could not get past the neck/turn. I am using Green Gobber Enzyme - in which I used 2 years ago on the kitchen sink and it worked great. Yesterday, I used the garden hose and 'listened' to see if it was flowing and did hear it start to bubble/fill up, so obviously not cleared yet. I will try the auger again tomorrow, and then to the roof (thanks to all comments below) to clear the vent pipes. This 1965 set up has been working for me since 2012, but in July 2023, had a sewer/pump elec. breakdown and could not use any plumbing in the house for about 3 weeks, which caused this washer back up? Oh Joy, more fun tomorrow! Thanks for the tip on the 'getting around the pipe 'turn' joint!

  • @AmysBoxofChocolates-ql5ul

    Great instructional video! My husband has had to snake ours a few times, but it's getting to where it doesn't take but a couple of months before it overflows again. We've been told it's because of our 2 inch drain pipe and the newer washing machines that pump out the water. Apparently, the smaller pipe and gravity aren't enough to keep up with the pump. Any thoughts or suggestions on a resolution - other than having to jackhammer the concrete to replace the pipe?

    Going to do this right now. On ours it has a clear small rain tube which seems to be coming from upstairs and there is water that’s draining out of it. Our wash machine drain did not back up. This is where we were here in the gurgling at. So now because we know that Claire pipe that also goes into the washing machine drain tube were wondering if the blockage might be upstairs instead of downstairs. Any words of advice would be very welcomed. Thanks for doing this. We appreciate it. I subscribed.

    Question, I opened the filter on the actual washing machine to make sure it was clean. The residual water inside smelled like sewage but was clear. When I pulled up the hose going into the standing pipe, it looked like it maybe had sewage on the end of it? Is this an indication that the sewage is making it all the way up or is the brown stuff normal on this? How worried should I be?

    • @kylepeffley
      @kylepeffley Před rokem

      Washing machine just needs cleaning. The thing you removed on your washing machine acts like a filter and needs to be cleaned every so often.

    These are always a pita. I find many times testing with just the water supply hose doesn't compare to the amount the machine flows and can get frustrating call backs that it's still not draining... In my experience a water snake, water balloon type snake is the better option. I used to hate getting these jobs. Now they are a breeze.

    here is a good one for you. my washer at least 1 time a year we would have to have it cleaned. then it got to where snaking would not work. so i put a t on about 3 to 4 inches from the top and put a bucket to catch the water. we was going to do a bathroom remodel and i did not want to keep letting water run all over the floor. also our washer and dryer is behind our bathroom. so i started the demo and we have a ranch slab style house so i dug down and exposed the lines coming from the washer and the top looked fine i got to really looking at it and the whole back side of the pipe was gone. the washer was draining in the hole where the pipes when through to the main i could not believe it. and it was the old galvanized pipe from the 50's i got it all cut out and replaced and it has been about 2 years and no issues oh also the used 1 1/2 inch pipe to. back then they thought that pipe was going to last forever i bet.

    what about when it's frozen?? Ours froze yesterday. At least I'm assuming because it's about -13 degrees here and this has never happened before this weather came in. We were washing clothes and it backed up on the floor. Pulled up the drain hose and saw water just sitting on top. The water and wall is very cold.

    A good video. Unfortunately, I've done it exactly as you describe, including using hot water to flush the line, and still have a problem.
    It comes and goes & to a varying degree. The line will flow, but slower than the washer discharge.
    Currently it has to be stopped 4 times while pumping the water out, but sometimes only 2 times & then it will run ok for a while.
    It seems as though there is debris in the line that moves to create the blockage. The snake will go the full 25' which will reach the 4" main line & come out "clean", so it seems that the snake can get past the blockage.
    I've run the hose while running the snake. I've run the snake from the vent. Is there a brush accessory that will "scrub" the whole inside of the line instead of only the 1/4 to 1/2" of the snake and auger tip?

    I can run my hot water straight into the drain and it doesn’t overflow but as soon as let the washing machine drain itself into the pipe it overflows. Why is that?

    • @seanramlal7326
      @seanramlal7326 Před 11 měsíci +1

      That’s cause the new washers drain at a higher rate than the old ones, also running any water from a pipe source wouldn’t equate the flow from the washer’s drain cycle, especially the new washers

    Does the size of the washer hose cause the back up in the drain? Our drain has a backup and I was told by apartment manager that it was the size of the hose because the washer was too powerful and it is shooting out water at a high speed. She asked me to switch out the hose that came with the washer. Of course I did not do it. I don’t agree with her. Her plumber said there was no back up in the drain
