An old Corelle dinner plate works to lay hot tools on if you don't have a silicone mat. Suitable for hot glue guns too and the excess glue peels right off. It's so rewarding to create your own craft supplies! Just discovered your channel today while hunting down gesso recipes. Great technique and so meditative!

Just a tip...the plastic and metal rest for the tool IS very useful, IF you tape it to your work surface. Taping it, prevents it from shifting.

Thanks for the tip about the plastic dividers Janelle!! I've used mylar with my wood burning tool before and I can relate to the frustration with that material. I'm going ot try the file folder dividers like you use!!

Thanks for the helpful tips and info. Very helpful. I own a couple of these wood burning tools & the WRMK FUSE Tool, which will all work great for this. My only hold up in making my own stencils has been the difficulty of finding a stencil material that i like, that's not too thick to cut details out of and is affordable. The file folders will work great, so thats very helpful!! My only advice to you as far as the video tutorial goes would be to try and sum it up a little and not talk about unrelated things so much because i honestly found myself getting impatient and almost closed the video because it was taking so long to start the actual tutorial. I hope you don't take my comment negatively, because i don't mean it that way at all. Just hoping to give you my opinion as a viewer. Thanks again for all the info & tips! Im definitely doing this asap.

I use the glass plate out of my old non-working microwave for setting my glue gun on. Works great, don't have to worry about drips cause when they have cooled, they pop right off.

I've seen people store their stencils made from the plastic notebook dividers in 3 ring binder notebooks and then punch holes in the printed paper to keep the stencils from tangling with each other or cutting off the side tabs and storing the masks and stencils in transparent document sleeves with the paper behind it showing the design. You have some beautiful designs there. I have a wood burning tool which looks very similar. I've been wondering if I could use it to make my own stencils if I got a fine tip for it. Sod-dur-ring is the pronunciation for "soldering" (silent L). My son used to solder parts together at work.

+Wilma Taranda I’m not sure of the temperature range, it usually says in the description online or in the package for both a soldering tool & a wood burning tool. You can search for “soldering tool” or “plaid stencil cutter” on amazon & either should work. “Plaid” is the brand name of the ones I like to use.

You might even do a second stencil with the areas lost saved in it, this stencil you picked was a very difficult type to do. (They were Lily of the Valley?).I loved your ideas and suggestions .
