      Requiem in E flat minor, Op. 14 was created by Józef Kozłowski, a Polish composer for the death of King Stanisław August Poniatowski, the last king of Poland. Maybe that is why it is so little known, for political reason and partition of Poland, after partition of Poland the occupiers made sure that as little as possible was heard about Poland and Polish kings and Polish composers.

    This Requiem is one of the very best - and not besides anyone else's Requiem in it's own capacity! One is completely stunned infront of it's absolute beauty - confronting the most difficult and definite events in one's lifes finals. This music is troublesome and revolt one's soul into a state of solemn prayer for mercy and pity... And it's about to make us all a miracle in lifting us all up to the musical hight's of the sublime. "In the End is My Beginning...". Though - One Wonders!

    • @steveegallo3384
      @steveegallo3384 Před 7 lety +1

      Truly phantastic. How would you contrast it with Cherubini's?

    • @mikethepike1000
      @mikethepike1000 Před 7 lety +6

      Dear Stevee Gallo!
      I will take this very serious - the similarities are obvious but difficult. The "closest" one get to this enormous piece of music is - though - Otto Olsson (a swedish composer I must add since being from Sweden; Otto Olsson's "best" piece is not the requiem, though, but his "Te Deum" but that's all my own opinion; Otto Olsson was an expert on organ too and his symphonies are troublesome...).
      So I will have to come up with an answer to your excellently interesting question within the course of this week. The trouble is if Osip Kozlovski ever heard Cherubini's requiem. And Osip seems to be a composer of outermost rang in skill and knowledge. It's a real pity he has been neglected for so long - but that has to be changed! Some more of his music MUST be recorded - as a matter of fact he wrote two requiems and beside this some very interesting operas (not recorded to my knowledge - one could read the manuscript though but that is a highly demanding and difficult task; one of his opera "Zelmira and Smelon" was performed but unfortunately not recorded in 2004) - it's not a matter only for us interested in the history of music as such but for the rest of the humanity and not least for Russia it self. Come on directors and record and perform this beautyful marvelous music and let dear Osips music be heard - it's worth the effort all the way! (But there are so very much - not to say enormoulys again - that still awaits recording. I know of really curious and highly beautiful music made by highly skilled composers that is mentioned perhaps in fotnotes only, but is of such relevance that one can't but wonder why they are not recorded! And - these composer's can be counted in thousands... and the music they wrote for us is several magnitudes higher!)
      A clue to this requiem by Osip is perhaps some 32 - 45 minutes in this requiem. Here one's feelings for the music reaches a level one cant really describe - not like nothing else in the "branch"! It's out of this world and blows one's profound view of what life is as such... And it's not too introvert but sets tunes to one's most deeply sought feelings like no one else is capable of! Im stunned.
      Greetings from Mikael in Sweden! Please await more analysis of this fantastic when I'm ready!

      A small note to "KuhlauDilfeng3": The composer was born in Propoysk in Belarus. I can strongly recommend the book "Polish Encounters, Russian Identity" by David L. Ransel and Bożena Shallcross from 2005. It's a rare book to find - and read!
      Thank's so very much for this music and if you find other recordings please let me know! I'm over the top for hear more of Osip Kozlovski (I have found only one recording more...)!
      Very best and most noble greetings from Mikael in Sweden!

    Один из самых известных музыкантов своего времени, автор знаменитого
    героического полонеза "Гром победы, раздавайся", ставшего гимном Российской
    империи, Осип Антонович Козловский (1757-1831)
    Композитор родился в польской дворянской семье в 1757 году. Музыке начал обучаться в соборе Святого Яна и Варшаве, где пел в церковном хоре и играл на органе.
    В годы русско-турецкой войны Осип Козловский вступил в ряды русской армии и привлёк к себе внимание князя Потемкина, который покорённый музыкальным талантом молодого офицера привез его в Петербург и представил ко двору императрицы Екатерины II.
    Славу композитору принесло участие в торжественных мероприятиях, устроенных Потемкиным в честь взятия крепости Измаил в 1791 году. На концерте в Таврическом дворце были исполнены 5 хоров, а также обработки русских, молдавских и украинских танцев, написанные Козловским для праздника. Эти сочинения, особенно знаменитый "Гром победы, раздавайся" на стихи Г. Державина, снискали композитору славу
    Козловскому приписывают создание нового жанра - романса на стихи русских авторов.
    Осип Козловский считается автором первого реквиема в России.
    Реквием на смерть польского короля Станислава II Августа Понятовского, написанный для четырёх голосов с оркестром, впервые был исполнен на церемонии погребения в католическом Храме Святой Екатерины Александрийской в Петербурге 25 февраля 1798 года

    Parece severo, cortante como lâmina gelada, mas segue-se uma lenta majestosa serenidade envolta em raios de esperança que talvez só Fauré tenha conseguido. O Dies Irae quase a nivelar o que Mozart nos deixou. Extremamente uniforme na mensagem de dor "conformada" , "racionalizada" mas nem por isso menos humana. Brilhante. Dos "novos" Requiems mais notáveis que tenho ouvido.

    Peccato ,non ero a conoscenza di questo capolavoro e, in verità, non conoscevo neppure l'autore; mi sono rivolto al mio libro del Conservatorio e non riporta neppure il nome. Peccato veramente.! Dopo il Requiem di Mozart e lo Stabat Mater di Pergolesi , poche opere di questo tipo mi hanno commosso: al Kyrie ho pianto, anche se cala un poco al Dies irae ( forse a causa del Dies irae di Mozart, insuperabile) , ma già al " Tuba mirum " col basso e col soprano nel "Judex ergo" torna la bellezza e si sente la presenza religiosamente meditata dell'autore. Terribile il "Confutatis maledictis ", ripetuto , quando neanche il giusto sarà salvato. Opera bellissima, con la " Marche funèbre". I miei complimenti a chi ha postato e mi ha fatto conoscere quest'opera bellissima, stupenda per musicalità e religiosità, Grande orchestra, bravi i cantanti e grande direttore Vladimir Yesipov. This Requiem was written not just for a person but for a whole country. It was written for the last King of Poland, Stanisław August Poniatowski, who died in Petersburg 3 years after being forced to abdicate. It is sometimes called 'A Requiem for Poland' in Polish literature, but that is definitely far-fetched.

    Osip Antonovich Kozlovsky (
    Polish: Józef Kozłowski; Russian: О́сип Анто́нович Козло́вский; 1757/1759 - 11 March [O.S. 27 February] 1831) was a Russian composer of Polish origin. He composed the wonderful Requiem Mass in E flat minor Missa pro defunctis for the death of Stanisław August Poniatowski, the last King of Poland (1732-1798), commissioned by the King himself before his death and performed on 25 February 1798 in St Petersburg.

    A été composé quelques mois avant la première de missa in angustiis d Haydn .

    Ce Requiem est résolument l'un des meilleurs que j'ai entendu - je me sens comme étourdi devant sa beauté absolue - Il semble dur, tranchant comme une lame de glace, mais suit une sérénité majestueuse lente enveloppé dans des rayons d'espoir que sans doute seulement G. Fauré a atteint, et il est sur le point de faire de nous tous un miracle en nous soulevant tous à la hauteur du sublime. "À la fin est mon commencement"

    • @josemiguelpalaoibanez2830
      @josemiguelpalaoibanez2830 Před 7 lety +1

      Absolutamente de acuerdo, sólo el de Fauré se le iguala en quietud y en esa forma de suavizar una canción a la muerte. Ciertos retazos de Mozart nos recuerda el siglo en el que fue compuesto. Es realmente sublime.

    Uma obra surpreendentemente bela, contida e de um lirismo "mozartiano". Destaca-se mais pela serenidade e boas melodias corais que pelo virtuosismo das belas vozes solistas.
