    Hola, which place do you like better? The DR or Mérida. Also, as a Black senior female, I tend to get stares. Just the other evening I walked into an OXXO. There were a lot of Mexican men in line, I guess they were getting off from work. They all turned to stare at me. I just went and picked up my water and then I got in line. No one has treated me in a hostile manner I'm sure it would equate to a unicorn walking in. In the community where we live I'm pretty sure that they just haven't seen anything like me before so it's something that I just have to accept. I wear Grey extensions and I usually get a lot of complements on my hair so Everything is Everything. I Love Mérida!

    • @Curtworrell
      @Curtworrell  Před rokem +1

      I love the beach in DR but rather be here in Mexico 🇲🇽 the people are much nicer here. I totally get you when it comes to the stares. I usually speak and they come right in to my world. 😆 I figured the are not used the seeing people like me so I don’t make a big deal out of it.

I enjoyed what you said in regards to "looking" or being "peculiar" ... also- how you articulated that we often have triggers when black because of being brought up in race focused societies. Sometimes it's easy to focus on race instead of the simple fact that we are unique or different or intriguing.

    Nice video Brother. You wouldn't happen to be sitting infront of Gran Hotel De Merida are you? There's a Starbucks and ice cream parlor out front. I stayed there back in July this year. Loved the vintage feel of the hotel and I could walk to anything I needed. I'm coming back to Merida in January to finish my Temp Residency. However I'll just be staying for about a month. Again, great info.

      Gran Hotel, is my favorite hotel. I stayed there for the first time as a small child with my parents in 1969. I now live and vlog from Mexico since 2021. Great country.

  • @transformationwithmax4930

    I'm retired and live in Merida for three months per year. It's in the top (10) safest cities in the world. People are warm and friendly, and a very pleasant place to live. Even the police are cordial! I live there during the Winter months because the Summer months are extremely hot! The historic area of Paseo De Montejo is very clean, with lots of refurbished mansions from the 19th and 20th centuries. I love the parks, and it's a very walkable city. The first thing that struck me during my first few visits is that Meridians are very friendly and greet you first before you greet them. I've spent considerable time in the major cities across Mexico, even Mexico City. People are pleasant and respectful, they mirror foreigners' behavior, if you are kind to them, they'll be kind to you. Mexico is one of the greatest countries in the world despite the propaganda from the USA. I agree with Curt's comments.

    I have hearing good things about Merida, a more quieter option then Cancun, and the real estate options are definitely way cheaper and more luxurious for your American dollars, food and dining are relatively inexpensive compared to the United States.

    I did not understand why transportation is an issue in Merida when there are 4 or 5 types of public transportation: 1) Uber 2) DiDi 3) InDrive 4) Taxi 5) Municipal Bus Transit. Private drivers are also available through several private companies in the area. I live in Santiago de Queretaro and we have the same type of transportation services that I just mentioned. ALL of the big cities in Mexico have these services. Can you elaborate as to why transportation in Merida May be an issue?

    I HAD NOTED THAT THE LATIN COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE ARE WHAT WE CALL 'MIRONES' BECAUSE THEY CAN STARE AT YOU FROM HEAD TO TOE, ITS NOT A MATTER OF COLORS, IT IS OUR CULTURE, WE ARE MIRONES. I UNDERSTAND IT IS A LOCK OF EDUCATION ON OUR PART. IN AMERICA YOU DON'T FIND PEOPLE STARING A YOU SO MUCHO LIKE IN LATIN COMMUNITIES.
