oh that's cute, an army that didn't have any deaths, but instead brought back a friend lol I love it
Very wholesome
That's my kind of place
Like the Pig war between Canada & the U.S. on San Juan Island.
I'm not German, nor specially familiar with it, but I'd guess the "not illegal to escape prison" would only mean that no extra time would be added to your sentence (or rather, no extra sentence added to your previous sentence).
Pretty sure the police would still be lookinf for a fugitive and bring them back to prison, should they catch them.
I think.
You have it exactly right. You will still be wanted for escape and apprehended if possible, but the escape itself will not increase your time in jail. That is, of course, not the case for any crimes you might commit in the process of escaping.
Also you would get extra time for all the crimes you committed while escaping, like killing the guard, stealing clothes etc.....You just don't get extra time for the escape.
Yes, the law actually the same here in Sweden. However, in practice, people often commit other crimes when they escape (violence, threatening people, reckless driving, etc.).
@@tarksurmani6335 I think it's possible to escape prison without killing anybody or stealing clothes. I don't know if German prisoners get parole like they do in the US, but 'escaping prison' can be as easy as just not returning from parole, and a lot of countries allow low-security prisoners to wear normal civilian clothes so you could blend in quite easily.
@@idot3331 Well if you escape prison without damaging property, injuring people or stealing something, kudos to you. But that will still be added on the sentence if it happens
Swaziland is known as Eswatini nowadays
Thank you!
@@NoProtocol eSwatini means land of the Swazi, in Swazi.
@@TrashskillsRS
Is. "" Swazi "" a language
@@unknown-unknown69 yes, its a tribal one, like the neighbouring Zulus in South Africa
@@user-eh3zz5jg9i That's why it was changed to eSwatini because of this confusion.
You are right about Swaziland. It changed to Eswatini in 2018.
That’s relatively recent, thanks Donald!
@@NoProtocol You're welcome. Keep up the great work. Your passion for knowledge is admirable.
To add to the list, Turkey rebranded itself as Türkiye at the UN and NATO in early 2022.
While The Czech Republic wants to be known az Czechia and it is the official short geographic name since 2016 (similar to France that is officially The French Republic)
A very large section of Canada was scraped under glacier back in the last ice age. They were like icy bulldozers pushing whatever they scraped up south; and then, when they receded dropped a lot of embedded material. There were a lot of eroded holes in the rock that the glaciers scraped over. In general at least. Makes for great cottage country in some places.
As an explanation for why there are so many lakes, the same applies to Finland (and Scandinavia in general).
If I were to give a literary recommendation, it would be to study an atlas. Just look at it. Become familiar with it. I remember as a boy studying an old atlas long before I ever imagined that I would have the good fortune to travel. It filled me with wonder. I’m grateful for every country I’ve travelled to. Human beings are remarkable. So much beauty and diversity, and so much in common too.
Me and my brother's used to do that as small kids, we had a huge atlas and chronicles of the 21st century although I think we just used to look rather than read for fun after carting it into the living room and laying on the floor.
Does studying an atlas make you wordly?
aye you onnna come up fr, keep grinding
A stellar video to unwind to after work, thanks for uploading it.
New to your channel, and "so much more to learn..." is what'll keep me watching. Wonderful stuff.
You’re awesome 🙌
Love your reactions 🫶🏻
People are sleeping on The Gambia --- but it's best left that way. The government and the people like to remain peaceful, they're also home to the original Jollof rice. There was a bit of political uprising a few years back but it was barely covered by the news. I do recall a few Gambians I know mention offering aide to nearby countries (mainly Senegal) when they were going through political issues as well. Every person I've met from there so far has been very mild mannered and they never once raise their voice. Love that little hidden gem of a country and its people.
The Indian Pacific crosses the Nullarbor. The Ghan travels from Darwin to Adelaide. ✌️🇦🇺
I love your channel. I find you very interesting because you are so interested, if that makes any sense. Your wide range of interest is quite like my own, and very rare. I play a geography game online and know the name and location of every officially recognized country in the world. Not only are those around me not impressed, but they are completely disinterested. It's hard for me to imagine not wanting to know things. You are a breath of fresh air. Keep em coming, I'll keep watching.
Yes the things usually needed to escape prison, like drugging the guard or smashing a window, is still illegal but if you can escape without doing anything like that the only thing that happens is that your sentence is paused until you get caught or return. There was a case in Sweden where an inmate escaped to keep his dentist appointment and returned to the prison the day after.
The dentist didn't just cancel when he heard the news?
@@KarmasAB123 Probably didnt hear about it.
The Spanish Netherlands was today's Belgium, to distinquish it from the Northern Dutch Republic, which declared independence from Spanish Habsburg empire.
Man I was waiting for Suriname to come and it was deadass the last country he mentioned 😭😭 nice that the video ended there 🇸🇷❤️
The other interesting thing about the lake situation is that everyone has a different idea of what a lake is, I learned this recently when I moved to Wisconsin and watched the news the weather guy said technically Wisconsin has more lakes than Minnesota but Wisconsin counts smaller ponds as lakes unlike Minnesota
I LOVE trivial factoids. Good post.
St. Kitts & Nevis was the 1st country to offer citizenship by investment back in the 1980s
I've been to Pt. Roberts. When I visited, I had to drive through a populated suburb of Vancouver to get to the border crossing. Once on the U.S. side, the surroundings were closer to what one would see if they'd driven into the mountains to a cabin or vacation home. Prior to the pandemic, Pt. Roberts had mostly Canadian home-owners and visitors.. so much so that the gas stations there charge by the litre instead of by the gallon.
yes you are right Swaziland is Eswatini nowadays.
when it ended, I searched for your part two, then looked at the upload date and saw I was just early
Just a bit early! I’m also keen for pt. 2 next week

Yep, the Ghan crosses the Nullarbor plain (Nullarbor = no trees - not much lives there as the narrator says) and that perfectly straight stretch of the Trans-Australian railway track is the longest straight stretch in the world.
I thunk I knew pretty much all of the names (maybe one or two caused me a 'huh' momemt), but not sure I knew all tha facts! It is nice to have it pointed out how ignornat you are in such a polite, informative fashion!
You have my favorite intros btw.

There is a land border between France and Brazil: French Guiana. It was made possible by a bridge over the Oyapock River. It took 20 years to complete the project, but it was finally opened to traffic in 2017
I like you videos about maps

Excellent reactions...
Pls take an in depth look into Australia including it's amazing populated history which extended back 65,000 years up to invasion in 1786. We think you'll be amazed
great video, I live in Canada and I didn't know we had that many lakes.
There’s more than we can even count, some estimates have us at millions
Hey I just wanted to stop by to recommend something. Ive seen you reacting to a bunch of history related videos so I wanted to recommend "The Mongol Destruction of Baghdad" by History Dose. A fairly short video which I liked very much.
I have never been out of ohio. I appreciate your channel
I’ve never been to Ohio. I’m glad you’re liking it Joe (:
lol, I thought i was the only one, i watch train videos more than plane ones. But I have alot of train trips to take now because of those videos.
I watch more train videos too. Mostly sleeper trains though! Venice-Simplon Orient Express is on the top of my list as far as how impressive it is, then the Andean Explorer, Rovos Rail... Yet, some of the Amtrak trips through the US don’t seem half bad either. I could chat this subject for ages so I’ll just leave it at: “You’re not the only one.”
@No Protocol Yes!!! That's the ones I watch also!!!! Kindred spirits!!!!. I get all excited when I see the dining cars and what the meals look like also the trains that have observatory cars. Let me stop I could go on for days about this but I'm taking a trip from Chicago to SF on the California Zephyr this year and want to take the cross Canada train next year from Toronto to Vancouver
The food is one of the top draws, for sure. Sometimes I skip to see what they ate then go back to watch the rest of the video. Wow, let me know how the Zephyr is once you’ve gone! I’ve seen a few videos on that one
German here. Only the act of breaking out itself is not illegal. And the original sentence remains intact of couse - in other words: they find you. Austria and Switzerland have the same law.
I've ridden on Ethiopian Airlines for 26 hours and it was amazing!
Swaziland is now called Eswatini.
Sorry if someone already said this, I haven't looked through the comments.
at 2: 55 that Bridge is leading from the Swiss to the "Church" the Church is Germany allready...i live 20km away from there.
Nice hoodie!!! Is that Golden Boy boxing hoodie? As in Oscar De La Hoya?
There is an interesting video on the Zone of Death which is the 50-square-mile area in the Idaho section of Yellowstone National Park in which, as a result of a reported loophole in the Constitution of the United States, a person could theoretically avoid conviction for any major crime, up to and including murder.
Greetings from Macclesfield.

German here, while it's true that it's not illegal to escape prison, there are of course stipulations. The biggest one would be that if you escape and destroy stuff or harm other humans, everything you have done will be added to your sentence.
On the other hand, if you manage to escape without committing another crime and they catch you after the fact... legally speaking they can not extend your sentence.
11:17 That is still true, but millions of people do live by the Amazon River. It's just more practical to cross by ferries and ships, though, because not only the roads aren't very good on either side, you can go anywhere by water anyway.
Hello from Croatia !
south Australia also has a half hour legal time
they are big on the "dog fence " it's not for dingoes who are single or couple , it's for wild dogs turned feral and who hunt in packs
Fun fact: Stan translates to land. Also, Pakistan is the only acronym country. In Germany, of course killing a guard is illegal still, but the point of the law is, they won't give you any further charges for trying to escape, because trying to not be in a cage is human nature. It's also illegal to due the heil hand symbol so watch how you hail a cab! :p
*As for videos, I recommend "Geography Now," whose mission is to cover every country in the world in alphabetical order, and in segments of about 30 minutes each. (My only complaint about it is that they skipped Taiwan, which is a de facto independent country.) As for books, I recommend "The Languages of the World" (2nd edition), by Kenneth Katzner, that lists every country that existed in the early 1980's and covers about 200 languages, including those spoken in the "Autonomous Republics" of the former Soviet Union. Unfortunately, the 3rd edition is riddled with mistakes. So, if you keep in mind that the USSR doesn't exist anymore, I believe that the 2nd edition is much better. (Although the 2nd edition is out-of-print, you can still buy copies of it from "independent vendors," via Amazon or other online bookstores.) As for literature or philosophy, I guess Wittgenstein didn't have much to say about the countries of the world! 🙂*
Swaziland is now called Eswatini as of April 4, 2018. the only reason is that they kept being confused with Switzerland.
Canada does paid visas for some parts of the world. or at least did the last i checked a few years ago
World Geography is an amazing app to learn about these countries
Hi, thank you! I’ll actually be taking you up on this suggestion
That factoid about Canada is wild
Oh wow I recognise the Trek Trendy guy. Trying to remember what I must have watched from him before. Maybe something related to trains
I like his channel a lot
I think you'd enjoy learning about the Spanish Netherlands. The Dutch Revolt and subsequent 80 Years War was how the country truly became one, and it wasn't even really a monarchy for a good while.
I was born in America but my father was Sicilian and my mother Russian. It's interesting to learn about the word Guinea. That used to be a derogatory word used to talk about Italians. What's more interesting is Sicilians are more closely related to Northern Africa.
Please do a reaction to time lapse of the entire universe. Also time lapse of the future a journey to the end of time. Also the secret history of the moon.
Fun fact about Kiribati, it's pronounced 'Ki-ri-bas'. Every time he said it 'Ki-ri-ba-tee' I was like dude nah
Another fun fact, until 1979, the Islands were known as the Gilbert Islands. The word "Gilbert", written phonetically in the local language, is spelled "Kiribati"
Visiting every single country of the world is only a matter of will. There is a British guy here on CZcams who visited every single country on the world without ever using a plane. Graham Hughes was his name I think.
Yeah you’re right. You have to escape without committing another crime. Killing a guard? Would not recommend 😆 even if you escape with the inmates clothes it could be theft or if you damage something it’s property damage and all of it is added on the sentence if you get caught again. And even if you will be able to escape completely clean you’re not a free person. You just don’t have to do extra time if they get you again… as far as I know and can describe it with my english
Greetings from Germany. I really love your videos 👍🏻
i was distracted the whole time by the blinking light to the left of your neck, is that like a microphone or something, please i need to know
Canada also has a:30 time zone (Newfoundland)
So does India (+0530)
Basicly turkey invaded cyprus so often in history that modern turkey in the 1900s decided to anex a portion of cyprus whwn it got independence from briatin (mostly down to the argument that due to its history many citizens in the region who are turkish have ancestral roots there
I'd also guess while getting out of prison isn't illegal, your sentence is still the same. It just isn't an additional crime. So they'll put you back in for your old sentence when they find you.
Turkiye (formerly known as Turkey) allows golden visa, too, for 250k USD.
11:53 Indonesia has TWO of those islands. The other is Borneo
Now you can watch Animaniacs Countries of the Wold (song) and see if you can identify how many are gone or changed names.
Edit for lakes: Top 10
Canada - 879,800
Russia - 201,200
USA - 102,500
China - 23,800
Sweden - 22,600
Brazil - 20,900
Norway - 20,000
Argentina - 13,600
Kazakhstan - 12,400
Australia - 11,400
For some reason that list is missing Finland which according to this video has 187 888 lakes. So I guess it would be #3 after Russia.
@@TaikaApina That's what I get for trusting the Internet!
What is there blinking in your sweatshirt?
you are awesome

No, it's not true that nobody lives around the Amazon river.
I've visited Manaus in 1990, and it was already a big city.
Wikipedia says its population is 2.6 millions of people... which is the same as Chicago.
3:23 If they catch you they put you back in prison but escaping is not a crime and you do not get any additional charges. Sweden has the same policy as Germany regarding prison escapes
Yeahhh Italy and Australia
LOL, imagine if escaping prison would actually erase your sentence. 🤣
If I can make a litirary recommendation: Man of the world - book one of the odyssey expedition by Graham Hughes
He made a trip to all recognized countries in the world without flying.
Literary recommendation for you: Around the world in 80 days by Jules Verne.
2:20 Does the Caspian Sea count as "land" now?
Yes, there is a catch in that "it's in human nature to try to escape prison" thing. You won't be punished or brought back only if you escaped without doing any harm to anybody, and if you don't make any material damage.
Oh, you will be brought back if caught, but you won't receive additional jailtime/punishment, because escaping prision isn't an offence. You still have to sit out your sentenced time though.
I saw Portugal ended their golden visa today too smh, time for a new destination. I’ll still visit though.
Literally today it was announced, odd timing for me to mention it
You should check some videos on jails and prison systems around the world. You will be amazed.
swaziland was actually renamed to eswatini in 2018 :)
In Germany a prisoner can earn weekend leave for good behaviour
Switzerland has actually been removing explosives from those bridges as early as 2014.
As far as lakes...you'd be surprised at the mud holes classified s lakes. But water has interesting statistics...like you're never more than 6 miles from a body of water while in Michigan.
In 2018, Swaziland was renamed Eswatini.
5:40 I am pretty sure Malta has those too, I think you have to invest 500.000€ into Real Estate
Eswatini is the new name for Swaziland (2018)
Sweden: Largest amount of islands in the world. Norway: Second longest coastline in the world, second only to Canada
Whereas it is not illegal to attempt to escape prison, it's just a technicality, because almost all ways to escape involve the commission of other other crimes (violence against guards, damage of public property, forgery of official documents, etc etc.)
Literary reference: An Atlas.
Basicly in Germany if you escape, they will try capture you but won't add time to your sentence
May need to re-watch this at some point. The narrator moved quickly (necessary, all things considered), and being a bit unfocused as I just got up not long ago, I didn't catch all he said. If I'm going to spend time on CZcams, I think this is the type of channel to spend it with. Good video selection, and I'll keep an eye out for part 2.
The Netherlands once being called "Spanish Netherlands" is incorrect. The "Spanish Netherlands" were the parts of the modern day Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg and France, which were under Spanish rule after the Dutch Republic rebelled.
New name for Swaziland is Eswatini. I was confused for a second when he said secon1 is Swaziland.
A more interesting fact for Papua New Guinea would be that there is over 800 languages there, about 12% of the total worldwide, slightly larger than California .
Where can we give you suggestions?
In many countries it's not illegal to escape from prison, but most of the acts that lead to escape from prison are illegal on their own. Also, if they escape with prison clothes on, it's considered theft.
Wasn't the US doing golden visas for people from China who were heavily investing in properties here? I remember seeing something about it "ending", but it might've been an unofficially granted thing
15:55 the pronunciation of Kiribati is actually Kiribas
I only really became aware of The Gambia is 2016. Their leader had been ruling for like 22 years and lost an election. Then he tried to declare the elections void. And then the whole country was invaded by some West African coalition.
Swaziland is now Eswatini
Game developers balance games giving the the player a challenge that is neither too hard they get frustrated and give up or too easy when it requires no skill. Game breaking is when this balance is destroyed, normally by an over powered stategy or item.
