The one you choose is amazing because the story of marcello and angelo is similar to abraham with isaac and Ismael where ebraham wife was the one to give the choosen liniege to birth but couldnt so she gave her slave to her husband and then ismael was born but as time went on isaac happened after the miracle of birth by God and so the profecy was done but ismael grow bitter of isaac similar story diffrent places cool stuff
ELLIE story is already sad but one thing left to mention. After convincing Faraday VII to have ELLIE return back to the old lab to serve soup, talk to ELLIE again. She repeats the same lines...but also adds one line *Thank you* This right there made the waterworks flow. A machine gained sentience and thanks you, the player, for giving back her purpose.
Dragon Quest 9 when Greygnarl sacrifices himself for the city of Upover fighting Barbarus... When he says, "We can't having you die yet Guardian of angel falls" He was the only person to really know who we are as the main character. Literally dies saving his village and us.
It was sad in XI when he meets his dad who was eternally trapped in limbo then is able to put him to rest after his dad was proud of who he has become.
Been a few years since my third playthrough of IX but the imagery of finding the Celestrians deep within the Gittish Empire, along with the backstory with Corvus leading to his downfall, sticks in the back of my mind
It's funny how some people talk about how the story telling in Dragon Quest were all silly & too kiddy alike when in actuality, they have more than that. They go deeper, they have serious moments, they have sad moments, there were deaths, there were politicians, there were some violent moments, etc. It had as much as you expect in an story as you would see in most RPG'S. Now I'm not saying Dragon Quest doesn't have it's lighthearted & colorful moments. Cause it does and always will be. But it can also have some darker moments as well. That's how you balanced the tone for these kinds of story.
@@jaretco6423 Absolutely! My favorite writer is Peter David and he’s a master of “the lows feel lower when the highs are so high”. Meaning in good storytelling, humor and lightheartedness is necessary to make the tragedies that much more devastating when they happen.

How can you leave off freeing your father from his endless curse in DQ XI?! He's tortured for many years, and when you finally free him he gets to see his son one last time before he passes away to be with his wife. They even play the song "Make Me Sad" from DQ V, which is a nice callback.

One i remember is in one of the older games, I think 4,5, or 6 you get turned into a statue and then you sit on some guys front yard for like a year or so and no body knows you are stuck in that statue. For some reason that bit is stuck in my memory but don’t remember which game exactly
@@JoeFpoc Yeah that part was super sad! It’s from Dragon Quest 5. As a statue you watch a family’s child grow up from a baby while your own children are out there somewhere. Plus you see that child get taken by the villains to be worked as a slave just like you were earlier in the game.
I'm surprised that the Dragon Quest VI Ashlynn only made it to the 10th spot? For me personally that was the saddest event in any game ever in my 30+ years of gaming, I actually shed some tears for real when that happened in DQVI. My second saddest part was the Mermaid from DQXIs these two moments have been burned in my eyes.
@@dukey03 hahaha fair point. (I did like her though) then again DQ6 was the 3rd DQ I played and brought me into playing 1, 2, 3 and then all the following games, except 10 never became available here in Europe and my japanese sucks to play it on Switch or PS 🙄
@dukey03 my 2nd place pick is the ENTIRE Regenstein story from Dragon Quest 7. The village where everyone is stone and the only survivor is the one old man

Fair warning though, specially in anything from 6 months or so prior, its all in 4k 60fps, with Reshade. I often get asked why my game looks so superior to others due to it. So they may ask you as well if you use any. Ah, water realm. Your gonna love....the next tower after that one.

My pick? In Dragon Quest 11 S the Hendrik and Shadow Jasper fight. Jasper's screams of pain. Hendrik's Apology. Jasper fading away....it hit me hard
