Greetings from Brazil. We love the Chevrolet Montana, as it was called here. And we, too, miss this car.
For some reason, we still have the second generation available new here, but it is a crappy car, only people who need a workhorse buy one today.
Ford stopped selling the Courier here about 10 years ago, without any good reason, because it was a good car too.
But today we still have some options, Fiat Strada and VW Saveiro are the best ones here.

My 1.4L 2009 model just done 410 000kms. Jus thad a head gasket let go at 220 000kms. Very little issue with it. Deleted the cat and I ended up saving almost 2L per 100kms in fuel and a little bit more power. After all this distance it still hardly uses any oil. One issue however with all of these vehicles is the keyway on the crank where the crank pully slides on starts to ovalize over time especially when you get close to 400 000kms or there about. This obviously results in the cam timing starting to lag and the longer you drive the worse it gets eventually it feels like you are driving a 500cc. After spending R36K on replacing the lower control arms, bushings, cv joints, brake disks, gear linkage bushings I figured I might as well drop in a new engine. I travel A LOT of farm roads. I would say close to a third of the mileage was on farm roads. Solid bakkie. I love it.

As much as I sympathise, I’m also jealous at the same time!. At least in South Africa you have the opportunity to buy the Nissan NP200 new and others like the Corsa utility used. I’m in the UK and unless you can find a Proton Jumbuck (only available from 2003-2007 I think), there are no options for anyone looking for a small pickup or Bakkie. I am a self employed window cleaner and have long since come to the conclusion that a small bakkie would be absolutely ideal for my work, much more suitable than a van like I currently have to use. The only option, other than the Proton, I have is the dropside version of the Fiat Doblo. These are available in the UK, but are too expensive for me new, and far too scarce used. There just doesn’t seem to be a market for this type of vehicle in the UK (otherwise there wouldn’t be so few of the Doblo dropside available). I have looked into the possibility of importing an NP200, but as far as I can find out, it is virtually impossible to import a vehicle from South Africa into the UK unless over 10 years old. This is a great pity, as South Africa is also RHD, so it would be much more convenient than getting used to a LHD (obviously not impossible though). I do also really fancy a Nissan 1400, not as a work vehicle (payload is too small), but just as a cool runaround with a set of retro alloy wheels.
Hey ho, will just have to keep daydreaming!.

And then GM stepped in and messed up, as usual. Ai...Americans, sometimes, ai!
There are a few bakkies in this class available today or coming soon, some not in SA and destination of the rest to be confirmed.
🥃, here's to hoping for more options than just the NP200 (which is not on same level as this Corsa was - just saying)! Cheers Ciro🥃

I owned two brand new Corsa Utilities in the space of 4 months. The first one crashed really well. Walked away without a scratch. They were the one of the best looking things ever. The Chevy replacements were hideous.

I own one. Man it's the best there is. Maintaince wise.fuel wise. Man its was built to last. It's just the best utility bakkie one can have. I love everything about it I mean everything.

Well said....I still don't understand why we don't have them new on the floor...This bakkie is in demand so much I want one as well but the owners don't wanna let go of them.

Tbh this generation Corsa is actually better than the newer one...
It actually still looks good Inside and out to this day
And all the engine options were great

On the 1.4 models they also lowered the gearing which meant Freeway speeds were annoying but it also meant it could carry heavy loads without struggling too much

You forgot airbags lol. We bought this bakkie in 2005 in the famous Granada Red metallic color which was a special order back then. We drove ours until it had 170 000km on the clock. Also had a water pump leak at 40 000 and computer error at 120 000 but other than that it was rock solid performer.

If I had the option to get one at comparative prices of that era but in today's prices... I would buy one without a second thaught. Prices are insane and a small utility bukkie is insane value for money. I WANT THEM BACK, I'LL BE ONE OF THE FIRST BUYERS

Lol Dieter must have gotten the cream of the crop. Check on market place and gumtree the amount of non runner diesel versions for sale. I own a 2009 1.4 model with just under 250 000km on the clock. I must admit it drives very solid still. But it's also my most unreliable vehicle ever owned, I rarely even drive it now. Engine wise the vehicle is tops but the electrics let's it down just like all other opels before it. I still prefer my Nissan 1400 above the Opel utility.

Actually Ciro it’s not a regular corsa chassis. Sure it’s based on the corsa but it uses the platform from the combo van that is stronger than the corsa platform. So in a nutshell it is but not quite

Its a segment in the market which Toyota and Isuzu does not cater for and has more potential according to me. Thanks Ciro.

Forget another Opel bakkie, at least until Opel enters the Brazilian market. Right now it would be easier to place a bet on the 2nd generation of the Fiat Strada, even though at the moment it's only available in some LHD markets.
