The changing from winter to spring does one of my favorite things. And if you're lucky enough to have these in your city or town, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. Cherry Blossoms.
I was spoiled by living in Japan and experiencing 花見 towards the end of March. 花見 (Hanami) means to view flowers, and specifically this term is used for Cherry Blossom viewing. Japan goes big as there is a strong connection to the changing of weather and seasons. This goes back and is still visible today in terms of farming and agriculture.
Every major city, every mini town and village put on their own version of 花見 and people from every corner of the area come and enjoy the spectacle together. For me, while living in Nagoya, Japan, this area was the Yamazaki River in Minami Ku. I love it. It brings back years of memories that I still think about when I'm away. It brings me back. Luckily Seattle does a pretty good job of Cherry Blossom viewing (check University of Washington Commons). So in some ways, Japan is not that for away from me.
