  • Part 3 of drawing our Fluffy Cat and today we’ll be starting to fill out the face.
I’ll talk you through the colours I’m using, and have a bit of a chat about how I use different colours to build layers and tackle my light and dark areas. I’ll also point out a couple of the areas I found challenging when I created this drawing and give you an idea of how I approached them.
If you haven’t seen parts 1 and two yet, where we focussed on the eyes and the first ear, you can watch them here:

Do you use a fixative on pastelmat? In between layers or just at the end? I am getting ready to start a cat portrait with similar coloring and I want to try pastelmat. I have a charcoal colored paper to practice on. My latest was done on a cold press watercolor paper and I had a hard time smoothing the eyes for details. Is that just a matter of more layers or burnishing early on? I have taken my drawings to a new level thanks to your videos!! ❤️🙏🏼

I don’t use any fixative ever. I think with the cold press you’re battling against the texture - pastelmat is a super surface to draw on 🥰

Hi Bonny. Can you help me. My problem is impatience. Once I start the drawing I want it finished as soon as I possibly can. I am usually working in graphite and can be a lot quicker than in coloured pencil. Any tips on how to be more patient

It’s all about falling in love with the process. I’ve had to teach myself to love the slowness 🥰
