    Hi Tess,
    Could you help? We have always heard that alcohol in skincare is an absolute no-no. But, what about organic formulations which have organic alcohol? I have been doing more research and it seems organic alcohol can actually provide benefits to the formulation and your skin. Just out of curiosity, I searched for ingredients in a couple of masks from Eminence and they both contain Benzyl Alcohol. Also, several Glymed Plus toners and gels contain SD Alcohol. As a professional, what are your thoughts?

    • @TessZolly
      @TessZolly  Před 2 lety +1

      It’s a very interesting topic. Alcohols can do a few things- act as solvents, thin out the mixture, emulsify ingredients that normally wouldn’t blend like water and oil, stabilize from unwanted reactions, improve penetration, act as a preservative or as a buffer to balance ph. So, there can be many benefits to the consumer, and there can be some cons. It depends on if it is a short chain (simple) alcohol like denatured or long chain. Short chain can have benefits too, and be very useful, although they get a bad rap in our industry bc people think it’s trying. It does evaporate readily and take water with it. But if you use a small amount, it can help with penetration, and avoid being drying! So, it’s not always black and white as we have been taught!

    Is cell protection serum or oxygen moisturizer or the acne friendly moisturizer accutane friendly ?

    A little off topic, I hope you don’t mind. Hi! I’m currently debating if I want to enroll in an esthetician program or cosmology program. The school I’m interested in told me I can do esthetician work with a cosmology license. I ultimately want to do nails and skin so I was going to do two programs (nail tech and esthetician). Can I have some insight please? Did you complete an esthetician program only? If so, did they teach you everything that you offer in your salon, or did you have to take additional courses to become certified in certain specialties?
    I’m worried that with a cosmology program I won’t leave with the same knowledge and understanding as I would if I enroll in the esthetician program. They said cosmology license holds more weight, is that true?

    • @TessZolly
      @TessZolly  Před 3 lety +4

      hi! of course i dont mind. so i feel pretty strongly that cosmos should not perform facials.the small amount of skin knowledge you are taught does not come near enough to what you need to know to treat skin conditions. So, if you want to do nails and skin, I would suggest getting both a cosmo and esthetician license- to have a respectable business and the most success!
      i think it really depends on what you want to do! if you want to really do skincare, an esthetics license holds more weight. if you want to do nails and hair, that would be cosmo!

      @sylviam1196 Před 3 lety

      @@TessZolly that’s how I was looking at it. Esthetician’s are taught more in-depth knowledge compared to the few hours that is covered by the cosmology program.
      I appreciate your in put so much! Thanks for taking the time to respond. Wishing you all the success with your business and YT channel 🤗
