- today I compare Michael Bay's Megatron to g1 Megatron, transformers animated Megatron and transformers prime Megatron to point out megatons characteristics and try to point out some of his good parts

Megatron in the 1st three movies was playing 5D chess.
He worked for the Fallen, but only to achieve power for himself. Only a Prime can defeat the Fallen, so he allied with Sentinel Prime.
Just on the off chance that the Allspark wouldn't be enough to deal with The Fallen.
Even in RotF. Assume they won for a minute. They found the Matrix and blew up the Sun. Cool.
Now Megatron can just use the matrix to revive Sentinel Prime and off the Fallen.
Probably off Sentinel too afterwards. The plan could still work.
But by movie 3 Megatron is tired and wounded from the numerous failings in his plans.

@@orion_paxx Well yeah, Megatron didn't follow The Fallen for no reason at all. Losing him right then and there was terrible.
He'd lost the Allspark, lost the Harvester mere moments ago, lost the Matrix, THEN lost the Fallen.
Megs whole plan just unravelled. All he has left is Sentinel and the pillars.. But he can't use the pillars without Sentinel, can't revive Sentinel without the Allspark or Matrix, surely The Fallen could've just made another Harvester and then they could worry about getting the Matrix back.
With the Fallen dead, all of his potential knowledge was forever lost to Megatron, and now he has his back up against the wall in this war.
Also yesterday I realised just how bad things could've gotten if Megatron won in RotF amd destroyed our Sun for energy.
Imagine if he had the Matrix, revived Sentinel, killed The Fallen, and kept the Harvester.
Now he can use Sentinels pillars to space bridge Earth to another solar system and use the Harvester to destroy another sun for energy.
Megatron would literally have a teleporting Death Star and an unlimited power supply.
I actually feel that Animated did the best job of telling us why Megatron is evil, even though the show never directly addressed it. In animated, Megatron has a clear objective of reclaiming Cybertron, which the Decepticons view as their historical and cultural home. That goal itself is not inherently evil. But, the fact that Megatron is willing to do anything necessary to accomplish that objective, even slaughtering everyone who gets in his way, makes him evil. But Animated Megatron isn't evil for the sake of being evil, he's a realistic kind of evil. Like how Stalin starved 30+ million people in order to export food and pay for construction equipment and vehicles to industrialize the USSR. Industrialization is not inherently evil, but slaughtering 30+ million to achieve it is. Liberating your home from your sworn enemy is not evil, but stealing the source of life in the universe to create an army of slaves to retake your homeland, terrorizing an innocent planet of technologically inferior aliens in the process, and commiting endless warcrimes most definitely is.
Megatron and Stalin have a lot of parallels, the only difference being Megatron leads his troops into battle himself while Stalin did not (which makes sense)

IDW2005 Megatron is basically Lenin-turned-Stalin.
And the starvation of the USSR wasn't even something they did on purpose, but its sole cause were delusions about the nature of agriculture and the fact that they wiped out the Kulaks, who were the best farmers in their nation. Keep in mind the Kulaks were not persecuted or relocated, no, the Soviets made them into an enemy because they were thriving and prosperous, and all Communistic movements exploit the jealousy of their followers to launch civil wars for the express purpose of taking everything the well-to-do have and putting them in the hands of the head robber barons. The Kulaks were EXTERMINATED, they in a matter of years went completely extinct because the Soviets took every scrap of food they had, and told the masses to kill them because they were greedy.
The starvation of the USSR was merely a side-effect of the stupid bigotry of the communists
I agree, Animated Megatron was also a menacing schemer much like G1, but was more than capable of throwing down when he did mobilize. And the man doing his voice acting was a solid, solid choice. His cold, menacing delivery makes Animated my favorite Megatron after the classic G1 voice of Frank Welker.
Megatron does have some interesting character development after dark of the moon. He's less of a tyrant and more of a depressed loner who lost everything and only wants his world back and no more war

The reason why Megatron had the Predacons was because of an experiment Shockwave was working on, and wished to utilize the new tool at his (Megatron's) disposal.
I do agree Aligned/Prime was the best incarnation.

I feel like Bayverse Megatron was trying to have depth, but it kept getting undermined by Bay's hackiness as a director.
Like, I'm pretty sure they were trying to create an angle of "The Decepticons are actually trying to save Cybertron and their species" during Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon, but the idea wasn't permitted to grow at all.
Because Bay is a hack.

i do feel however that Bay has grown tired of making Transformers ever since the 3rd movie. I recall he pretty much said that he doesn't want to make a new movie after the 1st one.

The biggest example of how Bay hamstrung the films and characters is obvious as early as the first movie.
Which character in the first TF film...
A: Has a backstory
B: Has a history and demonstrates knowledge about cars
C: Has a character arc through the film
If you answered "Mikaela" you are correct.
Now look at how Bay shoots Mikaela's character and chooses to focus on Sam as the protagonist instead, despite Sam clearly not being intended by the screenplay to be the main character.
"Auteur" directors like Bay have a lot of control over how the final product turns out.
For the record: Sam as presented by Bay is how Bay sees fans of Transformers. It's actually pretty insulting, considering how pathetic he is.

Megatron's character in the 1st movie is kind of the best vershion of him in all the film's....Not only is he Massive and a major threat but also he's not bossed around by any other transfomer because as we know Megatron answers to no one....But the best version's of him are from Animated and the aligned continuity in general
Megatron in the first movie was an absolute menace I hate how they made him so submissive in the 2nd/3rd movie. His presence loomed over the entire first movie and when he was freed you could see why he was so feared among both the autobots/deceptions.

I like to think that the Big plan in the three movies, was to use the all spark and the sun energy extractor to revive Cybertron once sentinel got the planet in earth orbit, but they failed because Megatron freeze, the Decepticons on earth doesn't found the matrix and Sentinel ship was destroyed.
I feel like this title is kinda misleading. It feels more like a review of all the other Megatrons and less about Bay Megatron. I was expecting the final portion to be more of a comparison.
I also agree. Meg’s characterization definitely suffered because the writers clearly didn’t plan the whole thing ahead of time, especially with Megs’ multiple schemes.
Personally, wasn’t a fan of Bay Galvatron at all because all that lead up of him tricking the humans into getting the Seed and him having no spark ultimately didn’t go anywhere. I also agree that he really felt more like Megatron than G1’s Galvatron. I did like how he acted after he lost, really did give G1 Megs Saturday morning cartoon vibes. Same with him retreating in TLK.
That said, I actually really liked TLK Megs not just in appearance but with how he appears to soften a bit. It almost feels like he’s a tired old vet who just wants Cybertron back.

The biggest problem with megatron in the movies was that after the first movie he got sidelined everytime in favor of another villain
True, they couldn't let him go cause he's iconic yet wanted to keep things fresh, in ROTF you could argue that he was still very active and relevant more than Fallen actually, DOTM man was all beat up but still ended up playing a very important role, AOE it was cleary more of a set up for Galvatron that never went anywhere, because since the fans hated him, they literally brought back Megs once again, nullifying all the build up to Galvatron
0:56 Well, the reason why he didn’t…is because every time he tried, he always failed. So he decided to go into hiding on Earth. He and his other Decepticons wanted to rebuild their own planet since it was dying out a lot. He tried to make a deal with Sentinel and they both agreed about the plan. I don’t know what time that took place though.
Not only was the menacing teeth a nice touch, but the jet alt mode was just right.
Something i like about this Meg is him trying to make up for what he did, he was always after this in every movie, infact Megs development is quite the case, cause while Prime gets darker and darker, Megs gets softer and softer, until we have the best showcase of development between the relationship of Prime and Megs in TLK compared to 2007:

Megatron has always been a good villain and a formidable threat in every transformers continuity. This includes the Michael Bay films, but with each passing film, Megatron loses more of his credibility.
In the first Bay film, despite being frozen for most of the film, Megatron continues to be built up as a threat. By the time Megatron officially comes out to fight, his threat becomes very real. He killed Jazz and had the advantage over Optimus Prime for most of their fight. Even though Sam ultimately killed Megatron , it doesn't diminish his threat because Sam used the allspark to do it.
In revenge of the fallen, bringing Megatron back definitely increases the threat level of the deceptions, but revealing Megatron to be the servant of someone else diminishes Megatron as a threat. He does get points for killing Optimus Prime in the film though, even if Optimus defeated him and the fallen in the end with the upgrade he received from Jetfire.
Dark of the moon is really what starts to ruin Megatron in this film franchise. Even though Megatron convinced Sentinel Prime to defect from the autobots, Sentinel treated Megatron like second best, with Megatron just taking it. The film got it right that Megatron doesn't play second fiddle to anyone, and how Megatron is responsible for Sentinel Prime's defeat. Then they had an injured one armed Optimus Prime kill Megatron in 15 seconds. More of Megatron's credibility is lost.
Age of extinction, Megatron is reborn as Galvatron, but is reduced to being the secondary villain of the film. After that, Galvatron goes back to being Megatron in the last knight, and once again works for someone else. Megatron is handled better in this film and is ultimately defeated by Optimus Prime. Hopefully if there's a next film, Megatron will be handled better.

Boy has multiple meanings depending on the context but in the film it's purely used as showing inferiority because humans are seen as lesser and weaker beings

Your point about the decepticons being warriors if I am recalling correctly on cybertron the society was split between the lower class bots built for heavy duty work hence why they are larger and stronger than most autobots who were medics or scientists. I know in some Megatron is a gladiator but not sure about all the decepticons
The Decepticons varied between lower class bots, and lowly criminals. In IDW Megatron was a Miner before fighting in the Kaon Underground.

I honestly forgot megatrons role in The Last Knight, I remember his design and the weird deception suicide squad but I really dont remember him having an actual impact on the story
Personally I think the last knight should’ve been about The Creators, Nemisis Prime and The Broken down faction called the decepticons.
I understand bay wanted to go all out but having the dragons and all this knight stuff rlly made the film confusing and took away from what I think the film should’ve been about.
The relationship between Optimus and Megatron. There was one line in TLK that got my brain going. It’s where he said “I want what anyone wants, to go home.”
In my mind this implies he understands the fact that the decepticons basically lost. They are powerless and having the decepticons in the 5th film just be made out of criminals is an interesting idea that went nowhere.
What does Megatron think after he’s lost 4 times to the autobots even with his superiority complex from the first film. The 5th film could’ve showed how Megatron doesn’t want the war anymore, showing him accept the L and just wanting cybertron back. Obviously he would need to do something horrific to bring it back to life and the autobots have to stop him ect. But it’s all right there.
But yet again it’s bay. I love the films but man so much unused potential in favor of mindless action.
Something I think could’ve been fun but rlly wild would be the concept of Megatron needing to team up with the autobots in order to defeat Nemisis Prime. The Bee v Nemisis prime fight was weak asl and served nothing. Having Megatron realize that his main goal needs to change from wanting to go home to stopping Nemisis prime from basically being MK11 Raiden could’ve been interesting. Also could’ve explored the thought of Bee being a leader of the autobots since Optimus departure. What does Bee think about teaming up with the group he’s been fighting for eons? So much potential
You know, you compared Nemesis Prime to MK11 Dark Raiden and I see you too noticed some of the many similarities MK11 and TLK have in terms of story and concept, but also in terms of quality and wasted potential.

I don’t really feel like TLK Megs accepts that the Decepticons lost, more like that he’s grown tired of the fighting and just wants Cybertron back.
With that said, completely agree with what you were saying. As the trailers being released for the movie hyped me up, I really did think that was how it was going to go, with Megs teaming up with humans against Nemesis for Cybertron. It’s part of why I was so disappointed with TLK.

But literally what was the writer’s room supposed to do if they didn’t get these things right? The writer’s room was completely useless cuz they ignored so much of the previous story, not to mention a lot of them even had their current alt modes visible in the pictures.
Agreed with the Decepticons. I thought it was neat how Megs retreated like it was G1 but almost all of the new Decepticons died worthlessly.

The fact you didn't even mention Beast Wars Megatron is sad, because he is by far the most evil and most competent Megatron out of all.
Tho he doesn't really have an impact on the Bayverse Megatron so it's understandable why you didn't mention it.
Since that takes place in the G1 timeline, he's technically a completely different character, just with the same name.
Most evil? Yes.
Most competent? No.
Design-wise, I feel Bay's Megaron looked best in the fifth movie, with that big-ass sword 😊

Megatron in TF 1 was such an IMPONENT BEAST he seemed unstoppable and scary a menacing villain, then ROTF happened.....
Having a Megatron that slowly lost his drive to fight would’ve been an interesting arc over the first three movies, however it’s unfortunate that Bay chose to go in a different and ultimately less satisfying direction in Dark of The Moon after the leaks

I was gonna make a video about how starscream in the MB films is not starscream (which i still am) but I also wanted to do a transformers villain rank I put him at number 3 because like I said ever since the first film he's just been sidelined Megatron is a tyrannical leader that in some incarnation sees himself as a hero he's the most iconic 80s cartoon villain and this is how you treat him?
I grew up and love the Bayverse but they kind of screwed his character especially when they turned Galvatron back into Megatron offscreen, they had so many opportunities but never got around it.

I’m a Bayformers fan but that’s not really a good argument. G1 Megs basically is doing the same thing.
It’s true that megaton’s character took a nosedive after TF4 but his design for TF5 was superior to all his other forms in the movie as he’s not just an array of spikes and scrap metal strapped together, but has actual armour plating covering his mechanical components like the autobots. Also the bot form loses like a more knightly variant of the bot form of megaton in TF Prime, one of his best designs
I don't really get the point about Megatron calling Sam a boy being Racist, Optimus and Bumblebee have both called Sam boy too, so does that mean they are Racists too?
I believe he’s just trying to say that paired with Megatron’s other behavior, him calling Sam a boy is meant as degradation, especially since he thinks humans as inferior.

I never liked transformers animated but animated Megatron was absolute perfection! My favorite megatron is actually TFP megatron. These two incarnations were pure gold!
They must be desperate to kill off Optimas Prime in the 1986 transformers movie....Because in the season 2 episode of transformers with the origen of Optimas Prime we know he can take megatron's giant plasma cannon to the chest and not be affected....And then in the movie a tiny laser gets him in the side and damages Optimas to the extreme

2:30 probably allready was stated but to cite the source your thinking of. One of the G1 cartoon backstories from I believe the episode Five Faces of Darkness had the desepticons being Military hardware robots who were rebeling against the autobots. And, thats why the Decepticons were tanks and planes while the Autobots made their alt forms cars and more civilion technology to hide from the massive millitary threat that was the Decepticons.

Animated Megatron: Wanted to reclaim Cybertron for the Decepticon cause and maybe if the show continued we could have seen him moving away from just that idea. We started seeing it at the end of season 3. But maybe he could have begun to tocue on Optimus more. Maybe a new war starts and things could have escalated from there.
Bay Megatron: Shown to be scary but died way too many times. Or just straight up lost like a bitch. Yes the main villain can lose against the hero. But maybe let him win. Or at least retreat with it being more of a tie. Then age of extinction told us of a idea but backtracked in the final movie
G1 Megatron: He is what you'd call evil. He may have lost but he kept going at Optimus. Yes the show was corny but it still gave us a Megatron who was just evil at heart.
Armada Megatron: A War that just became more about Megatron and Optimus. That's how things ended up. Megatron started relying upon Optimus which leads to them respecting each other but fighting in the end.
RID Megatron: I don't remember much about this Megatron sadly. But i got a autograph of the Optimus Prime Voice actor of the show
IDW Megatron: Turned to War for his cayse. But overtime things changed. Morals changed. And you start to forget who you are anymore. And in the end. Was it worth it?The thousands dead in front of him. And in the end he switches sides and he wonders if all the lives he took or not just he took. But the lives that fought for him was all wasted.
Spark Megatron: No clue about him. I've just heard he does the same thing as IDW Megatron but very VERY early.
Prime Megatron: A pettiness he took and brought war. This eventually once again like IDW Megatron changed him. And over the course of the series just seems like he'll never change. Until he dies and finally changes. And gives everything up and i wish it was followed up on.
Cyberverse Megatron: I mostly know he's more of the generic Megatron. But i never finished the show. So all i know is that he's VERY generic. More than G1 Megatron.
Cybertron Megatron: His pettiness starts the war and he even poisons Cybertron to finally end the Autobots. But it only backfires and destroys Cybertron. With that he blames Optimus for EVERYTHING he does. The murder, the poisoning Cybertron’s core, the torture, the constant warfare. He blames all of his own crimes onto Optimus. In the end he nearly dies. But he's brought back thanks to Soundwave and is ONLY ready for revenge against Optimus. Following him to the stars they leave Cybertron to never return. Right?

G1 wants to drain earth to repower Cybertron and revitalise the dying species. He's not in depth but he has a motivation.

Michael Bay had no concept of how to make a movie plot. All he's good at is special effects.
You criticize the plot in the first few minutes of the video about everything happening to Earth, and I think you're looking at it wrong. A good way to look at it is that in most TF universe the Cybertronians are fated to come to Earth, whether searching for resources, an object arriving here, or something more ancient like Unicron. For the movies Earth being Unicron I think lends credence to this idea. Loo at it this way, we know Primus exists as Cybertron, Whatever the origins for the Cybertronians, I thin Primus guided their creation like in most fiction to be a ready army to face Unicron if he ever awakens. We could say maybe the Creators used the Seeds on Earth as it being Unicron might mean materials on Earth were prefect for making Transformium, thus they collected it, and Primus used the Allspark to create the Primes, they explored and arrived on Earth, the IDW movie comics seem to suggest the Allspark told the Fallen to destroy Earth, it could be Primus telling him this, eventually the Primes fell, Quintessa might have ruled CYbertron for some reason at some point, the Knights stole her staff and arrived on Earth, AKA Unicron. Megatron finds the Fallen and is probably told of the Star Harvester, the war breaks out, Cybertron is devastated, and I believe Sentinel and Megatron figure out a plan to find the Star Harvester and activate it, this would in turn serve the Fallen's goals, Thus I think Sentinel was sort of a pawn. Thus he tries to go to Earth but a missal damages the Ark, and according to extra material the Space Bridge activated, sending the ship randomly jumping through space, eventually arriving near it's intended destination, but on the Moon. When the Autobots launch the Allspark into space I think it purposefully landed on Earth because it was Unicron. SO far every thing makes sens why it's on Earth, because Earth is Unicron, much like how in Prime a tone of things also happen on Earth. It's simply Megatron carryng out his master's plan, find the Harvester, activate it, restore Cybertron, maybe kill Unicron. But as we see his plan needs to be altered, first the Allspark is destroyed and it's simply use the Harvester to make more Energon for the hatchlings, and bonus of Humanity's extinction. Then Megatron plans to use Sentinel's Space Bridge to bring Cybertron to Earth and strip it's resources to rebuild, then with Last Knight it makes sense to ally with Quintessa as she claims she can drain Unicron of his energy to restore Cybertron. Of course Megs would agree. His whole character arc has been him wanting to strengthen CYbertron, first through conquest, but when the war devastates their home, his focus is on restoring Cybertron, no matter what.

bro, I still hate how Megatron was killed in DOTM, he could easily win against Optimus, even after the first axe hit, but writters decided otherwise, even defeating Optimus but then being killed by the rest of the autobots would've been better
Tbf DOTM Megatron is basically a cripple in all but name so Prime merking him was unsurprising, just disappointing

A Prime gone rouge was nice but I feel like it was executed semi-poorly
Aoe is just tf1 with new paint I have no fucking clue why they did galvatron just to go back to Megatron
TLK is dotm but he's accepted his failures and just wants to get home

you claim he's shown to be menacing.. by killing a helpless cybertronian crawling away? the first thing we learn about him is that he crash landed. wow how competent. great first thing to show us. and that he was looking for the allspark which was in usa and yet he managed to crash in the arctic circle. also the allspark emits so much radiation it needs 4 football fields to hide it's signature yet megatron landed half the world apart. okay. and future movies make it worse since as far as I remember megatron is the only character to ever crash land.
we then find out he's been frozen in the humans basement how intimidating. and he's the only reasons humans have the technology to defeat transformers. what a joke.

then when he actually wakes up the first thing he does is yell at starscream... who just destroyed the humans method of manually refreezing megatron. wow. totally doesn't make megatron look like a child. and he yells at starscream calling him a failure for not pursuing the allspark.. when he's just as capable of doing so and arrives late in the city and I could swear megatron is supposed to be the leader of the decepticons. I guess not.
when he arrives to the city he could have beat all the autobots but no grabs the smallest one who's smaller than a baby next to him and flies off fleeing. he doesn't give any guidance to his dececpticons who besides starscream are going around slicing apart cars or being useless, and he doesn't grab the allspark when he can. he's a pathetic dumb villain a horrible leader and sucks trash
