That was the best interior layout/infotainment for BMW. Im not crazy about 1 giant screen for everything.
The new dashboards look like extremely low effort. BMW could have paid me half whatever they gave their interior designers to place a giant rectangle on the dash and saved some money.
@@OnTheRocks71 A lot of cars are looking bad with the giant screen, specially they way it's placed. The previous gen S-Class was the best way of doing 'two' big screens without making it look basic.

B48 is defs a sweet spot, it’s still more than quick enough but u can actually enjoy all the power and get some good mpg still 😂, good on ya bro

Picked up my 2024 Z4 m40i two weeks ago, and I have never loved something as much as I love this car.
Got it in thundernight (purple) metallic as well with cognac interior, and people seem to love the combo.
Live in SoCal so the top is down all the time when I drive it. FANTASTIC CAR!!!

I got an E85 Z4 6-speed that’s my daily….
Brings a tear to my eye that the Z4 is still out there killing it, even if super underrated.
I agree - my neighbour sold his 2003 911 and bought one of these... and he loves it, as does his wife, who never drove the Porsche but now drives the Z4 even more than he does. His brother has a new SL and side by side, the Z4 makes the M-B SL look flabby and poorly proportioned - dorky even. I think it's the best looking sports car on sale today.
Stoked that they announced a manual for this car for 2024, and supposedly it's not rubbery like most BMW manuals - I'd love to see you guys review the manual version when it drops!
Yeah it sounds like it is very similar to the Supra manual, and much better than the manual in the 2 series
Just picked up a low mileage 2021 M40i, great car and nice to see it still getting praise years after its release.
After my generation z4 this is the only one I like!

I rarely see Z4s on the road, and I’m in South Florida (definitely a target market). But when I do, I know the driver knows what’s up. Totally underrated car. And I’d buy one of these over a Supra any day. This is just a slightly better Supra without the Fuckboy vibes and the additional option of dropping the top (convertibles are also underrated and used to be more popular).
it's a great looking car. I only found out about it because I was playing Forza and I was looking at the engine and was like "hey it's got the b58tu".
God, it would be amazing if we could get a proper Z4M with a DCT and S58.
downpipe, tune, KW ddc, heat exchanger, trans cooler, lpfp and a pure 800 would make it an M car.
I appreciate you guys reviewing this thing and giving it the props it deserves. It's criminally underrated, but there's a manual coming!

These are a great used buys today as not generally used as daily cars so in many cases low milage even in 2019 cars

I have a 2020 and I eat most American muscle almost every single time. I live in North Florida with a whole lot of good ol boys in their challengers, mustangs etc. the look on their face when they get smoked like a cheap cigar was worth the price of the car

As an owner of a Misano blue Z4 with a Pure850 turbo making 700whp, I would say extremely underrated car. There's no other car in which you enjoy the B58 experience as much

Until 2013, they were still great cars with none of the DI turbo issues and hydraulic steering racks. Grab a used one like I did and cherish it.
I love what they did with the grill way back in the early 2000s when I used to like BMW that’s the direction I thought they would take was continually make the kidney grill narrower and wider to give the car presence, sleekness, wide low hung look never did I dream there would be those chipmunk teeth on the other vehicles.
I own an M40i and it is an absolute blast ! The back can be a bit lively. I popped out for groceries tonight, it was 7C temperature here in the UK. Michelin Pilot Super Sports and low temperatures are an interesting combination. I had it sliding several times, but it is safe and fun !
A mid engine b58 sports car would be so sick😢

Being a 22yr old that has loved bmw for many years now and worked for them for awhile I think that new G42 M240 is the hottest 2 door bmw has right now, even more so than the m2, I think the triangular designs are more attractive and aggresive looking than the square designs on the m2 that look blocky and unlike previous models like 335,340,440,f22 m240 the new G42 M240 has a wide curvy rear end like M cars, I was so curious what the m2 was gonna look like before it was revealed for this reason but turns out they just pronounced it even more. Still looks great on the g42 m240 though makes it have way more aggressive presence than any M lite before. I also am obsessed with All Wheel Drive and in that light small car, then you put a simple catless downpipe and tune for 500hp and you’re in for a crazy ride. The thundernight metallic paint looks great on both the m240 and z4, I totally don’t own a purple on oyster g42 m240 and this is not biased at all 🥱
Hey man. My first car I bought was a 2015 m235i when I was 21. I remember liking BMWs cuz I was in high school back when you were 7-8 years old and my friend was driving an 08 328i.
Around that time is when the 4 series came out and so did the M4. I wanted and could afford the M4 but my dealer didn't have it and he had really convinced me of the M235i. I bought it and then realized the M235i was the number 1 car on car and driver magazine (the TOP AND NUMBER 1 CAR MAGAZINE EVER FOR DECADES) number 1 on the top 10 BEST list from 2015 to 2017. You can't imagine wanting an M4 to be a poser but choose the sensible M235i only to find out it was NUMBER 1 for 3 years IN A ROW (which even in 2015 I knew my car was voted number 1 and it just felt awesome) all of those years which I owned it. Got rid of it in 2018 and magically it was nowhere to be found in the top 10.
Got out of cars for a while and came back trying to stupidly get a 2021 M240i lease takeover right as the M240i was 7 years old and it's life was done. But then out of nowhere I saw a car I never ever knew existed, and for a phenomenal price for a lease takeover. A black z4 m40i with magma red interior and all blacked out on the outside. Holy fk it was the MOST BEAUTIFUL AND STUNNING car I had ever seen of a BMW. It fixed EVERYTHING I HATED looks wise about my 235i. The front looks better, the headlights, the side profiles, but I especially HATED the m235i rear (the M2 Comp was decent thoigh and the best looking F series 2 series they came out with), and the z4 fixed that with the sexiest tail lights and an aggressive back with a quasi diffuser but not really, just sharp and aggressive and interior is stunning my ex wife's panties dropped so hard when she sat in my new z4 compared to my 235i we would drive in. I only got 2 or 3 compliments on my 235i and only when it was brand new. To this day nearly 3 years later I get about a compliment per day on my z4 (though I don't drive it much anymore no more than 20-30 miles a week). In one day I got 6 compliments in 2 hours. I let my family drive it they come back telling me they had multiple people even COPS stop to compliment the car. It also sounds well and is phenomenal. I agree the new M2 sucks, you want the best M2 get the M2 Comp, but I'm not happy with the new M240i either. For one, it's not on any top 10 list, like it's predecessor was for 3 years in a ROW and deservedly do, and it's not that pretty or unique to look at and kind of ruined why the M235i was voted number 1. But I get it your still young man. You need the extra seats but also want a nice coupe for the ladies. You can't take friends in an emergency in a z4. But then again, I don't want anyone ruining my back seats anyway lol. Plus I'm 30 now, and a pilot. Driving doest feel special anymore when you cruise over the normies and watch them stuck in traffic as you fly past them at over 105 knots indicated airspeed, or 142 knots groundspeed with good winds, that translates to 163 mph flying over you lol while normies below are going 5mph lol (but the actual "speedometer" aka airspeed indicator in my plane shows 105 and it's in nautical miles per hour not mph, and it has nothing to do with your speed over the ground, so while it shows 105 I'm really doing 140-170mph over you depending on winds, it's confusing I know that's why the stscks of books worth of knowledge and rules needed to become a pilot are in the thousands of pages worth of rules and material to know before your certified to fly lol)😂🎉
So glad you guys reviewed the Z4. It is at the top of my list for my next ride. I really wish roadsters would make a comeback in the US.

Excellent presentation, in addition to the excellent engine, gearbox and chassis, I like this central console much more than the newer screens!
It's interesting to see everyone realizing the previous gen bmw interior/ infotainment was the sweet spot. It's just a shame bmw hasn't realized that. I have zero complaints about the I Drive 7 in my Zupra, and 8 would stop me from considering a new bmw.

Agree..bought our x3 M40i with idrive 7 before it got the "updated" iDrive 8 massive video screen...don't need iMax in my vehicle and much prefer tactile buttons to touch screens. The pending demise of the z4 with reported March 2026 EOP has me thinking strongly about ordering the z4.
If GR Supra is for the cold, this Zupr4 is for the hot ones.
I want to see this in an RF/Targa variant.
This year I went from a 2015 JCW 2.0 to a 2001 BMW Z3 2.0 with a hardtop. The car is almost as old as me and I love it. The Zs have always looked good to me
Just put Continental all season contacts all round on my Hyundai i20N. Pirelli Pzero were unbeatable in the dry summer - but the fronts only lasted 7.5k miles. For real. Went all seasons to pretend it’s a rally car 😊
I trully believe that a purple with red interior z40i is the best truest and most beautiful bmw you can buy. And with a couple of mods its a proper weapon.

My M40i has Bootmod3 tune, XHP, Eibach springs, fast road alignment, sports cat, Remus exhaust, Enkei wheels, Eventuri intake, Audiotec Fischer sound system and more.
It’s faster, more comfortable, handles and sounds better than its already brilliant stock setup.
@@Largeone1968 ac snicher has a pack with suspension exhaust intake and tune. 400hp. Totally worth it and its not very expensive

Just drove an M40i top down & all I can say is just buy it, not a fan of convertibles, but you hardly notice it, what an engine though.

Steering is bad until you switch lane departure warning off (that one that nudges you back) and then it's quite good.

Regarding steering correction.
I experienced it at once when I test drove a manual gearbox Z4 20i from 2022 last monday. Beautiful blue with red seats.
I personally quickly got used to correcting the steering, but this was only a 1-hour test ride. Maybe in the long run I would also get tired of correcting, as he in the yellow rain jacket said.
Going to order a 2025 Z4 M40i by Monday.
Still haven't decided on a color.. ...

Farenheit is best because it is a lot better at 'describing' how it feels, 0 degrees is REALLY cold and 100 degrees is REALLY hot. you just need to know that 32 is the freezing point. plus it gives you better control on an AC. for example 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit all ranges from 20-22 degrees celsius but that's a big difference in how it feels in your house/car.

@@illuminate4 Only reason they're bothering with a manual is because Toyota did the R&D to make it happen. Would be surprised if they use softer bushings and noise dampening to give it that classic direct-but-lifeless BMW feel

Engine was remarkably good and worked really well. Just collected a new 40i. In red (as before). Love it to bits for all the reasons you say. But I keep the traction control on. Always ! I don’t mind it, but I like the squared off look I guess. The back is the weakest part of it for me, but I still like it overall. Looks way better than the M3/M4 if u ask me.

The numb feeling on center and when steering back to center is the reason I havne't bought one yet... soooo frustrating BMW didn't fix this issue as part of the mid-cycle refresh.

My favorite mode is S for sequential? Put the car in Sport individual and push the gear lever to the left and keep it there, don't use any paddle or it will go into M for manual. I thought it would be the same as Sport Individual but it's not, you can tell the difference.
Great car. I like that this car doesn’t get BMW’s full attention because then they would ruin the looks and the interior. Since this is tried and tested, I wonder if its going to be reliable? Might be the true gem of BMW.
BMW is aiming at an older demographic with this car. Credit to them for knowing Boomers and Generation X won't buy a car with beaver teeth no matter how well the car drives.

Pretty cool when I figured out in my Miata that if on the highway in rain no issue the rain just flies off the windshield. I like this BMW my wife is always after me because the Miata is a stick so I said if I replace this car I have to get a Z4.

I have the G42 2022 M240i xDrive with the same infotainment layout (except I managed to get normal digital gauge clusters instead of the backwards ones in this car) and it is by far the best car I've ever owned/driven

I sold my GR Supra 3.0 Premium for an ND2 Miata. No regrets. Miata is always the answer 🗿
After renting a Supra on Turo and taking it through canyon roads, I still ended up with a 23’ BRZ. The Supra is definitely faster and gets more attention, but the BRZ is more fun to drive on paper, especially with a manual.

I had an M235i back in early 2015 when it came out. I wanted a 335 like a typical person since 2010 because my friend in high school had a 07 328. Then the M4 came out and I wanted that. But dealer convinced me to look and test drive the M235i, didn't even know it existed. Liked it, got it instead of M4, and what do you know Car and Driver magazine rated the M235i NUMBER 1 car for many years in a row and then when the M2 came out the M2 was number one. It looks so good. But after 2018, I got rid of my M235i cuz of lease, and forgot ALL about cars especially BMW. One day in 2021 I wanted to takeover a lease of a M240i again, and randomly saw this BMW, that looked so good, and I had no fkn idea what it was, beautiful black with some nice mods, and red interior. The lease amount was only like $750/month. It was the Z4 M40i. Didn't even know it existed. I fell in love. Went to see it and my god, dude asked me to drive it but I said no (even thoigh I really wanted to but didn't want to look like that guy who test drives and doesn't buy), but he insisted so I did. Man what a beauty. It literally fixed EVERYTHING I HATED about the M235i I had. It looks good. The form, shape, and rear especially are amazing. m235i rear was butt ugly. So I got it, and of course a friend crashed it.😢 few months later went and bought a lightly used alpine white with red interior z4 m40i and STILL have it. Every day peolle compliment me. One day I got 6 compliments in 2 hours. It just looks like nothing else, handles FAAAR better then any M2, F80 series M cars I've driven, wide tires, seated right by rear axle. And a quick tune and e85 you're looking at over 430-450 whp and definitely 500 wtq. Heck even stock its 400wtq and 380whp, but it looks BETTER than ANY new BMW. Look at the ugly new M2, the ultra wide M4, and then look at this. Absolute stunner.

Whenever I see people easily mention chronically prescribed drugs, as if it's normal for young peolle to be prescribed meds every month, I think that person only brought it up cuz theyre on meds? Are you? But anyway. Yea the Z4 is amazing. I have black wheels but the rim line is yellow and looks awesome, plus black kidneys and black m style mirrors. Car looks 3 times more faster/expensive Than it is

just very, very, very, VERY RECENTLY, BMW has finally dropped the 6-speed manual Z4 M40i which will be honored as the very last Manual inline 6 BMW ever! People should save up and scoop one while you can!
Think I’d still get a Boxster S for all the extra space - better to cross country.
