  • We purchased their 2015 Entegra Aspire from a dealership that pre-wired ethernet wire to the roof. The installer ran the wires without properly sealing them and without leaving an option to add future wires. In this video we install a roof mounted wiring box with waterproof cable glands suitable for ethernet, cable tv, solar and more. Read the full article here: livinlite.net/roof-box

    How is that UTP holding up under the sun? Unless it's in conduit, the coating will break down under UV, might need to replace it with outdoor/burial cat6 cable?

    How do you determine where to install the box on the roof?

    I would have used outdoor rated / direct burial ethernet cable for the outdoor runs. The ultraviolet light will shorten the life of the cable tremendously.

    • @LivinliteNet1
      @LivinliteNet1  Před 5 lety

      Hi! That was outdoor rated but not burial rated as that wouldn’t fit in the WiFi Ranger housing but regardless i completely agree on using outdoor cable and burial rated if you can make it fit.

    I've seen other guys use double sided eternabond to hold down junction boxes. You'd likely never get the box off again but you sure wouldn't have any concerns about it moving.

    I noticed in video you haven’t put silicone on the screws of the box or around the seal i have installed lots of those boxes as an electrician after time I have went back for one reason or another and noticed water in the box you might consider silicone

    • @LivinliteNet1
      @LivinliteNet1  Před 5 lety

      thanks KD, these newer boxes have the screw heads on the outside of the rubber seals now, probably as a result of exactly what your thinking. I'll keep folks posted on how we do without sealing the screws. A big part of this is being able to easily open the box and add wires/service over time but we'll keep that in mind and let you know how the seals hold up in the sun over time. We picked up 2 spare boxes so we had replacement covers (and new seals) if we see signs of it failing.

    You should use CAT7 wire. Much better for data and fast internet

    • @VoIPPortland
      @VoIPPortland Před 4 lety +1

      Completely overkill for these short hops. CAt6, yes. Even Cat5e would be fine for gb. 35+ years experience here. He isn't building an enterprise server rack haha. Also mod Cat6 couplers and two male end built cord ends might make for a cleaner inside the box connection vs the keystone/other jack. But all in all he did great.

    Nice video. At 8:44 are you dicoring a cable clip which was nailed/screwed into the roof?
    If the dealer did not install the cable through the roof would you have ran the cable through the fridge vent? Maybe electrical noise from the fridge would cause problems for the cables.

    • @LivinliteNet1
      @LivinliteNet1  Před 5 lety +1

      Fridge vent is a great solution for most trailers and rv's however our coach is all electric so we have a residential fridge and no vent for the propane fridge :( - We did run wires this way in our solar video we did for Erik's dad though located here if you want details on running wires though the fridge vent czcams.com/video/FJA8VcWQ7bo/video.html

    • @LivinliteNet1
      @LivinliteNet1  Před 5 lety +1

      also yes we are applying dicor to a screw clip as that was already there from the dealer so we retained that screw/clip for our wire management since the hole was already there.

    • @knutblaise9437
      @knutblaise9437 Před 5 lety

      Nice install on Erik's dad's RV. Have there been any problems with the $200 charge controller?

    • @LivinliteNet1
      @LivinliteNet1  Před 5 lety +1

      We did have an issue we are pretty sure thats because it got wet in the battery bay one day unfortunately. We replaced it and have been doing good, definitely not an Outback Flex grade solution but for the price it wasnt bad for an entry level MPPT. If I did it again i'd probably only do 3 panels as 4 in direct summer sun is pushing that controller beyond what it was designed for (using a 12v battery bank).
