  • Eric from TechnoRV Shows you how to run a WiFi or Cell Booster antenna cable through your RV slide while using the TechnoRV Suction Cup Antenna Mount. Temporary and quick, this allows you to skip the part where you drill holes in your RV to mount an external antenna.

    Definitely useful - going full-time in a week and trying to decide how I want to run cable. Likely will do it your way.

    Thanks Eric. Simple but very useful info.

    I was going to mount a roof antenna but it would be a pain as I would have to remove it when traveling. I was searching for a video about running wires through the bath vent when I came across this video. What a great solution! I ordered the suction cup mount and am looking forward to this very easy solution. Prior to ordering, I inspected the slide seals and found them to be very pliable and will have no issues whatsoever with a Cat5e cable. Thanks again for an easier solution to what I was going to do.

    This is really helpful! The media cabinet in our new 5th wheel is in the slideout and I don't want to drill into the roof and figure out how to get it to the slideout. I'm gonna give this a shot!

      Thanks! It sounds like it might work.

    Gonna do that! I just purchased a satellite for my RV & was wondering where I could simply run the rg6 cable into the camper & straight to the satellite receiver. Gonna try it tomorrow if I get a chance. Thank u for posting! Happy camping 🏕!

    Thanks for the demo. Any chance you guys could also put out something that shows what you've done on the inside?

    • @Technorv

      We will put that on the list of videos to make. Thanks for the suggestion!

  • @tenkaraintheiowadriftless

    Eric, thanks for your demo. What is the length and diameter of your PVC pipe, and how does the configuration you show at 0:31 hold up in the wind?

    • @Technorv
      @Technorv  Před 5 lety

      The PVC is a schedule 40, 1-inch by 5-foot pole. We've kept it up like in the video in some pretty bad winds to see what it would do. We wouldn't advise the same, but it did hold up in 35-40 mph winds.

    Can you leave the cable in when you close the slide? I am running cat 5 for the internet at a location I will be for a couple of months but like to close the slide when we leave the camper for a couple of days at a time.

    • @Technorv
      @Technorv  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Callie, when you close the slide you would want to remove the cable first. I hope this helps. Eric

    Will putting the slide back in after you run the cable through it pinch the cable at all? I want to do this with a Cat5 cable.

    • @Technorv
      @Technorv  Před 3 lety +1

      I recommend making sure that the cable is not too low on the slide where there may be mechanical parts. As far as pinching, I have not seen that. You may take it slow the first time or use a sample piece, but I know there are tons of people doing this and I have not heard of any issues with pinching.

    Is running the cable through the slide a suitable permanent install option for those of us unwilling to drill a new hole?

    • @Technorv
      @Technorv  Před 4 lety

      The suction mount is not a permanent install option. It would need to be taken down before travel.

    For a cellular weBoost looking at attacking to ladder and running through slide permanently. Would that work?

    • @Technorv
      @Technorv  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Joseph, I see where the company Weboost had a video where they did run a cable in permanently. If you attached it to the ladder and then ran it across the roof to get to the slide and then just make sure there are no mechanical parts where you run the cable into that could damage it. I think this would work fine
      Eric.

    My Airstream travel trailer doesn't have a slide.

    • @Technorv
      @Technorv  Před 6 lety +1

      We have many users of the suction cup mount that have Airstreams and put the cable through a window. One Airstream owner we know ran his cable through his wet bay, I believe. We have the pics on our Faccebook if you are interested.

    That can’t be good for the gasket long term. Why not do it properly and install a roof mount? More work up front but saves a lot of goofing around and inevitable gasket damage every time you move.

    • @Technorv
      @Technorv  Před 5 lety +2

      Thanks for your comment! Permanently mounting an antenna (or anything on the roof) is something a lot of people aren't interested in doing we've found, plus with a WiFi booster, you don't need it all the time so mounting it temporarily works. With the suction cup mount, you can get it higher than you could with a permanent mount which is always better! As far as the gaskets go, we've been using the suction mount as full time RVers for over 2 years with no problems. We always recommend inspecting the slides regularly though... even without the mount!

      I suppose that if the slide gasket is thick enough and the gasket is not too old compression-set of the sealing surface shouldn’t be much of an issue. Thanks for the real life info and the feed back on comments, much appreciated.....
