      I still have to finish at least one of my existing campaigns before getting another, so not right now, but it has cute pictures.

      All in, I've seemingly found my niche for games. These sprawling RPG's are my type of game. I love Tainted Grail, can't wait for that campaign to get everything I don't have. I also love chip theory. Have Burncycle, cloudspire and went all in on TMB during Unbreakable. And by all in I mean the completionist pledge. I like big games with quality components and great story.

      Also for sprawling RPGs Aftermath could be of interest.

    IMO the experience/feedback that led to the improvements to co-op/solo should have been incorporated in the core, other companies have done this Creative Games Studio LLC -
    Chronicles of Drunagor - Age of Darkness and Sky Kingdom Games - Dungeons of Infinity: Kingdom Cost, bot popular highly rated games.
    I get Stronghold want to maximise return for minimum effort but they have the knowledge and resources together with Diea to update the system and likely retaining the price point e.g. solo/co-op card deck and revised rulebook. The work is done so it's just reorganising/reformatting. The alternative is to either have an inferior core, yes lots of cardboard but nowhere near as good as the expansion system or pay double to get the expansion rules and cards.
    Ironically the more information on the expansion the less attractive the core seems, I backed but have now cancelled, $200 for a game is a sacrifice $400 for a game I have never played is unjustifiable and for me unaffordable.
    We are in the middle of a global cost of living crisis and tying up $400 for 1 yr+ with a risk of losing it, I would have taken the low risk with $200 if the core system had been improved and maybe in the future get expansion characters, campaigns, scenarios.

    • @criticalfail
      @criticalfail  Před 2 lety +1

      It is a hard time to be trying to collect this much from anyone, and in such a short time span too! I think the sticker price is going to be just too much for many who haven't tried the game at all. Hopefully things will calm down and this will be cheaper second hand or in future printings.

    • @jackpotman1984
      @jackpotman1984 Před 2 lety +2

      As its not going to retail, i dont think we will see cheap second hand copies. On the other hand i think this will become an object of value between board gamers. Just as we have seen with the original Hero quest game before the new edition arrived.
      The only thing speaking against this is the initial high price. Are people willing to pay more than that for a second hand game?

  • @patriziopastore9895

    I think there is no question that this is a premium product... but you will get on the table an amazing experience if, important, you like the genre.

    If it was just standees and the game, i think i would have jumped in. I don't need miniatures in my games anymore. Rather have nice art then grey mini's which are never going to get painted or look good.

      @criticalfail  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching! Welcome to the channel.
      For me the black wash they are throwing in is quite nice until I find time to paint the minis, but I totally understand having good looking full color standees.

    • @jackpotman1984
      @jackpotman1984 Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah, i can understand where you can coming from. Minis in any game are just 'fluff' and doesn't add to the gameplay, other than some people feel they get more immersed into the game world with them.
      But on the other hand, i can also see the point from the publisher, as several pledge levels bump up the overall manufactoring costs.
      So its a compromise we have to accept, if we want the game.

  • @masteringame4114
    @masteringame4114 Před 2 lety +1

    Absolute thieves, returning backers costs $225 for those who bought the all-in of the original, that is, they ask for less than half the content of the base game the same price or something more... or perhaps what they imply is that if you want them to give you the expansion you have to pay twice what any equivalent game is worth in a physical store, because they have not optimized the costs of producing it, but they will continue to benefit well!

    • @criticalfail
      @criticalfail  Před 2 lety

      To be fair the expansion is twice the size of a game you would get in a store. Stores don't stock large games or expansions like this because they don't sell as well as the cheaper small box game and they occupy far too much shelf space. The whole thing is expensive I absolutely agree. This campaign comes down to what it is worth for each backer.

    I love the look of this game and combat system, but I'm worried about the price. I'm in Australia and it is about 4 times the cost of Mage Knight Ultimate box. Do you think it has 4 times the content of Mage Knight? I'm just trying to decide if I should just buy Mage Knight instead this (I have not played either).

      Fellow aussie here, to me Euthia looks like MK turned to 11 if that makes sense. I backed it all in instead of getting MK. You really only need one of the two and I feel like Euthia has a better longevity to it.

    • @criticalfail
      @criticalfail  Před 2 lety +1

      Never played MK, it is on my wishlist. I have heard a few people who's opinion I trust say it is a heavier MK, but if you like MK you will like Euthia. Sorry I can't do better than that!

    • @jackpotman1984
      @jackpotman1984 Před 2 lety +3

      I have played both.
      Even though the games seem similar with the exploration and tiles, the gameplay is wastly different. MK primarily uses cards and deckbuilding mechanics. You play cards in order to move, interact with stuff and/or attack enemies, so you can level up, get better cards, etc. This mechanic is basically a complex puzzle of playing the right cards in the right way in order to optimize your every turn. This is why MK is such a heavy game and makes you prone to analysis paralysis. It is still very cool though, if you like thinky games, as the rewards for a great turn is a feeling of superiority and awesomeness (and of course leveling up and loot) :-)
      Euthia on the other hand uses a action token type system, where you spend the tokens to do stuff (mining, trade, combat). This makes the gameplay much faster and you get around the map much quicker and you get to do more stuff in a shorter period of time. The each parts of the gameplay, like combat, getting loot, interacting with stuff are all very different from the two games.
      Get MK if you want a puzzly and thinky (and cheaper) game, but get Euthia if you 'just want to explore the heck out of a game' (give me ALL the map tiles!) :-)
      Both choices are cool and I dont think you'll regret getting any of those. Maybe you'll regret the one you didn't get, so remember that euthia is not going to retail (as per the KS page). Just sayin'

      @prototypep4 Před 2 lety +3
