Kirby gets pushed as a second Protagonist to go along with Diddy Kong.
Imagine racing against Akko with Izuku, shooting a missile at Gumball, Gumball, Izuku, and Akko smoking pot with their friends, throwing an oil slick at Ren, Ryuji using a bat to knock opponents sideways, Ann using her whip to whip a nearby rival, Yusuke asking Momo if she’d be painted nude, Fregley putting his foot in his mouth to distract the other drivers so they can crash, Futaba showing everyone rule 34, Makoto dodging bombs that Bomberman planted on the race track, etc.

These two shows are good and all, but Gravity Falls is slowly but surely fading away into obscurity and The Loud House... well it's not really going anywhere as of now and the ratings are terrible.

@@sandwichgod692 Considering how long ago Gravity Falls ended and it still gets marathoned on Disney XD, I'd say it's doing pretty well. People will inevitably talk less about it because there's nothing new to talk about.
And Loud House... eh. I've gotta agree with Alpha Jay, it's not that great or memorable, and it certainly doesn't work as a "SpongeBob 2.0". I personally believe the main reason behind its huge success is that it was a decent show during the dark ages, and Nickelodeon treated it properly instead of letting it die on Nicktoons.

When the old guy died and fee was just left with the box of his stuff and the heavy realization that he was actually dead that hit me, HARD. First time in my entire life a cartoon got me to tear up and cry.

It seems like Show Networks don't seem to care about the viewers no more. Like Cartoon Network has good shows but they just ALWAYS PLAY Teen Titans Go (not even the good one). Such as Nick used to have good shows (idk how it is now since I don't have cable T.V) like Spongebob but it's not the same as it was in the early years.

The poor show. This was an amazing series, and it truly got a terrible treatment. It should be remembered for years.
Three words in summation: Viacom, running, Nickelodeon.
Nick, despite being among the highest in kids television, is owned by one of the smallest major media conglomerates, and as the smallest they are liberally blatant in their appearance as a cold and calculating corporate entity who is really too small to cover themselves in PR campaigns shouting how great they are. *Need I say this was the same company that sued CZcams and if they won the case would earn 1,000,000,000 in damages. They failed for reasons of their own undoing, which you can guess. (I would recommend seeing Emplemon's vid on that event for more info).* Then, factoring this in, it might be the sad truth for shows under Nick as Viacom continues to both milk the aging cash cow of SB, and scramble for the next ludicrously successful hit. Thus, they sweep aside those that bring any less than resounding success.

I'm confused about why this show didn't at least get like 4 years air time, it was so much better than the shows that were airing during the time, it had a great storyline and great characters who were easily lovable (most of them)

I really, REALLY regret not giving Harvey Beaks any attention at all, and I would have watched so much more of it had Nickelodeon actually aired it and at a decent time slot. What happened to Harvey Beaks honestly depresses me, because it really shows you how little Nickelodeon cares about anything that's different from the norm and how they are obsessed with trying to find the next Spongebob, when Spongebob is the kind of show that only happens once in a lifetime. Harvey Beaks was a show ahead of it's time, and it was another perfect case of a show being "too good to last".
Nickelodeon's mentality towards any show that isn't Spongebob, as well as Cartoon Network's obsession with Teen Titans Go is literally the reason why both viewers and creators are jumping ship to streaming services. It's not because of new innovative technologies that people are going to streaming services (like the mainstream media wants you to believe), but because television viewers are tired of how overly conservative the networks are and how they play things so safe that innovation is basically forbidden, forcing viewers to watch the same shows again and again. You constantly say that we live in "an era of dying TV" in your videos, but TV is not dying, it's being killed by network executives who refuse to listen to what viewers want and instead listen to focus groups and investors.
If it weren't for this mentality, Harvey Beaks would have had several seasons, maybe 3 or 4 of them, and we could have had more intelligent and light-hearted shows like it, but no... instead Nick continues to rely on Spongebob and sub-par animated shows. It's no wonder I watch so few western animated shows nowadays and watch more anime.
Used to watch this show when I was a kid. It was way better than the others shows on the network "Sanjay and Craig." I don't know man it was just relaxing and innocent. Every time I watched it I would feel like it was the spring or summer. And I remember those Saturday mornings 😊

There's a lot of comments saying this same thing, and I don't think it was just a lack of appropriate marketing that did it in. It just wasn't easy to invest yourself in it, really take the time to enjoy the overarching story because individual episodes were so bland.

Great video, but I just wanted to state: Nicktoons is where Nick puts all their "dead shows". So basically Nicktoons is a graveyard for shows that never made it to the 3 season mark.

This, actually makes me sad... I've never thought of this show and now that I'm seeing it , it seemed to be Gravity Falls or Steven Universe potential and I'm really disappointed that Nick canceled this. I remember seeing this show when I was like 8-9 not really caring much for it but now, I really do care for it after this and wonder why Nick would ever cancel this beautiful show.

When i was 9 i remember legit saying "this is boring. I want spongebob." NOW I REGRET THAT. When i was 11, on summer of 2017 i started watching it daily (since it was emitted once per day, also i didnt miss a single episode). Then suddenly,i forgot about the show. I also remember watching the final episode of harvey with my best friend in uuuuhhhh january i think. THEN. THEN I CRIED. And got hooked on so hard for like two weeks. Then, on summer i turned 12, and really started loving a character *(guess who)* in this cartoon cuz i realised that he seems like literally me. Next year i turned 13 and i dont remember watching it once (it was already cancelled but there are episodes online), i just thought of it a few times and thats all. And now... im 14 and im hooked on again but really i become so emotional when i watch it. And every time i hook on something i canNOT stop thinking about it (its like im obsessed) wow sorry about writing an essay i became very sad.

Yeah I was saddened when this show didn't make it. I personally loved it, surely one of the 20 people that did. Some of my favorite things about this show was the music, art style and, of course, the characters.

@@TheAlphaJayShow Yep. My favorites I can remember (been a few years) is the opening theme and Pee-Choo. Those two have immediately stood out to me since the very second I heard them for the first time and still enjoy them to this day.

icecream hero actually it has a few good jokes sprinkled in. JP is where a lot of the shows humor comes from so I’d recommend episodes that are mostly focused on him. Sunday Clothes, Big Pinchy, JPony (okay that’s more of a romance episode) and Jextra Perrestrial those are the JP episodes I could think of off the top of my head. Yeah he doesn’t have a lot of episodes compared to Craig or Kelsey. That’s probably the only problem I have with the show it treats JP like he’s just there for comedy. He does have a few episodes of him showing development like in JPony but that’s really it I think.

You know, I was in the exact same boat as you, I saw everything else Nick was putting out at the time and didn't even give Harvey Beaks a second thought, but this overview opened my eyes, what a sweet and down to earth show, I regret not giving it the time of day.
Harvey Beaks was such a damn beautiful show. Kids at that time bullied me so much for loving cartoons and wanting to be an animator. Even those bullies loved Harvey Beaks, and didn't judge me for being a fan of this show specifically.

Simple answer: Nickelodeon
Nickelodeon sucks right now Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty is a ripoff of Unikitty, they have been milking Spongebob for damn near 20 years now despite the show originally planned to end in 2004 and all the current animated show are mediocre or bad. Cancelling Harvey Beaks without telling the creator C.H Greenblatt was a horrible decision .

They also totally messed up Miraculous ladybug which is a hit in other countries were it airs on Disney. But here they dumped it off at like 12 pm Sundays to can it after 4 episodes.
It's such a shame. This show could have been a modern classic, to be remembered like Rugrats and Ed, Edd, and Eddy; but Nickeloden only cares about Spongebob and crappy live-action shows that nobody cares about.

I loved Harvey Beaks.
It was the last show before I stopped watching Nickelodeon. When it stopped I stopped.
0:45 We all have that moment, when we try something new and out of our comfort zone we're scared at it first but when we all "Open Our Eyes" and realized the "Once in the lifetime wonder" that was made form Happiness, Joy and true Heart.
All of us opened our eyes, all except for Nick.
Okay, wow. I had no idea there was this much to unpackage in one show. I never watched Harvey Beaks personally, and after watching this video, oh boy do I regret that. It's got so much heart into it, it's so much more than the other offerings on Nick at the time. I only watched your synopsis of an episode dealing with loss (and the character who died was only briefly shown, no less), and I cried my eyes out. All this time I thought that Harvey Beaks was a toned-down carbon copy tryout for the next Spongebob, and it breaks my heart to know that there was so much substance that I was missing out on. And even more potential thrown away because of a lack of instant success. Instant success that is literally impossible to achieve in general, let alone with the way Nick went about it. Never before have I been so genuinely angry at a network before. Because in just one 40 minute video I watched on a whim, I've fallen in love with this show. And none of us are ever gonna get the opportunity to see it through to its entirety. That's... that's really sad, honestly.
Thanks so much for making this, Alpha Jay. Had you not made this video, I don't think I ever would have given Harvey Beaks a chance. Now I just have to see where I can binge-watch this show, 'cause I've waited long enough to see something so pure. Much love to you all. ❤️

yeah it could last longer, but the way it finishes (and just like gravity falls) it so good that I dont want another season.
It only finished early cause of what Nickelodeon did. Unlike Gravity Falls where the creator wanted to end the show after two seasons because of it being his own choice. The creator of Harvey Beaks was forced to ending it sooner because they didn't like what he was doing with the show even the fans loved it.

The animation style of the pilot reminds me of Fish Tales. The music reminds me of Hilda. The plot reminds me of a mix of Chowder, The Loud House, and Hilda. The actual used animation style reminds me of Over the Garden Wall.

This video really triggered something in me. Tbh, the way networks treat good shows that dont immediately live up to the thresholds and expectations of the more popular shows (Spongebob, TTG, etc.) is what demotivates me from being an animator. I always wanted to be a cartoonist. I have a cartoon idea that I've been working on since I was 14. (Im in the process of copyrighting it now)I did research all through my high school years and even now in my early adult life. And throughout that time more good shows got cancelled or booted to the sister networks (Boomerang, Nicktoons, DisneyXD) for more reruns of the popular cartoons. At this rate, I just hope the cartoon industry and the cartoon marketing industry (or something like that) will improve.

Harvey Beaks is one of the cartoons that caught my attention, and the episode where Blister died; I was like "This cartoon leaps more than I expected". I don't know what to say, btw it aired here in the Philippines last year so it is in Filipino but the Emotion and the atmosphere that you want to cry.

I'll never forget Harvey Beaks' intro. One of the best cartoon intros out there.

Even Butch Hartman shows dramatically declined in popularity. If I remember, both Fairly Oddparents and Bunsen is a Beast were sent to die Nicktoons deaths, and Danny Phantom was prematurely cancelled, too.

Noahh I’m not a big fan of Butch Hartmann. Fairy Oddparents and Danny Phantom were fine, the rest of his shows were just bad. His art style is just bad as well. The characters just look like they were just drawn in 5 minutes and Butch was like “Yeah, this is it, chief.”

@@varietyhub2948 That's true, but Nickelodeon barely gave them a chance to air. Back when FOP was as big as SpongeBob, Nick aired it nonstop. Yet I never saw a single "new episode" advertisment for season 10 after Big Fairy Share Scare, and the show didn't even have a finale. And I don't recall ever seeing Bunsen is a Beast anywhere but on Nicktoons. The only advertisment I ever saw for that show was the Danny Phantom/Fairly Oddparents/Tuff Puppy crossover short on CZcams.

Harvey Beaks deserved so much more, I never realized how amazing this show truly was and neither did Nick, they continued getting rid of amazing cartoons. This is why their network is failing in other ways that aren't spongebob and loud house
Harvey Beaks was a great show and those evil monsters killed it.
Harvey beaks honestly meant so much to me that it made me cry. It was clear to me that Harvey was supposed to be a kid much like myself, someone dealing with autism, or at the least, aspergers, and hearing him talk about his show later on and how much it meant for him to create this as well really made me happy to hear.
One of the things I always had to deal with was being forced into the "weirdos" that no one else liked because of how they acted. I was never treated as normal and was treated even worse when I befriended those others deemed as undesirable. Having a show like that where I can be shown the same way I was treated but still treat it as a normal experience just meant everything to me and I really want to meet Greenblat to personally thank him for even his attempt and tell him just how much the show means to me.
I am but a random person on the internet, so maybe my words will have little meaning. Even so...
I also have Aspergers which is on the Autism spectrum. I don't ever let it get to me because I am so used to it and compared to a lot of others, I'm high functioning. I have it "minor" if that makes sense. BUT, my point is, I don't let it get to me. You know why? Because I learnt long ago that I am just different. I have never agreed with social stereotypes or heavy expectations, so to me... Being "weird" is BETTER than being normal. Besides that, what defines someone as normal? Those people who are popular, what makes them normal? Maybe YOU are the normal one? Normality, to me, is a social construct that tries to make people confine to unrealistic ideals or, simply, boring ideals.
Look at Harvey Beaks. It's unique, definitely not normal. But still, it's a great show and deserves much more love. Just like us people on the spectrum. Okay, I shouldn't compare a TV show to a real life thing, but I think that kinda makes sense. Here's a better example... Adventure Time. It is incredibly odd. Yet, look how popular that is! How is something so "weird" so popular? People like it BECAUSE (along with the plot and other things) it's unique. Yet in real life, people who are weird, more so in school years, they get rejected... It's sad, huh?
I'm rambling a lot, and my points are becoming vague, so I'll end with this... Love yourself. You're different, but we all are, autistic or not.
That's just it, differences make the world interesting and without them, the world is boring.

watching this show was so calming for me, I loved the unique and wholessome vibe it gave of. I watched this during my pre-teens/teen years, while I was mature enough to watch other stuff, but I always gravitated towards this show. its very similar to steven universe, in terms of having great music and art style, but way better in every other aspect, a lot more fun, wasn't nonsensical and random, didn't take itself too seriously, an actual cartoon with good lessons for all ages
this show was so good that after 7 years i had a vivid memory of the halloween show after i only watched it once. i watched one episode and seven years later i remembered it.
So, to summarize my experience throughout this video:

I am definitively going to check the rest of Harvey Beaks now ♥
What happened here was that a good show was canceled and ended early all because the creator spoke the truth and his mind which the heads of Nickelodeon didn’t like so they swept the rug right under Harvey Beaks.

Harvey Beaks was what got me to trust Nickelodeon with their Nicktoons again. It was cute, mellow, and had funny moments too. It sucks that Nick treated the show like it was nothing. They had no idea about the audience who kept supporting their short run.

For a while before this show, Nick's cartoon shows have been hits or misses, and the misses were sometimes REALLY BAD. Harvey Beaks felt like a show they would air around the late 90's or early 2000's. I could see this playing after a Hey Arnold episode.
This and The Loud House made me excited for the future of Nicktoons, and while I'm glad the latter show is still airing, I still missed Harvey Beaks. Such a criminally underrated Nicktoon.
