  • I have wanted this to work for a year now. Finally got the courage to work out the bracing and supports so it is super low maintenance. Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

Yay! 👏 That’s exactly what I’m thinking will work for my scenario. Thanks for posting your process!

Your foot gear around the shop is the best. I love it.😁😁😉👍👍

The proper tension actually is substantial. The force on a 4x4 over time really will pull them in unless you tether them down on the opposing side. Using perimeter beams is a great solution. My recommendation is also to not consider sails unless you are willing to install a proper support system like you have done here. Unless you intend for it to be very temporary. 6x6 are heavy and combursome but work very well too.

I am taking your advice and going with 6"x 6" and I also liked the lights (both from your earlier video). The 4" x 4" attachment instead of going through the gutter is a great idea.
I would suggest making the heights of the corner connections different so the sail is not level. I think that would reduce or prevent water pooling. I saw a different video where they used a pully and ropes instead of a chain and a turnbuckle to connect. It allowed tensioning and you could bring down the sail easier in case of a big storm ( I live in Hurricane country) also it was much cheaper. Good videos, Thanks!

Thank you. This much more work than I am willing to do!! Have you tried painters drop cloth? I saw a DIY that used them, I am looking instructions for using large flower pots and cement.

Ughhh...when I saw you go through the gutters with those Eyebolts, I was thinkin heavy weather was gonna be problematic. But hey you gave it a shot! LOL! Looking at this upgrade though I think you'll be good. Keep us posted! :-)

Lol. Yep gave it a shot. Worked pretty well until you said it "Heaavy Weather," and it proved problematic. This new design has been 100% maintenance free. Haven't touched it since install..
      Thank you for watching!

Yes, much better support! Great to see. Now that you've had them a while how do you like them? There look to be some pretty good gaps between the triangles. Does this have people moving furniture for the shade? Wondering if another layer a few inches below with cross pattern might be the best. Well, great improvement.

We love them. There is a gap and yes furniture is moved around. I have thought about throwing another sail to cover the gap, but near future plans is to fully cover the patio. Thanks for watching.

For father's day you need a good platform ladder before someone gets hurt.

How is this holding up for you??
My house is a very similar design and we are DYING in the summer lol.
Definitely looking at doing something similar this year.

This version has been great! Almost zero issues even in higher winds (20's), it holds up. The more support you can give the sails the better. There is a lot of tension on the corners and the bigger they get the more support you need. Thanks for watching!

Hello Little about Alot! I've watched video after video and came across your channel. Very impressive and informative! Can you tell me how many inches of the chain that's used? Thank you for this video! 🥰

You know I really don’t remember. It’s dependent on your application, but I believe around 18” of chain for each connection point was used for my application. Thanks for watching!

Are you predrilling, and what type of wood? I usually grab cedar but everything costs so much

    • @littleaboutalot7478
      @littleaboutalot7478  Před 3 lety

Wood is crazy expensive right now. I use pressure treated ground contact rated boards. The lag screws are pre-drilled but everything else screw in pretty well without any extra work. Thanks for watching.
