    It was mentioned in the video, but should be stressed, make sure the exit point is not submerged at the Ct River before you enter. It is common for the the river to be higher than the roof of the conduit at the exit, while the entrance level can appear to be safe.

      You would think more people would stress this point

      Yeah, if you're going to do it I recommend dropping your car off at the end first. That way you can look at the exit and make sure there's plenty of clearance before you take an Uber back to Pope Park (where you have already dropped off the canoes or kayaks) and go in the other side. And then your car is waiting for you when you're done.

      Hi, great vid, I’m coming from out of state. Is there a way to find out the water level for the exit before coming? I want to come this May.

      To Paula, what business did your family have? I'm from Wethersfield as well; and my grandfather had Wethersfield Electric. Unfortunately none of his children wanted to continue the business. I would have done it, but he passed in 1973.

    I took this trip about 20 years ago and there was an area called “the pit” which was about 150 feet deep. Although this trip is fascinating it is not safe. I would not recommend taking this trip to anyone!

    • @jonringel1
      @jonringel1  Před 5 lety

      Well that's interesting. We didn't use a depthfinder but that's pretty terrifying to think about. Do you happen to remember roughly which spot that is? Most of it was really shallow but there were a few spots where we didn't check

    • @motess5304
      @motess5304 Před 5 lety

      Damn that is scary to think about. Upon futher research those are run off pits that go 100-150ft down to secondary tunnels of flow out to some other water source. You sort have to go off the main path sort of speak to be bear them.

    • @jeffmacdonald9863
      @jeffmacdonald9863 Před 5 lety

      @@motess5304 Yeah, the big pit is an overflow channel in the junction room. You can stop there, get out and get up on the side and look down into it. When I've been in there it was quite a way down just to get to the water. You don't want to fall in.

  • @williamthim634

    I grew up across from the Armory. We used to go down to the opening there and walk in a few feet, turn on our flashlights and see the BIG river rats. We then decide to leave. Did you come across any on your travels?

    Which direction or tunnel do you take once you hit the main junction you talked about or mentioned?

    • @jonringel1
      @jonringel1  Před 5 lety +1

      If I remember correctly it was the right one. Apparently there are steam vents that discharge into the left side, I found that while researching before we did it.
