- This video goes through Moral Action: Bonhoeffer topic. Don't forget to check out the blog: I Think Therefore I Teach for more help or comment underneath if you have any questions :)
Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers). But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].
Psalms 1:1-3
This links well to Bonhoeffer's ideas of Costly Grace :)
This was seriously the most helpful thing ever!! Thank you so much!! :)
You are very welcome, pleased you found it helpful ☺️
Many are called few are chosen. Great this.
Thanks for this Paul, yes it raises a lot of questions linking to Exclusivism and Salvation. Always a good topic for discussion:)
Thank you so much, this is extremely helpful!!
Thanks for your message Emily, I'm pleased it helped :)

Really pleased I can help Lana. Hope your exams go well :)
Yes bonhoffer! Legend!
I certainly enjoy teaching about Bonhoeffer :)
you are a life saver thank you so much
You are very welcome ☺️ hope your exam goes really well tomorrow!
Hi this was really helpful, thank you. When we was doing this in class, however, we went over the ideas of the Church as a community and the concept of salt and light. Is this necessary in an essay?
They sound great too!! Yes definitely mention those in an essay if relevant to Q :)
Hello, I am just doing some Bonhoeffer revision but I don't quite seem to understand the difference between discipleship and obedience. For discipleship I have "the call to discipleship is true obedience to Jesus Christ and the will of God '' but this sounds very similar to just obedience to me. Does discipleship focus more on the suffering and sacrifice to follow in Jesus's path and obedience focus more on disobedience to the state?
Hi Orla, they are very closely linked. Different sides of the same coin but I really like your distinction and I think it would work well in an essay :)
Hi, how many areas of this topic (e.g. the cost of discipleship, civil disobedience) would need to be discussed in any essay? :)
I would say all four are needed as they are the main parts of his argument. So even if specific e.g to discipleship you still need to link to Grace etc because they all interleave together :)
Hey miss could you also suggest that jesus's act of healing the bleeding woman was an act against religious authority rather than political (roman) rule
It could be used for both as it is against the culture (Roman rule) and Jewish religious laws too :)
Also, I was wondering if you would be able to send me the glossaries for the topics coming up on Tuesdays exam?
Thank you!!
Hi Alex, I don't distribute sheets via CZcams but I am sure you will have your key words if you keep using the videos like you are :)
How would you approach a question such as To what extent was Bonhoeffer’s religious community at Finkenwalde successful? Thanks
im wondering this too!
Hi Oscar, with any Bonhoeffer question you need to link in the four themes. So you need to discuss if the Church was successful in its approach e.g obedience to Jesus over state etc :)
Great that thanks for sharing.
No problem :)

hey!! thanks for the video- super helpful
the point that you made at 12.45about Bon taking an unusual perspective about sacrifice and suffering
but I think that he's trying to emphasise that no matter what it takes, you should always stand up and fight for what you believe in and be willing to sacrifice your life for your beliefs- just like Jesus?
Thank you
Yes very true, that is a good defense argument :)
Hi Thankyou for this I just have one question if a question was to come like this Assess Bonhoeffer’s views on the role of the Church. how would you go about answering this?
I would stick to the main four themes e.g obedience and link to the Church such as how the Confessing Church promoted full obedience including letting go over you old life and not following the state :)
@@IThinkThereforeITeach so for main themes you mean obedience grace solidarity and suffering? And what can we use to counter these 4 points?
Yes they are key themes. You dont have to use names or specific arguments to counter, you can just discuss if they work or not from different angles. You can always use your own wider research in an answer too :)
Hi quick question it doesn’t really have any scholars in here. With Bonhoeffer do yiu not have any scholars to attack him, or am I not getting the point of this subject ?
Most topics have counter names/arguments you are not wrong but this topic is a little different in that you need to discuss his approach and methodology and you can do this without names. Synoptically you can get a lot of marks using names such as Jesus and Liberation Theology :)
Hey miss on the spec bonhoeffer is divided in 3 parts Duty to God n the state, the church as a community and the cost of discipleship. However, i'm not really sure what part goes for each section of the powerpoint
Hi, the four key themes on the ppts could link to all those spec areas e.g obedience to Church or solidarity with God not state :)
Thanks miss
what other scholars would you use in an essay on Bonhoeffer?
You can make a lot of synoptic links to Bonhoeffer for example Person of Jesus, Kant (duty) or Liberation Theology. You don’t have to use scholars and just evaluate in general but any scholars from other topics can be used to develop your line of argument :)
Social justice v biblical justice.
Very true :)
