Tammy "JoJo" Johnson, who is originally from Columbus, but grew up in Akron, tried to take her own life after she endured years of abuse. As a child, she was molested by her cousins and severely bullied by her classmates at school, so Johnson, who believed in reincarnation, tried to kill herself in an attempt to "start over". She fired the gun multiple times, but instead of hitting herself, she accidentally shot her mom, who was asleep on the couch.
Afterwards, she was convicted of murder and sent to a juvenile correctional facility in Delaware, Ohio, where she stayed until she was 21. For years she didn't speak of the abuse that she had previously endured. But at age 15, she decided to finally open up about it after other women at the institution inspired her. Johnson, who works at Google, has now learned to accept her past.

The interviewer needs to hone her skills. She asked several questions, initially that JoJo had already answered.
2 min in and the interviewer is already getting on my nerves! Darn, It’s being recorded, not like she’s writing a book
Thank you..I had to fast fwd
Exactly!!!!😢
I definitely had to fast forward a lil😩🤦🏾♀️
Exactly!!! Like I'm not talking about breakfast fix your mic have it ready...do my story tf! I can not stand them people I just live amongst them 🤷🏾♀️
Yeah mine too, like are you not paying attention. And asking the same questions
Two minutes in and I’m already disgusted with the interviewer. Despicable. It’s hard to get through honestly.
Thank you.
You have saved me some time.
Thought I was the only one
Say that smh seems like she felt it too cause she took a breath at that moment
I thought I would be the only one! I can't even finish.😡
lol me too!! she should not be interviewing
This is the worst interviewer i have ever heard. God bless you for not getting up and walking out, i wish you a wonderful life8n the future. 😊😊😊😊😊
i agree she is a terrible interviewer obviously in the wrong career, she should have walked out
I feel the same!!! I was cringing 😢
Yes I'm trying to engage but this interviewer makes it hard
I probably would have left . This is ridiculous.
I wished she told her story on her own. I don’t mean any harm, but the interviewer is awful. 🙄thx Queen for sharing your story.🙏🏽
I can't even do it.
I truly appreciate her testimony, and I am glad she was able to rise above being failed by almost every adult in her life.
However I feel there is a strong disconnect between her and the interviewer. She is so emotional yet the interviewer talks and asks questions without any empathy or emotion. That irritates me.
This interviewer, just one word to describe her...CLUELESS
absolutely
The resilience of this beautiful woman is astronomical. Thank you for sharing her story.
Her eyes are gorgeous. So is she. I pray for her.
My heart goes out to Tammy. I went through sexual abuse along with my two sisters. Everyone reacts differently but we're all victims to start with. She has a powerful story and I'm so happy she's shared it! ❤❤❤
What a well spoken and beautiful woman.Such a shame what happened to her and her poor mum.
Such a strong beautiful woman. I'm so glad she had someone on her journey who she was able to build trust with and who listened to her.
I see a, beautiful young woman with courage to, speak out of, the horrors she was put through. At such a young age.😢😢😢
This woman is incredible.
Thank you for sharing your story.
Who is the flippin interviewee? Like WTH? She asks, "Do you feel like you made it?" Of course she made it! Imagine what this interview would have been like if she had a compassionate person interviewing her. My heart goes out to this woman and all victims of abuse, like myself. I'm so grateful she was able to find help and do great things with her life
Those who don't have a horrible mother would never understand it .
A sad truth sister. My mom isn't the worst, but I still have mild trauma thanks to her.
And even if I had a great mom, I learn to listen and understand before I judge anyone. Smh, too much mental health issues running around and not being talked about, and especially being treated.
Wait and see. It’s not what you think of.
Some suffocates because they think they know better....
They are just hopelessly blind
Easy to judge , I agree
I can imagine it. My heart breaks for her... Her accomplishments are astounding ❤. What an amazingly beautiful woman.
She is lucky she has recovered so well. Some are left wreckages for life from abuse and trauma like that
Definitely blessed!
What an introspective, humble woman. She received good treatment that contributed to her recovery. She is a success story. 👏🏼
Absolutely loved this!!! She is so strong and brave for telling her story! I definitely want to purchase her book! My God is awesome ❤️ 🙌🏾
"From the Ground Up".
Than you Queen for sharing. No harm intended the interviewer should've been just the camera personnel.
What a beautiful, soft spoken and extremely intelligent lady.😍 I pray that everything that she touches turns into a blessing for her and others. You go girl! You are doing amazing! Keep going.💪🏽❤️👊🏽💎
The narrator is annoying
I totally agree with you worst interviewer.
VERY annoying.
Ooof the interviewer 😬
You are a remarkable human being - and I appreciate the amount of courage it took for you to come forth and tell us your story, but no ordinary that is. I will never understand why anyone would intentionally harm someone, let alone a child to gain sexual gratification at the cost of the innocent souls harmed in the name of selfishness.
I am so proud of you for taking your traumatic past and turning it into a life you can be proud of and a story that teaches all of us redemption and the human spirit...
God Bless You &
Thank You
JoJo, you are blessed because you have forgiven those who have hurt you. The Lord is so proud of you! So am I, and I don’t even know you! God Bless!
What a beautiful woman & the strength she showed is incredible!
Ah, man, this is terrible. The fact that she lost her mom, and even more so, because she was trying to take her own life 😢
It's sad, but I can't wait to get more information on this poor young lady. Mental health is no joke for real.
Thank God for the women that PROTECTED YOU. You are an amazing 👏 strong, loving and very smart women. You are a survivor. May God continue to bless you.
What an Amazing story!! So sorry you went through all of these horrible experiences!! Keep rising Beautiful Queen!!!
What a beautiful woman in every way! Thanks for sharing your story.
Dame what's up with this interviewer ...
The interviewer is already making me frustrated really tryna hear her story
She knows she shot her mom but she tried to block it out.
What’s an easier pill to swallow? Saying that someone told you killed your mom or actually admitting to the world that you killed your mom?
I believe that she was traumatized at a young age. Her mother wasn’t protective in that one of her responses was to tell her to stab another child. A person who tells you to stab someone else, is not going to be the most emotionally present and comforting presence -which was what she needed. Her mother did not appear to be a support system for her, in fact, she added to her trauma. I believe that she made the conscious decision to shoot her mother, just as all of the other conscious decisions she made. The plan to kill this thing in her dreams and then kill herself was a smoke screen. Her intention was to remove the person that caused her the most harm as the individual responsible for her wellbeing. The fact that she was hospitalized after the fact and did not ask for her mother. She’s released from the hospital to the care of her family, didn’t ask for her mother, and even went to the beach, without the mother she claimed would normally keep her away from family -a red flag in and of itself giving you more insight into the kind of mother she was. At the end of the day, she wanted to be free of her and she is. It was a decision she’s made and she still has not “paid” for. Incarceration isn’t payment for taking a life. Payment would be admitting the truth about her life and what led her to kill her mother. Not writing a book to capitalize off it it or do interviews where you get to tell some version of a story that’s not true. When she really comes to grips with her pain, the life she took of her own volition, and those she hurt as a result -THEN we should celebrate her healing and transformation. Being attractive, being an articulate storyteller, shedding tears, accomplishing some measure of success does not make someone innocent. People please wake up.🦋
EXACTLY 💯
I 👍 agree
Wow now that’s insightful, thank you for opening up a fresh perspective. I heard her say that her mom taught her to sharpen a pencil and stab someone. Interestingly enough I’m from Ny area where people were told to retaliate with violence often. They weren’t ever told to stab anyone tho or draw blood. Elders would say pick up something at most if it’s a big bully that persist and knock them out. I also observe that upstate where I’m from has a lot of ritual blood sacrifice in it currently. I agree that it is of the uttermost need to expose things from real places because there’s a serious evil plaguing society called “ get it in blood”. Rappers are verbalizing this concept, they just shot like 7 girls and murdered a hair stylist in Chicago so it’s surpassing the usual black male sacrifices. Scripture says that the actual “life” is in the blood and it’s medically proven. Hopefully this sista can take your wise words coupled with this information to actually work on purify evil altars in her backround for the sake of appropriating the blood of Jesus and properly atoning. She has numerous people close to her that was traveling through prison channels, there’s an occult stronghold around her life. Blood transactions and human sacrifice is a horrible evil to confront in the lineage but I pray sis truly gains the LIGHT REVELATION AND BREAKTHROUGH ON THIS ANCESTRAL BATTLE that could clearly by a mystery and preceded her age. She seems too intelligent to trade the life of blood for something so worthless as money and power. I hope she breaks this curse off her so it doesn’t take her children under its oppression and slavery, satan is a very selfish bidder. Thanks again for your education here, it illuminated deep truths and when we know the truth and align with the truth- the truth alone makes us free!
Regardless she was a child a very mentally ill child Regardless of the truth. Prayers to all damaged souls.
And the name of her book was what?? That should have been posted up front
Yess!! Im still looking for it
Author Tammy Jo Jo "From the Ground Up".
❤🙏🏽 Beautiful soul! Thank You Lord for keeping her.
This us sad. But there is a lot of wording That helps me to believe that this is not all true. I do not believe she had no idea that she shot her mother.
THE PERSON ASKING THE QUESTIONS RUINED THIS INTERVEIW! TAKE YOUR MUZZLE OFF!! 😷😷😷
Exactly
And let's ask the same question 12 times. 🤷🏻♀️
She not only ruins interviews, she has ruined this channel.
This interviewer isn’t listening well
She is a truly beautiful soul, awesome interview
That person who raped you as a young child does he know or was he charged after all he caused all the problems that you went through so sad
Unbelievable... literally. Use discernment people
This interviewer is making it extremely difficult to watch. Along with the person who did the editing. It’s hard to even follow the chronological timeline, it’s all over the place. 🙄Eye roll so hard I just caught a damn migraine.
I know she is literally terrible
Agreed!!!! 😢
Hello, it's an uncut, unedited version. Thank you for your understanding!
@@RealWomenRealStories You don't need to interview anyone - ever.
🤣🤣 Ok!! Sis replied as if her excuse negates the fact that this interview is a mess. Furthermore I’m confused as to the reason for uploading the unedited version vs the one that is. Especially with the complaints and criticism. 🤔Like make it make dollars, then make it make sense.
Tips for the interviewer: prep your questions so the interview flows like the interviewee is telling a story, and please PAY ATTENTION to the answers so you’re not asking the interviewee to repeat themselves.
And please market her book.
Author Tammy Jo briefly shares her experience while writing "From the Ground Up".
Who the hell is this interviewer
This is a amazing interview. We’re I am in my life now I needed to hear this. Thank you for sharing and keep achieving.
Such trauma. She was in a very dark place. I wish her many,, many blessings ❤❤❤❤❤❤
JoJo, thanks so much for sharing your story. You have certainly triumphed in the face of adversity and traumatic abuse. Loads of blessings 🙌 🙏 ✨️ to you because you are such a BEAUTIFUL SOUL.🎉❤😇😉😘
How unprofessional! How many times did you really ask this lady to repeat herself?? 😣
I was locked up with her. I think she said she did it because her mom wouldn't let her go to a party. I remember her
I can believe it. Something definitely seems a little off about this interview.
Oh wow, what were you in for?
I imagine that’s more accepted than saying “I was dealing with mental illness”
Perhaps.. i would believe that! The motive is not adding up. I am slow to call someone a liar and I like to use to discernment, and listen to their story a couple times to get all the details. This is not making sense. What stood out to me was the fact that there was NO trial, which lets me know that this was not a case of insanity.... because expert witnesses (psychologists etc) would have to testify and determine that. She most likely was counseled by her attorney to plead guilty, so that she could be released at that (young) age. I can predict that a jury is not going to buy such a bizarre story...unbelievable, LITERALLY.
Also, where is the remorse and expression of the love that you had for your mother???? I'm not saying boohoo cry, but you would express that, especially if this was unintentional as she's claiming. I heard very little about mother.
If I was the interviewer, I personally would have probed more on the lucid dreaming, and asked her to expound on that for a good 5-10 mins. So your intent was to kill the thing in your night terrors and afterwards shoot yourself? And IF you're suicidal, why wait until the night terrors begin to then do it? Nah!!!
Wow thank you for sharing that. I can't stand a liar, but I know that lying is nothing to a murderer.
@@reese21207right she knows she shot her mom. Her story makes 0 sense
Great interview, amazing person! You’ve overcome so much!
You're a beautiful woman inside and out. Very powerful story and advocate. I hope you keep having peace of mind and wonderful moments ahead of you.💓
God bless her and I kno her Mom is proud of the Woman she has become 🙏🏽
Wow, you have come so far. I hope you are proud of yourself.
I am sorry all this happened to you.
❤ her life is now ahead of her... May she be blessed
I had to fast forward the first 5-10min cuz the interviewer was annoying like let her talk and quit asking questions she already answered
Who’s interviewing her she needs more practice
I wouldn't keep repeating myself lol
Life changing interview. You are the true definition of overcoming. Beautiful spirit and woman. Keep becoming the amazing espression God made you to be.... blessings ❤ 🙏
Lady stop making her repeat this stuff over this isn’t a movie hell
I just want to say GOD thank you for this woman and thank you for this platform that was created for women to tell their story I hope to tell me on here one day!
God bless you and keep sharing your story. ❤
Her story doesnt make sense. She is full of crap. The classic "blacked out" when i do something horriffic.
She was a child what's wrong with you.
God I pray you will always guide her and keep her so close to you. I feel her pain. Please restore her joy. Give her back 100 fold for all she has gone through ❤
Wow you look amazing for 44 .I thought you were about 25 !!!
Idk why some of yall are bashing the mom , clearly you didnt listen to the story. Also the interviewer was .....to put it nicley ....inexperienced..... honestly Mark from SWU would have done a better job.
WOW 😮😢❤😢❤❤❤❤ I'M SO EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW THIS YOUNG LADY IS SO IMPRESSIVE I CAN RELATE TO EVERY EMOTIONS!! MYSELF HAS BEEN THROUGH THIS SIMILAR EVENTS 😢😢I PRAY 🙏 SHE COTINUE TO RISE ABOVE YOUR TRAGIC EMOTIONAL STORY.
She clearly says she was born in Akron and raised in Columbus not the other way around.
Thank you for sharing your story. And, thank you for showing God's glory.
Advice for the interviewer. It would of felt a lot more personal if we didn’t hear you asking the questions and it would be so much more intimate if the interviewee started with the titled caption or “my name is Tammy and I unintentionally killed my mom”. I know you’re only trying to make good content, but it is coming off extremely inconsiderate to the interviewee. Like it’s very mechanical.
This is the worst interview I have ever seen in this channel, the interviewer lacks of empathy, connection, and professionalism from the beginning. I hope to never hear her voice ever again. Tammy thank you so much for sharing your story & I’m sorry you got stuck w/ a empathetic person.
Powerful and Sad, but also very Inspiring!! She’s definitely an OverComer!!
How was this information not featured.

"From the Ground Up".
She is gorgeous! May God bless her journey with favor!
Ohio here also.
No accountability. She shot her mom but was demonically possessed.
She lieng
She is cold and very possessed. Her mother didn't deserve that. There's a place in hell for her.
You might be just as damaged. 😮
She is strong i grew up around a lot of terrible mothers that the children are all grown up now and now they are doing good one man told me thank me and my family for saving him from his mother in which she passed away due to drug addiction!!!
Another great vídeo, the stories are so heartbreaking.
I'll be back tomorrow....
This interview was very enlightening & important to mothers & parents all around the world this is w I shared it with the world! Thank u so much for sharing ur story!
Wooh!!!! What a testimony!!
I have no clue here
I live in Pflugerville TX as well. I would love to see her and just hug her.
🤬😬Repeat that. Say it again. Could you repeat the pert with... This time, say it with the part...
She is beautiful & such a light. ❤❤❤
I want to read her book.
Thou Shalt Not Kill.
Jojo you certainly aren't poor of spirit or understanding. A wonderful sad story long may you continue.
I didn’t pay attention to the interviewer a story of being triumphant
39:33 very well said... we understand that if we didn't do what we did then things wouldn't of been the way they were, and yes I can also understand that you're hurt because of something I did. But I hurt too, I lost something too.
Shes one of the strongest women i have come across. It hurt me though when she said she had to take responsibility for what she did .. i disagree...its not her fault no matter how you look at it... i place the blame on the people that hurt her as a child...it all stems from them. Her mother passing was never and will never be her fault. Shes one of these amazing survivors that take their pain and wrongdoings from others and doesnt let that mold who they are or how they treat people. The fact that she went through literal hell and is still an amazing person, mother, soon to be wife..shes really just a beautiful person i hope she continues to heal and lives a happy life and has a beautiful marriage ❤❤❤❤
Sad 😢
For some awkward reason i do not believe this story. i want to but hmmm. A 12 yr old for murder with night terrors is locked up until she's 21 to protect her???? All thru the interview she consistently report she was sexually violated in custody and out. This was a lot for me. When she stated she shot her mother.... she had no endearment. she said i shot "her" as opposed to i shot my mother. Also she says her family is not ready for the details👀Whatever the story is, I commit to pray for her. pray for my imperfections also🙏🏽
Trauma is the gateway!
Forty WHAT???? You look 25. Black don’t crack. Beautiful 👍🏾
😅
Stop it
Totally unprofessional interviewer. One minute and thirty seconds in I'm already annoyed.
The interviewer definitely is terrible and detracts GREATLY from Jojo’s amazing and powerful story.
The interviewer spoils this entire documentary, shame on her.
I cant get through the first few minutes
Prayers for a continued happy,blessed nite🙏🙏🦋🖤
Yeaaa…this interviewer is annoying AF😒
Tragic
