If you're doing any more than 1/2 acre this mower doesn't make sense. i bought it because i had 2 gas mowers blow up on me in 5 years and i am already invested into the Milwaukee tool platform so i can use the 12ah batteries for my other tools as well.. this is almost 3 years old and i haven't had to buy any replacements, any gas, or carburetor rebuild kits. The only maintenance ive done is scrape the mower deck of wet grass and i did so without spilling any gas or oil everywhere.. and when the time of year comes when its dark after work the lights are a fantastic addition. I'll never buy a gas mower, weedwacker, or chainsaw for the house ever again-- until i level up my acreage lol

The wheels are literally falling off my Honda after almost ten years of abuse. The engine will likely go another ten but I think I gotta replace it with one of these Milwaukee mowers, for a few reasons. I'm not surprised that it performed well. I have a neighbour here in Japan who regularly mows a broad area with a similar mower by Makita. It too is powered by two 18v batteries and it is mowing mostly tough weeds, much like that bush at the end. They aren't that tall however, so the Makita is able to cut them without much effort. Makita also now have (here in Japan at least) a 40v (single battery) mower on the market and I suspect that is even tougher by a little bit. I haven't used the Makita myself, but I am impressed with the control system on the Milwaukee. I have no idea as to whether Milwaukee have released this here in Japan also, but I suspect that they might since Japan is also on a 100~110v system like the USA, so introducing it here would be relatively easy as the 18v chargers are already here.

Second comment as there seems to be a battle between battery vs. petrol engines. This isn't a battle between which is better, but rather, between circumstances. I have a 40v Max Makita strimmer (weed whacker I think you call it?) which is the equivalent to a 33CC engine so I'm told. My circumstances are that a) buying petrol is a chore, requiring filling out forms every time at the petrol station. b) I need something quiet and c) the area I use it in is not so large or a remote area where I require a petrol engine and an extra can of fuel or a petrol station nearby. One is better (battery vs. petrol engine) than the other but under differing circumstances. They are alternatives to attain the same goal. Nothing more, nothing less.

Hello, I purchased this mower for commercial mowing, it is absolutely perfect for St. Augustine(maintained lawns) but anything else... DO NOT BUY. The mower blades get locked up, pinned between blade and deck when mowing higher grass and thick grass. Basically if you ever let go of the lever while mowing grass, it will bind up when you start mowing again instantly.
    Battery life is good.
    Bag works well.
    Side discharge is amazing.
Folding and storage is the best part of this whole unit.

    • @dropshot1967
      @dropshot1967 Před 2 měsíci

True, but like lots of things it all depends on your priorities and application. This is a lot less loud, you don't have to go buy gas and oil and walk in the stink of the exhaust fumes. I used to do a lot of mowing with a Honda push mower for work and used a professional model from Honda that cost 1300 Euro. It to had trouble mowing that high grass. The big advantage it had was that I could mow close to 2 hours on one tank of gas if the grass was well maintained. 90 minutes for high heavy grass It was easy to fill the tank back up and continue mowing. It was loud though, you had to wear hearing protection running it.
In all I can see this being a perfect mower for people with a lawn that is not too big, that appreciate the quiet running. I do feel it is expensive but the price is offset a bit because you also get two batteries and the charger with it that you can also use in your other Milwaukee tools. If you don't care about the noise (for your neighbors or your hearing), or you have to mow a bigger lawn then this is probably not the mower for you and that is fine too.

I always have to wonder about electric vehicle and tool manufacturers. The use of batteries to power a mower definitely has its place but why would it have to be self propelled? It’s like all the extra lights and luxury items built into an electric car. I suppose it’s the only way they can sell them. I can see where it would have a place but I still prefer the convenience of filling up with gas and going all day.

Whatever you do, do NOT purchase the Old Milwaukee chop saw 6177-20. I got their 6176-20 with the exact same plastic handle with switch. The handle falls apart soon after purchase and I can't find a handle anywhere. If they had proper quality control, the handle would have been upgraded to metal long ago or redesigned to take the pressure off the handle or used a different type sturdy plastic. The consumer gets ripped off by poor quality control. I also purchased a drill and soon after the electric cord falls apart. The cord has special ends on it and was around $35. I find this as another quality control issue. I made a cord and with some difficulty, I was able to put everything back together and make it work. I'm finding that they have great products with poor quality controls and therefore, NOT as great due to that..

I'm within a tiny bit of your height I had a guy pace me, you know you walk @ 4mph my jogging pace is right @ 7mph so if you're moving along Josh my big friend you should walk at a good clip of 4mph though it will drop in uneven ground & up & down hill. The price Wooo Weee that's a bunch of bucks, generally I agree Milwaukee fuel is the snitztel a pretty fine tool I'm wondering if Metabo or other really good tool companies are turning out ie Bosch but I'd guess if you're turning & burning around corners your pushing 3mph on the straight & level getting after it 4mph no big prob. I have to watch this once more or twice undestracted to get it all I'm interested in the tall grass wet grass capabilities of this unit. Get after it yeah tall grass 1st cut cut higher or high setting then second pass for appearance no duh.

    Own it. I think it's fine BUT . . . . . .
Cost of ownership will be VERY high compared to gas over the long haul. Those batteries will not last forever and cost several hundred dollars to replace.
So, while I love the mower well enough, I am under no illusions as to the cost/benefit ratio.

imagine being the average homeowner that knows nothing about maintaining a small engine...they break out that $600 gas mower in the spring, can't get it started and the curbs in most cities are littlerally covered with gas mowers that won't start due to ethanol fuels

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I am not unfamiliar with the problems associated with small gas engines. I wish I could get away from them altogether. Maybe, by the time I need my next snow blower, the battery models will be where I'd need them to be. That still leaves the generator though. And the wood chipper. Guess I'll never get away from these things. The amazing thing to me is that my gas mower lasted for 21 years! With only the maintenance I was able to give it myself, i.e., one carb cleaning and a few spark plugs. Sold it the day after the Milwaukee arrived, still functioning well.

@@rondavis2791 Good grief, no, I did not mean to imply that! I only first ran my mower June 26th of this year. They're still new.
I have no idea as to how long they will last but it's a sobering thought that replacing the 12a-h M18 batts will cost about $700CDN after taxes. Maybe more now that the even pricier "Forge" batts are being sold by Milwaukee. So I hope to get at least a few years out of them.
Just checked . . . the new Milwaukee "Forge" HD12 batts are $388CDN ea at home depot. That means if I had to replace my batts today, the cost would be $892CDN after taxes.
So, while I love the mower so far, I think I might have been out of my mind to buy it considering the battery cost. Anyone thinking to "save" on gas/oil/spark plug expenses by buying one of these things better think long and hard. Battery convenience comes at huge cost.

But a standard mower is still $500 or less, and it’s built with many more parts. I’m always confused by the high cost of a battery and simple electric motor.
