    About this video: After moving from the UK to start a new life in Greece, we're on a mission to find the perfect village to build our dream home without breaking the bank. We're exploring 100 villages in 100 days, meeting the locals, and soaking up the charm of each place-while trying not to mess up the names! In this episode, we visit Kathiana, a village near the airport in Crete, where a kind local family invited us into their home to share a traditional Greek drink. These are the moments that make this journey so special, and we're excited to share them with you. Join us as we search for the perfect spot to build our new home in Greece. Welcome to '100 Villages in 100 Days'!

    Have you tried tsipouro? Is it the same as raki? 🥂

    • @giannisfrank2058

      Similar... I think raki its hardest

      I love tsipouro and raki, but there are 2 different things because of the distillation process. Also, there are 2 types of tsipouro: one with anise and one without - I prefer the latter. Hope this helps clear out the confusion...😊

      Helps, but we think we will need to try them one after another to see the difference

    This is very common for Crete for someone to invite you to the house and drink or eat something...And for us is an insult to not accept the invitation...We learn from our parents and we learn also our children to this kind of hospitality which you don't find it anywhere else...So....Welcome to Crete...if you haven't realized in which place you came...now you know....😂😂😂...

    I remember being on a tour bus on the Eastern side of Crete at the plateau and we stopped for lunch at a Taverna in Tzermiado...
    We asked for beers as we already had lunch and the waiter gave us a spirit he called, "Holy Water" for free 😎

    4:44 Britain is chasing you... ^^ There is a (very) old house next to the Airport for 49k€ 97qm on 328qm plot, it is in Mouzouras. I just saw that RE/MAX property agency has an office in Chania, you could visit them because i know that they have low cost properties all over Greece, maybe they are specialists on old houses or cheap plots. I also saw many cheap properties all over Greece from "Golden Home" but they have presence only in Heraklion as far as I can see. Very practical that you guys are also airplanes👌

    • @Sunpire
      @Sunpire  Před 20 dny

      We will eventually try all real estate agencies that are here in Crete. Also, we are checking all properties from spitogatos, but it is very tricky most of the time... Good one with airplanes 🤣🤣🤣

      @@Sunpire The main street in Kalyves has about 6 estate agents close together. Kalyves itself is quite expensive but the outlying districts have "renovation projects" (= piles of rubble). You can also find houses for sale by asking in village kafenion. Most houses are sold by word of mouth. If you say you want "ena spitaki" they will understand that it must be small.

    • @Sunpire
      @Sunpire  Před 20 dny +3

      It definitely depends on your lifestyle, what you're looking for, and what your necessities are. For some people can be easy, for others can be impossible 😅. So it's subjective, for us, we would prefer something in between, maybe a developed village. We'll see where we end up😂

    why you wanr a property close to the airport in the first place ?? it is naive to set it politely , you look in places where only last minute travelers would check in , id rather get half a house close to a beach rather a villa in the middle of nowhere , if the airport is so much special to you , get a van and do transfers , not a house , tourists want to see sea grapevines and stuffed grapeleaves not airoplanes
    tsipouro tastes like castrated raki or raki gone wrong

    • @Sunpire
      @Sunpire  Před 21 dnem +2

      We don't necessarily want a house near the airport. We go to every village to check out the village and see if it is a good fit for us and see what properties we can find.
