    Man the block of identical VE numbers in the idle range is so obvious after watching your video. I can’t believe I was trying to do a sloped VE across that area. That explains why my AFR was always jumping up and down as the idle finds its happy place

    Thanks for the help on this, good video. I've been trying to get my mustang to idle without hunting, it's been a pain. It seems like a lot of people are getting away from the Megasquirt platform for the Holley. You're videos are helping me out, thank you so much.

      Unfortunately it’s getting harder and harder to get questions answered in the Microsquirt community. It takes days to get facebook and forum posts approved by the admins and by then I’ve usually watched a video (like this) and figured it out

    Great info! I am tuning my first car, a 99 miata with a supercharger targeting 200hp. That aside, your ignition table is giving me confidence.
    All I've ever known is that we want 10-14 degrees advance, and now I am understanding that is a base figure ("x"). Still, 16 degrees seemed intimidating to me, this is on my base map around idle.

    • @ouchmouse5
      @ouchmouse5 Před 8 měsíci

      Sounds like you need to increase warmup or afterstart enrichment, if it only happens when cold then likely part of the startup process and not a problem with idle. I have a 96 turbo with big injectors and needed about 30-40% more fuel on startup @@RJ-dr8to

    Great video. I’m looking forward to adjusting mine. I find that my timing table jumps from 14 to 24 at low rpm and when I try to accelerate and disengage the clutch it will typically stall. I will work on the VE table and then adjust that timing accordingly.

      Check where your duty cycle is set on. I run the icv test and use that duty cycle where it idles on my table. If set below the car wanted to stall out on deacceration.

    Idle table at 10. Idle control adding +3, add advance 13 at 500 rpm. At 500 rpm will timing be +3 +13 =16 timing? Which will have it spike and overshot the normal idle?

  • @Jv19979
    @Jv19979 Před 5 měsíci

    My engine has a cam and the kpas and fuel idle up and down in kpa cell 75-80 is that normal. I didn't mess with it long . The AFR gauge says 10:1 to 11:1. Took 1 plug out and it was black

    Well i have an idle issue mine doesn't hunt it sits at 1500 then just starts dropping rpms and shuts off unless i give it throttle input. trick is its definintly not a stock car. its got upgraded cams 264/272 with a holley ls intake and a gm 95mm tb on a 3.0l v6. It's an older batch-fire ignition.

  • @02dag32

    I am going in circles, The idle is either not working or too high. It can be this from run to run and also in the same run. What I dont understand is when you do this with idle control end EGO disabled, you have to turn the screw on the TB to let some air in. what do you do then, when you want the idle control to be enabled again?

    • @plantpoweredhealth9383
      @plantpoweredhealth9383 Před 2 měsíci

      think you have to add fuel in the air temp map compensation, I'm about to do this on my Datsun as when I shut car off for 10 minutes and restart, its super lean AFR as the intake is cooking the air and fuel.

  • @rrbimmer
    @rrbimmer Před 8 měsíci

    beware also, that 10 BTDC that as rpm lowers 10 degrees advanced at 500rpm is a lot more advance at 500 rpm than 1000 rpm because of piston speed is slower

    I can't start my car without the idle air control turned on. It immediately sputters and dies. Is there a way to have it so that it can run without the idle air control on for the tuning step you mentioned?

    • @kevinhoronzy6011
      @kevinhoronzy6011 Před rokem +1

      Go into open loop. Keep adding fuel and like small increments..if at 34 go 36. If u go to high all the time u will never get anywhere. Then after open loop is good. Then close loop. Keep ego correction off for a few months.

      Stay in open loop till it runs perfectly. Once this is reached..even at higher idle then go close loop and adjust idle table. If starts oscillating at idle go back to open loop. Lower timing to 10 usually will drop the idle down for u. Then add fuel till perrs then back into close..ie due all your tuning in open then close loop to run

    Another way of doing it if you want a good idle fast. Tune it for as much vaccuum as the engine can pull at idle as possible. Afrs at idle isnt that accurate and dont have much to do with a good idle.
