Thanks for sharing your story. I have Crohn's and had an emergency ileostomy 2 months ago. I have the option to reverse it, so I've been listening to others' experiences with j pouches. What I'm learning is that bag or j pouch... there seems to be no "right answer." Both options have their ups and downs, and it's about which journey (and possible complications) you can be most at peace with. Sending healing & healthy thoughts to you! And I hope Stelara works wonders for you (it did for me and my fistulas, but sadly, I had a reaction to it and had to stop usage).

Can you make a 2 yr 4mo update? How are the antibiotics going vs Stelara? I also went majorly down the rabbit hole with that same scd book when I was flaring very badly with UC and sadly it didn't help at all. I wish it did though!

Are you still taking any medications for ulcerative colitis after surgery?
And how long I can live with j pouch?
I am currently on Stelara, a biologic. The only medication I am currently on. I seem to be doing well right now thankfully!
I think the J pouch can last your whole life if you take good care of yourself.
