- Segovia is a perfect day trip from Madrid, very accessible by train or bus! It is also an extremely historical city. With several UNESCO World Heritage sites, Segovia is a fascinating window into a different time period in Spain.

Another interesting landmark in Segovia is the Iglesia Veracruz. You can see it from the Alcazar, just outside Segovia. It was built around 1220 and is one of the few Knights Templar churches still standing in Spain, making it culturally and architecturally very significant. Few travellers go there.

You are correct. There is no mortar in the joints. It is a dry stone construction. Segovia is my favourite city in Spain

Thinking of doing a solo trip to Madrid and going on a few days trips by train. Is it easy to do that? Especially with no knowledge of the language?
Sounds like an amazing time! It’s definitely very doable. It will probably help to have just a few Spanish words/phrases, but there is a fair amount of English, especially in Madrid. Have fun, we love that region so much!
