  • In the wake of Stephen Hawking's death, fellow scientist Professor John Lennox reflects on Hawking's life, work, and beliefs. In 2011, Lennox wrote "God and Stephen Hawking: Whose Design Is It Anyway?" which challenges Hawking’s atheism and demonstrates that far from disproving a Creator God, Hawking’s arguments make his existence seem all the more probable.

    HAWKING’S HALLUCINATIONS
John Lennox's assessment of Hawking as being "dumb" outside science is spot on. Stephen Hawking’s “theoretical” world was a surreal place where “Grand Design” existed without a grand designer, and natural laws popped into existence without a cosmic Law giver. The highway to Hawking’s godless “Theory of Everything” is paved with unanswered questions, casualty problems, unproven theories, unresolved paradoxes, ever more mysteries, and unverifiable “theoretical” constructs founded on dodgy concepts using fancy math. In reality Hawking’s godless “Theory of Everything” turns out to be a “theory of Nothing”. The scientific world cannot bring “anything” into existence by natural processes and godless causes alone - from scratch: Life and conscientiousness included. Hawkings and his adoring disciples have all failed to grasp the absurdity of a finite humanity - with limited knowledge, understanding and insights - truly believing science can define the ultimate nature of ultimate reality - without God. As rightly stated by the Apostle Paul, “professing themselves to be wise they became fools . . . ever learning and never coming to a knowledge of the truth”

Seeking truth is a live long complex pursuit to improve oneself, not to selfishly benefit oneself. The reason why I distant myself from the Church in the past was because of the high number of followers who think that believing is all there is to it in living a religious life.

This is what I did and He revealed Himself through a manifestation of His Holy Spirit to where I was brought to believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that He is in fact lord by the encounter with Him. Religion just can't give you the 100% truth, only God can. Ask for the Holy Spirit to come and He will reveal Jesus to you. God bless brother.

Now you can give an actual and honest chance to Christianity and the Bible mate, it is so misrepresented that I think most of what people think about the Gospel message is wrong. God offers salvation by FAITH alone, apart from your works and hypocritical self-righteousness... Most "Christians" don't trust in God's righteousness, but strive to establish their own, which is what religion is all about. You can know you have this gift, if you believe, and if you are an intellectual type of person, the God of the Bible is logical and his ways are always right. Let me just give you a few things that you believe about Christianity, that are actually wrong:
      1. We are all sinners, even as a Christian, we all fall short and don't ultimately deserve to be glorified by God, that is why he saves by FAITH ALONE, so that even the worse people can have hope of eternal life.
      2. God absolutely hates the ways of the world, especially when it comes to religions. Jesus spoke mostly against the religious leaders of his day, rebuking their hypocrisy.
      3. God hates all idols and images, especially if people bow down to them, which is logical.
      4. God deals in absolutes - he is a perfect judge and a perfect saviour - it's up to you to choose in which role you want to meet him - he absolutely has to punish us in hell, but he doesn't want to, so he provided a way, so he is both righteous and just, and merciful at the same time.
      5. Your works don't matter, your faith and understanding is what does.
I myself was a mindless new ager and hated the Bible and religion, because I believed they are the same, boy was I wrong!

Atam: Very parroted and completely inaccurate statement. Mythology is what it is because there is absolutely no evidence to support the fictional god-like characters provided by societies in the past. Also, there was next to no similarities between Jesus and the mythological deities, so put the film Zeitgeist out of your head, because it is false, including by atheist scholar standards. Jesus Christ, however, has a great deal of evidence to support not only His existence, but His death, as well as the fact that many people, both His supporters and even some of His detractors, believed in His resurrection, which was spoken of immediately after the fact, and written of in most of these people's lifetimes, including by figures and historians of the time outside of the Bible, as determined by current experts in the field from all backgrounds and faiths, including atheism.

good sir, for those of us who perpetually seek truth, it is never too late to embrace truth even, and especially when, it contradicts our comfort zone or our previous notions. My only encouragement to you is to study the claims of the Bible and if you take seriously investigating if God is, I believe that would require praying to said God and being humble enough to ask Him to help you realize Him and understand Him and His words.
I do firmly believe the Bible is God's word, and I came from opposite side of the tracks as a boy raised by a single atheist mother who encouraged us to seek the truth and feel free to come to whatever conclusion, and I myself became an atheist for many years.
I ended up a believer in Jesus because the truth couldn't be suppressed by my false reasonings and warped perspective any longer. It became too obvious to me. I could list reasons and experiences and truths and prophesies, but I won't. I simply encourage you not to abandon looking into Christianity and giving it some humble examination and pursuit to see if what the Bible teaches is the truth, because whether we like the truth or not, or even believe in it, we ultimately will be dealing with it nonetheless. Thanks for your time, sorry I wrote a lengthy comment. :/

Prof. Lennox offered the highest praise to Hawking as a scientist, while at the same time offered some insightful and necessary criticisms of Hawking's more philosophical conclusions. But like SJW, some atheists commenters will just not put up with ANY criticism of their hero Hawking and their sacred belief in atheism. C'mon guys, if you have problems with something specific that Lennox said then interact with that and perhaps a decent conversation can begin. Sure Lennow is skeptical of Hawking's proposal and his overreaching philosophical conclusions. But isn't skepticism an attitude embedded in the very nature of science?

You simply provide a classic illustration of the point I made when you state that I “defend the religious position”! Man o man! What “religious position” did I defend again? Did I even make any? Why be so defensive? Why not engage the dialogue in a way that shed light than simply burn more fire (as SJW tend to do)? I’m tempted to return the compliment, “Get real, fool.”

Two man were crucified with Christ, one mocked him while he was dying and the other scolded him saying Jesus did nothing wrong but he did and so did the other guy, then he turned to Jesus and said remember me when you enter into your kingdom, Jesus told him this day you will be with me in paradise. God is merciful and you should think this way too. Many muslims are having dreams of Jesus visiting them and saving them, why? Because God is merciful and many do not know how to read so God shares with them the love that he has for them.

Who am I? One thinking individual who does not turn his thinking abilities off (which is by the way our only tool for understanding the world) in favor of what his society or the religion he was born into says.
Repeating somethings from bible won't give you any advantage in arguing sth. Muslims, Hindus and all other believers can repeat some phrases from their holly !!! books and it won't give them any advantage as it didn't give you any
Even if we believe that jesus was a real man in history and the story happened as you rephrased, again it won't prove anything. at its best somebody told sth to somebody else and then they died. again you will hear similar stories from believers of other religions in favor of their belief system. Will those stories have any value for you or make you change your mind?
About dreams: they prove absolutely nothing, NOTHING. All it takes is to eat too much or not enough before going to bed, have some hormones in action or think about sth for a while to create a dream at night. Do you still remember your teenage dreams? Are they proof for any divinity?
Besides, again there are thousands of Muslims who are convinced that Christians are converting to Isam because they are discovering truth through dream, revelation or other means.
None of these can be presented as proof to support this or that belief system
But returning to the main topic: It is unethical and nonsensical to after some brilliant person's death turn out and say: Now he meets the God and finds out he was wrong all his life, or gets punished ...
None of you know or have any means to understand what happens after death. You don't have a single tool to examine if your after death stories have any truth in them (beside dreams and dusty ancient books of course)
If you have a leg to stand on, face these brilliant minds while they are alive and prove them wrong. Or better ask your God to reveal himself in an undeniable way and put an end to these arguments.
Until that day, please be ethical enough, don't pretend to know thing you don't have slightest idea about and above all stop talking about what happens to these people after their death when they can't defend themselves

A good tactician but a poor strategist... Newton vs Einstein.... one tactically comes up with a predictive approach to gravity without explaining it, the other one explains it... I am not impressed at all by those world-class tacticians who tries to justify bad strategies with genius tactics. The same can be found in chess. Master tacticians who can justify sometimes bad positions gainst weaker opponents with grandiose tactics... Hawking is just that... a master of cheapos (chess term)...

"(1) we have evidence to support our beliefs and not just ancient books of fairy tales"
There is not even close to sufficient evidence to warrant belief in the triune God Christians claim to believe in. And I am not talking about arguments; but _evidence_ . There is not even a good definition of what the 3 persons in one being of YHWH / Holy Spirity / Jesus, is.
"- Can you give me evidence for your god, please?"
      I don't have a god.
"You clearly don't understand the Big Bang Theory"
I understand it much better than you do. Try reading some actual 21st century cosmology texts or peer reviewed papers and then getting back to me. I will get you started with some easily accessible descriptions which all back my point.

For instance the law of gravitation as formulated by Newton may indeed more or less accurately describe the agency of gravitational pull : what it does not do is prescribe that gravitational pull is the only relevant agency.
In a football match, some freewilled agencies are interfering with Earth's gravitational pull on the ball and therefore the actual movements of the ball will not illustrate a good graph of purified gravitational pull, most of the time, except when someone drops the ball from his head to the ground in order to shoot a penalty or reenter the ball. As soon as then his feet touch the ball, it is no longer just illustrating the law of gravitation, because it is no longer just under the agency of Earth's gravitational pull.

What lots of people (even pastors) don't (yet) understand.
God created us according to His own image and likeness. Godly.
Mankind/the first Adam fell. The image of God in man got lost. That's why there is all this predicament on earth (selfishness, greed, lust, wars, sicknesses, death, etc).
We are all born into that mess.
For the fall of man a perfect atoning sacrifice had to be made.... that is what God did in Christ.
With His own once and for all perefect sacrifice, He paid the debt for the fall of man for us, so we can be indwelled by His Spirit again and finally receive the divine life of the ages back, the first Adam let got of in the fall of man. An amazing act of grace and love by our creator.
That is what you see happening in Christ's first disciples. They too healed all and walked in unselfish love.
And yes.... that is still avaible today. The holy blood is in place, the Holy Spirit is here to give us understanding, power and transform us back to origin.
Not to be debated about, but to be embraced and be-come.
So: The Kingdom of God already came. Through Christ, in Spiritform, in those that understand.
Hence the divine healing miracles we experience.
God manifested in Christ to give us back the divine life mankind lost in the fall of Adam.
Christ, the exact image of the invisible God.
The image we were created after in Gen 1.
The image we lost in the fall of man.
The image that can be freely restored by Christ's blood and Holy Spirit working IN us.
What a plan. What a solution. What a love. What a God. Jesus is amazing.
It is the ultimate conclusion of the word and plan of God. God came full circle.
He Himself stooped down from glory to restore us back to original created value: Christlikeness. Walking in divine healing power and unselfish love.
Jesus, born of the Spirit of God, filled with the spirit of God. The "Son" of God, the incarnated word, God in the flesh.
For three years He healed all, raised the dead, casted out demons, controlled nature, spoke pure divine truth.
    He said:
"Follow Me. If you see Me, you see the Father. The Father and I are one. The glory I have IN My Father, I give to you. It pleases the Father to give you His Kingdom/Holy Spirit/divine nature. I will send Holy Spirit, the same as Me, He will be IN you, guide you into truth and give you explosive power. The same miracles i do, you will do too, because you will understand that the Father is IN Me and I am IN you. Freely I give you My Kingdom/Holy Spirit/divine nature, heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, freely I give, freely share" Etc, etc, etc.
I have experienced thousands of beautifull healing miracles through the power of Holy Spirit IN me already. Broken bones, cancers, covid, all kinds of infirmities healed in seconds. Demons manifesting and casted out by a simple "get out, in Jesus name".
Jesus. De name above all names. In Him all power and wisdom is sourced and.... He calls us one with Him. God in man and man in God again. C'mon Jesus!!
So.... again: God stooped down IN Christ to restore us back to Gen 1:27 were He said: "Let us make man according to our image and likeness and let them have authority.....": walk as Christ.
Christ, the exact image of the invisible God. The image we were created after and being restored to by His atoning blood for the fall of man and indwelling Holy Spirit.
You are free to receive this original divine life of the ages by Holy Spirit of Christ/God. Ask Him to guide you into truth. Read the Gospel of John and fall in love with your creator.
You are not made for the fall of man and its effects, but for the image/glory of God and to walk like Christ. Holy Spirit is the guide and transforming power that will get you there. Amazing grace.
A big leap in faith can be made when we start realizing we are already IN Christ, IN the last Adam.
Free from the fall! Loved! Growing into awareness of our new (yet old) godly identity. Changing by Holy Spirit. The most fullfilled life ever.
Paul healed all on Malta. He understood and wrote:
"As in the first Adam ALL died (lost the divine nature), so also ALL were made alive IN Christ to walk in Zoë (= divine life) again".
"IN Christ (the last Adam) we are co-cruisified (dead to the fall and its effects), co-raised (justified/made righteousness, holy, blameless, above reproach), co-seated (one with Him)"
"The fullness of deity dwells in Christ and YOU HAVE BEEN MADE COMPLETE IN HIM, who is the head of every principality and power".
So.... thank you Jesus! Thank you for redeeming me from the fall of man. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that makes this new (yet old) divine life come alive in me. You are amazing!
In the shadow of Peter the sick healed... He understood too and wrote:
"By Gods power (Holy Spirit) and knowing Christ, we have become partakers of the divine nature and have escaped the fall of man".
The divine life of the ages has been returned to us by Jesus once and for all perfect atoning sacrifice for the debt of the fall of man and His indwelling Holy Spirit in us. Jesus/God is amazing!!!
Ask Him to give you revelation and change you to the way it was before the fall of man: Christlikeness.
He will do so. For it is written: "the Spirit brings forth after His own kind".
"I have come to give you Zoë (divine life) in abundance...."

I should clarify myself in response to some of the comments. When I said if I had someone like Professor Lennox in my circle, I was referring to the intellectual struggle I endured upon reading A Brief History of Time. I was a young earth creationist who believed in plenary inspiration of scripture. Studied at seminary to be a preacher. When I read the scientific evidence which led me to the conclusion the literal creation story was questionable, the only response I got from those in my circle was rejection. Any attempt I made at reconciliation between the two was called heresy. ‘You cannot be a Christian if you reject the literal reading of genesis one,’ they replied. Furthermore, I could get no one to read Hawking’s book and attempt a refutation. Eventually, this led to my leaving the faith. In the ten years since, I have studied many areas of science and have become more certain of my atheism. So the jest of my comment was, if I had someone like Professor Lennox at hand who wasn’t afraid to read a book on science, I might have stayed in the fold. I am happier as an atheist. Reading science gives me as much (if not more) fulfillment than religion ever did.
