- The 1911 .45 caliber pistol, designed by John Browning, has been in constant production for over 100 years. Made by countless gun makers in countless variations, the Series 70 Government Model by Colt, the original manufacturer, sticks close to the configuration designated as the M1911A1 in 1926.

Nice that a Glock guy is keeping us old timers alive with shooting the best Auto ever made!! 👍
I bought my Mark lV Series 70 brand new in 1980 for $311.12 cents and still carry it to this day. I love this gun. ❤
i just bought someone s 1981 model for around $1k. I was wondering what they went for around that time brand new, thanks!
Now, $1.000.00
I'll bet you still have the receipt 😉
My pop's loved his pieces
When he passed in 2015
I became the owner of...

- Colt single army 357
magnum
- Smith & Wesson barrel
- HI-STANDARD H D
MILITARY .22 cal. Long
pistol
Thanks for showing
I've been carrying my Series 70 every day for years. My gun looks exactly like yours. During all this time, I only changed the springs in it. My grandfather gave me this Colt when I was 22 years old. Now I'm 35, but I still haven't found anything better for myself. I love the thin handle and smooth recoil.
I love mine. It was my father's and he passed away and I have had it ever since
I inherited my dad's service 1911 issued to him in 78 or 79 when he joined SWAT in Los Angeles.
I purchased mine new in 1976. Mine looked exactly like yours in 76 but has little ware after 42 years of use. These Series 70 Government Models will shoot any type of ammo from 200gr SWC lead to hollow points. Congratulations on your purchase.
Thanks! Enjoy your venerable pistol as well.
Ive heard the spring is too light for hot loads. Did you have any problems?
was the purchasing of firearms as much a headache as it is today?
Yes they will.
The Colt Government Mk IV Series 70 is my favorite. 45 automatic pistol.
Purchased mine new as a Police duty weapon in Houston in 1972. I paid less than $200.00 back then and still have it. Like me, it's retired and safely tucked away. All my .45ACP shooting now is done with a Thompson Contender and a Glock. Still love the big bullet. The Contender is a fun gun and with the ten inch barrel the big bullet gets a little more velocity.
I inherited an OG series 70 from my grandfather. It still looks mint. B-e-a-utiful gun.
The Series 70 Colt .45 was the most accurate pistol I've ever had. You had to try to miss with that pistol.
Thanks to the collet bushing, im which the gun in this video doesn't have!
well done video, colt 1911 MK1V/ series 70 governement model probably the best pistol i have ever owned.
I'm watching this again......it's that beautiful and brings back fond memories of the most accurate .45 I've ever had and I've had a lot of them.
Love my 1911, carried it back in the day in the Marine corps. Back in the 80's. Enjoy it!!
I'm loving it so far!
congratulations on the acquisition !!! the colt pistol is one of the best handguns in the world !!!
I have a rock island 1911 and I love it. This colt is beautiful. Congrats.
Beautiful and historic pistol. That gun was carried by every American fighter pilot in WW2.
Not so, some carried S&W Victory Models.
That's the 1911A1. This one here is a Colt Government
I can never get enough of these classic 1911s, especially the Colts.
Bought a Series 70 Gold Cup from a retired Police 0fficer years ago. Still a Tack Driver.
Just got one today actually
Best colt review I have seen, well done sir.
Nice Colt. Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat mags are awesome to use.
Excellent video! I have a MKIV Series 70 Combat Government model. I installed a new Bar-Sto barrel and solid bushing in it. Love these guns!
Of my 30 Model 1911s, 23 are Colt and of those one is a 1946 Argentine Sistema, two are US Gov't Property A1s, three Series 70 Gold Cup, and seventeen Series 70 Mk IV. All are very accurate and all have functioned flawlessly for years. I absolutely love the platform. I own ZERO polymer pistols and will never own one. My other 1911s are Remington R1, RIA, Kimber Pro Carry II, Ruger SR 1911, S&W Pro Series, Springfield Garrison, and Springfield Mil-Spec. I love them all, but my Colts are my favorites.
Well, I looked everywhere and couldn't find one of the Series 70 reissues like yours. Looked EVERYWHERE....no soap. Went to Gunbroker and said, "Someone has GOT to be auctioning one of these." Still no soap, but.....persistence pays off. Still couldn't find a custom reissue 70, but got lucky and found a jewel/gem/beauty of an original Series 70 mfg. in 1981. No scratches, no pitting, just some hard-to-see blue fade on bottom of slide near the muzzle. Can't tell it's a 41 year-old gun. No customizing, no bastardizing, no Kimber-like beavertail added....just a plain 70 with the original collett bushing. Blue slide is so shiny I can use it for a rear view mirror. Paid a quarter of a kidney for it but it's just paper and I've wanted this exact Colt (with same grips, wood with gold Rampant Pony) for decades. Thank you, Mr. Stuff....for keeping me on the hunt for my main must-have sidearms....the other being a 70's manufactured Browning Hi-Power with wood grips and standard hammer spur (not the ring hammer). Paid another quarter of a kidney for that, too. So I have half a kidney to spend on a few other classics, after which I'll see how much my spleen is worth.
I would only suggest to collectors/shooters of this .45....if you want to customize it, buy two and keep one just the way it is.
God Dude, I bought mine in 1978 from Barney's Gun Shop on Wardlow RD, in Long Beach, Ca. for $379. They had a good smith, in fact most of the LBPD purchased there and used their smith. I had it ramped and accurized, with a 2.5lb trigger pull. They threw in some King Tappan Custom Combat sights with the three dots. It came with one clip, so I bought two more. Barney used to let me load there as long as I bought my materials from him. I would load up 300 rounds of lead semi-wadcutters at a sitting then go shoot them up at the Long Beach police range, once a week. I pumped around 4 thousand rounds through that pistol and man I could put the whole clip through a 7 " black at 25 yards rapid fire, all day long. One thing you mentioned about the Trigger bite. Yeah, when shooting up 300 rounds I was experiencing a bloody hole in the flesh between the thumb and trigger finger. Instead of adding a longer beavertail, I just had the Hammer bobbed a bit and problem solved. I have used my 45 for home defense for over 40 years and I can tell you I sleep like a baby. Confidence is the name of the game. My Colt series 70 still does the job. Thank you for this video. It brought back alot of good memories.
Gorgeous, and no gun holds its value better than a colt 1911
yeah okay Elmer
never fierd M44 bought for 100 bucks in 2012... is now worth 300 ish and climbing
@@jasoncown you can pawn one these for half as much as you gave for it,can you do that with other 1911s, keep in mind there 800.00 at least new can you do that with your knockoff..ELMER!!
Thayer kinda like a big block Chevrolet nothing cooler
I love hearing this. This is the pistol I keep under my mattress if someone wants to come in and hurt me or my family.
I agree totally with your assessment of the reissued "70 Series" Colt. I bought one about 8 years ago to commemorate my almost 30 years of Army service. The A1's served me well in peace and war. The reissued series does seem to be a lot smoother than the old war horses. Compared to some of my more modern guns, they are definitely smoother. Accuracy-wise, my Colts are accurate enough for anything I want to do.
You definitely have WAY more experience with the platform than I do, so it's nice to hear that you think the Series 70 stacks up well.
After seeing this gun in my local shop (I was also looking for a WW2 lookalike 1911), I found your video. Walked in the next day to buy it! Excellent review and it's been a blast with absolutely no problems!
My favorite carry. Ive been carrying one since I was 18 years old. Im 69 now
Great presentation , very well done!!! Ive owned 3 or 4 of these pistols. Currently I own a Colt that I purchased on the 100th birthday of this amazing work of art. I watched Hickok 45 shoot one from ww1 that hit the gong out at 80 yards dead center. colt 1911, best of the best !!!
I saw that video as well!
Retired LEO since 2016 and I've watched this about five times. Finally soon to purchase this exact Colt after putting it off forever. Great video, Bradley! Solidifies why I'm not going for just any Colt .45. Not the newer Classic 01911-C, and definitely not the Series 80 (1991 series). It's the 01970A1-CS for me. Congrats to you and again, absolutely fantastic and informative presentation.
Nice! I know you're going to enjoy it!
I have a few 1911's a sig and norinco but the only colt 1911 I have is the delta elite in 10mm so I bit the bullet and bought the same MK IV Series 70 1911 GOV as you have ,I haven't received it yet but soon I hope. And your absolutely right 1911's feel great in the hand ;)
I was in the same boat as you, looking for a Government model. It had to be blued and it had to be a Colt and it had to have walnut grips. I ended up with the 1911 Classic and love it. It definitely scratched the itch. Thanks for sharing.
The 1911A1, mp40, mg42 and the m16 A1 are my all time favorite firearms. Your 1911 is beautiful.
M-16, Colt 1911 series 70 and ohhh course,my lovely Beretta 92 F, and the 92 FS, not comparación please, old School 10p%.
Beautiful Colt Government model. Love the classic features. I'll take this over a tricked out race gun any day. Thanks for sharing! My first firearm was a Colt Trooper .357 revolver purchased in the spring of 1964 at a Navy Exchange in the Philippines.
Beautiful had mine for a mighty long time.💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝
They are surprisingly accurate. A beautiful gun.
Great 1911! I have a colts combat commander made in 1978. Enjoy it!
Thanks!
Great review! Thank you for a such a thorough review!!!
Wow ,just wow historical awesomeness ,classy elegant ,beautiful wonderful.the most elegant pistol ever made
Wonderful choice, my good friend! Here's to many, many great years with this fine pistol!
Thanks! I'm sure I'll be holding onto it until I die.
After I got out of Army, bought a Colt Mk4 70 ,in 78. Sold it a few years later, regret.
It's a classic for sure.
I brought one Mark VI series 70 back in 1978 cal. .45 ACP for $199.99 plus PA sale tax. The gun came in original box. I paid on layaway plan since I was a student and only made $45.00 a week in 1978 as a student worker. I love the gun dispute a negative comments from friends. I will get rid of it when I die.
I keep mine and when I have money left I keep buying more. I have friends working at Colt and they can get discount. I never regret buying Colt compare to GE stocks!
I got out in 79 and have wanted one ever since. My FFL has a Classic waiting for me to come home from overseas to pick it up. Next week. Can’t hardly wait.
Hello, I see this video is about 2.5 yrs old now; but you did an excellent job making a timeless video about a timeless firearm. It was a pleasure to watch! Of course, the difficulty with owning a beautiful piece such as the Colt 1911 is the desire to keep it pristine while also wanting to shoot the hell out-of-it. Where is the balance? I don't know. For me...just start loading mags and banging away $$$$...it's not a Python. And the trigger on the 1911; so sweet. And hurling cannon balls down range, it's just not the same as 9mm. Ain't those 45 ACP rounds a joy when you got a bucket full of 'em and a whole bunch of mags to load! And it goes BOOM! not bang. Yep, I know.
-Thanks
It's a really beautiful pistol I love it
Good video! Thanks for posting.
Beautiful Pistol! Period! Happy for you. John
Thanks for watching!
Great weapon.I have had many. The real deal. Love them congrats.
Thanks!
Gorgeous!
The finishing on this is really really nice, leaps and bounds ahead of most firearms I've seen other than the really crazy (10k+) engraved stuff.
+Horatio Pagani - Yeah, I was really impressed with the craftsmanship.
Hahahahahaha! Dude, looks like this was "your first" and will never forget her...I'm currently looking into getting one of these, and I can't wait! Awesome video! Thank you! 😁👍
Nice piece you got there my friend I got two of them . Cheer it’s a keeper.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!
A GUN!!!!!!!!! OH, MY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude, that is a FREAKIN JEWEL. 1911's are such a beautiful thing it is amazing. I began my career as a Military Policeman with the 1911 and have been in love with .45 ever since. So so sweet.
I've owned .45's in the past but never a 1911. I don't know what took me so long!
Looking forward to seeing more videos like this
Beautiful video thanks
Nice shootin iron , the 1911 Colt is like a Citizens Band radio , or commonly referred to as the C.B. radio , and the C.B. stands for continuous buying , enjoy .
that's quite the 1911 you purchased there, nice!
Thanks!
There is nothing wrong with the 70 series Colt. If you think so, I'll buy it from you!
Oldie but goodie, I missed this vid. I have a series 70 Commander.
That, sir, is a wonderful tool. Congratulations :)
Thanks! I'm loving it so far.
Beautiful pistol the 1911 is my favourite pistol of all time , its a legend that never grows old .here in the UK since the ban on handguns decades ago ,There was always members in the club that would have various versions of them
I love the blueing and the original grips .Nothing like a 1911 no comparison to plastic glock.
Very nice 1911!
I've always admired these hand guns since I was a lad such a classic looking design Cheers Brad
I had wanted one since I was a child as well.
Wait what you had guns when you were a child?how
No, I wanted one ever since I was a child.
oh i think i might have misread that
Excellent purchase.
Lovely gun
Beautiful weapon, classic.
Can't go wrong with a Colt 1911.
Awesome video.
Thanks!
EXCELLENT!!!
Just got mine for 900. I'm very happy with it.
Great pistol. A buddy and I used to do a lot of Pin Shooting with .a 45. He eventually tricked his out fairly heavy. Sweet shooter.
Thanks!
Lovely pistol.
Thanks!
Great vid. Just ordered mine in stainless.
Nice. Enjoy!
A beauty!
First a Dunhill, now a 1911! Xmas came early 👍🏻
It sure did!
Very good video!
Thank You.
Thanks for watching!
Nice video, clear explanations, excellent photography. Beautiful Colt! My Mk IV Series 70 was made in 1976, it has the barrel collet, Parkerized finish, flat mainspring, tiny sights. Bought used at my favorite LGS for a nice price, it does have Pachmayr grips and mainspring housing unfortunately. Nevertheless, a fine pistol.
@scott holley I sold the pistol a few years ago, probably thought I needed the money.
Cool, Glock fan boy here. Been stuck on a big job here in China and been wanting a decent affordable 1911 forever. This will be the one when I get home along with a Gen 5 17.
It's a great basic 1911.
Did you get it?
Congratulations, Bradley! Beautiful 1911. I have a Springfield A1, which I enjoy a lot; good basic gun, and easy to work on. I really like the 1911 format in general. I just ordered some new grips for mine, and you've inspired me to get out to the range soon! There's nothing like the heft of steel. Enjoy...
I want to get out to the range this weekend too!
Yes, it is Gorgeous. A classic for sure and the sound and appearance of the quality comes through in the video. First firearm I ever fired was the 1911 in basic training. Now you need a Tommy Gun to complete the set. When I started shooting the Glock 21 I had to invest in reloading setup to keep myself in affordable ammo. I went for a simple press for .45 ACP only and it was pretty inexpensive. Happy shooting.
I might have to look into that sometime too. Guns are expensive enough without paying through the nose for ammo.
What a beauty!
Beautiful
Nice watch!
short trigger,very nice.good video man
Great pistol Yesterday Today and Tomorrow
I only shoot light target hand loads out of my Colt 45 Government Model. The bullet weight is 185 gr. button bullet. The recoil is very light very manageable. I never ever did shoot 230 gr. out from my Colt. Super accurate!
Best of the best . Nice Review !👍 😊👍
Beautiful gun
Very nice video, great hand gun.
Great video! I have two of those!! However mine are the new Classics. One never shot & is going in a case when I get one that can be bookends . Mine has a straight main spring housing. My Springfield has the arched. I'm not long fingered so the straight works for me a little better. The curved down tang beaver tail was designed that way because the gun was designed to be shot with one hand and it helps keep the gun stable. I think it looks better than the curve up beaver tail.
FYI the classic goes for 2k on gun brokers
realy cool pistol budy congrats ;)
Such a bad-ass weapon!
She IS a beauty!
Just picked up the Stainless one! Awesome review my man.
Nice! Thanks for watching.
Yes simple, colt mark lv, 70, the best ever made, likes two guns, Beretta 92 F, and Colt 1911 45 acp. Thanks for the video😅
Glock in a colt video...blasphemy ! Sweet pistol , great video, thank you for sharing. I just won one on GB, waiting on delivery.
the 45 i am looking for, for so long now.
That's a pretty gun
Nice gun Bradley I had a feeling this was what you would come out with. There really is just something about a that classic look enjoy. Also as a guy just getting into pipe smoking for real your videos are so helpful. I had a pipe as a kid and thought I just didn't like it. Now I realize it was just that I don't like aromatics. I saw your petterson Irish flake review got it and have been in love with my pipe ever since. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad the pipe videos have helped you out.
nice review
Great video!
Thanks!
If thats a "classic" its got a national match barrel also. Mine shoots very good.
Its a tac driver
It's so cool. awesome gun, I love it!
