- Hello again, hope everyone is well! I was asked to do a walking stick with a Wood Spirit carving. I found a nice piece of Ash with a bit of spalting in it. Beautiful grain pattern once the oil finish was added. Here you will see some power carving to get a nice sleeping wood spirit to come out of the wood. I have added some details on which tools I use during the process. Let me know in the comments if this is something useful to you and if you would like me to continue to add this to the videos. Hope you enjoy the build and thanks for watching.

Well, look at how beautiful that wood is with the worm holes and spalted areas. . I do love the wood spirits, and this one is great! Awesome walking stick. Your customer is going to love ❤️ it!
Thank you for your kind words. I love finding these sticks, not always easy but this one had everything in it… I got lucky. Happy that you liked it and always great to hear from you.
It's seems funny us in uk only go up to 1inch thick,we would use something like this for fence post, love the spirit face😊
Yes, it depends on the type of wood. With hardwoods you can get away with smaller diameters… thanks for watching!
On a binge watch today before I start the season off 👍🏴
Hope you enjoy the builds, I have a few of them online so it might take you a bit to look through them all!
@@JasonHedrich Great 👌
What a beautiful piece. The thoughtful placement and expert carving. The teak oil and ash combo.
I really like you using the dremel and love that you took the time to name the bits when you switch them out.
Thank you for this video
Awesome to hear your comments. Thanks for taking the time to write.

Awesome stick Jason, I like working with ash also. It's so fun to watch other Walking Stick Artist achieve amazing results in different ways. Love It and I am sure your customer will as well!
Thank you! Glad you liked it. Yes, now the nervous week long wait to see if it ships ok! Thanks for writing
Hello Jason, I love your work and am learning a great deal from you. I am interested in the tools and supplies you use in the walking sticks. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much for writing! Glad you are enjoying the videos. Let me know if there’s something I can help with
Real nice Jason
Thank you
Awesome job
Thank you very much
Really good to see you're content quality improve over the last few months of videos, especially the naming of the tools.
The spokeshave is one that had me searching Google from an earlier vid.
Keep up the great work mate, your videos are pretty darn good! Very informative and interesting.
Thank you very much! Always learning and improving (I hope!). Happy to hear that you are liking the videos
Appreciate your work, how many hrs did this project take you..
Thank you very much. In total, most projects range from 5 to 10 hours with all the sanding and finishing
Do you know anyway to reinforce any cracks in a walking stick by chance?
I’ve added epoxy and that’s helped on some sticks with checks and cracks. Add some Color into the epoxy and it adds a nice accent to the finished piece
very nice!!! trying my first one with oak limb that fell in back yard. Should I use same tools or is Oak too tough?
Awesome, good luck with the project. You can carve oak with chisels, but a rotary tool will be easier for the face details.
Jason, what do you recommend for a finish for a using staff?
I’ve been using Teak oil or Danish oil… I want to try Linseed oil next. But I’ve also used polyurethane, lacquer and even paste wax for top coats. They all give something to the wood. But mostly been sticking with the oils because they go into the wood fibres and not just sit on top like a polyurethane… hope that helps
Thanks; I have been using tung oil. Takes days to dry.@@JasonHedrich
Hi there! Can you tell me what is the cost of your walking stick and I hat type of wood?
This stick was made from ash, but I use just about anything I can find… I’ve used cedar, ash, oak, maple, butternut. They all work. Each type of walking stick varies in cost depending on the type of carving and details go into it. If you have an idea in mind, write to me at jhedrich73@gmail.com and we can discuss it
