What do you pro guys think about Pli-Stix, that torch meltable crack filling material that comes in rolls of various sizes available at local home stores? Is it worth the extra time and labor versus just a pour in cold filler type product?
Pli-Stix is a good alternative instead of using cold pour crack filler, but if you need to fill cracks that is half inch wide it's more ideal to use hot pour crack filler.
They are decent at filling cracks but it takes a lot of time to apply when you consider how much the mass reduces when you melt it. Not to mention how long you have to apply the flame to get it to melt.
would it help to saw cut on both sides of crack to help bond patch ?
It's important that all the loose dirt and debris is cleaned out to a 1/2 inch in the cracks. Make sure the sidewalls are clean. You can route them as well but this is a costly process but ideal. Is their a difference on the hot rubber or is it all the same. My driveway was done a week ago and doesn't seem to be drying as good as two years ago?
Cold pour can take a while to cure up for sure. Give it some time and it should cure.
Can I use a heat gun on cold poured asphalt to speed up process. Such as the bag of cold asphalt
No, definitely not recommended. Liquid pour dries and cures slowly but surely. Hot pour dried and cures as it comes back to ambient temperature. About 20 minutes.
I applied cold pour to a crack to fill it (used filler and sealer) that I bought at Home Depot. Can I now hire people to pour hot patch over the cold pour? Or should it be scraped off first?.. Thank you!
Natalie Bachina Fantastic question! You can absolutely apply hot pour crack sealer on any cold for a crack sealer that may have been applied previously as long as it’s not loose and crumbling. If you have loose parts please make sure to remove those before any kind of hot pour application

Can I put sand in a North star sealing.machines like
No you cannot. It is never advised to add sand to any spray system that has a centrifugal pump. Only air operated pumps. Are you a contractor or doing a job yourself to protect your own investment?
A cold pour does not last long. I tried them all and obtained unsatisfactory results after a winter in NY. It was fine until the winter. I will try hot pour now. I think that this is the only viable option in the NorthEast or Canada. I have seen parking lots in front of grocery stores done with hot pour and this stuff works.
Absolutely agree! Hot pour crack sealer is by far the longest lasting way of preventing water from getting into cracks and eroding the foundation causing potholes and depressions that lead to the need of replacement.
I apply hot pour on a slab, problem is that the asphalt peeled off, it won't stick on slab roof. Is it OK to apply primer then pour the melted asphalt.?
I wish we could advise better on a roof repair but to be absolutely honest, asphalt crack sealer is really designed for asphalt pavement and not roof or concrete. You could give it a try but it’s formulated for pavement bonding.

In general does the cold pour hold up as well as the hot? driveway, so light traffic. Or is it worth figuring out small scale hot pour options for a homeowner.
Good morning! Our cold pour holds up well but there is no doubt that hot pour is by far better and will outlast cold pour by double the lifespan. We recommend hot pour if you can.

@@AsphaltKingdom all said and done the rmk 10 is a good choice for the homeowner I've found. I used a bucket and burner and although being careful tar gets down there sides of the pot and catches on 🔥. Next time I'll use a melter and a pour pot. Was decently dangerous.
Can you do a hot pour to fill cracks on a sloped driveway?

The machine is good, although the support chains in the back holding the propane tank broke off after 48 hours of operation. The bracket itself holding the tank needs to be redesigned maybe reinforced...other than that machine works well.

On the hot pour, how badly will it bleed through and leave that visible line after sealing? I see in a lot of parking lots the hot pour lines, is that just from the filling the cracks and not sealing it?
Simmons Outdoors, Great question! Generally, when you see black markings on the parking lot that looks like crack fill it means that it wasn’t previously sealed but instead just crack filled. In other instances you may notice that the sealer may be faded or oxidized over time and because crack filler is more viscous And durable it will show for many years to come versus the sealer. A continuous Asheville maintenance program for both crack filler and sealer is ideal to maintain the surface but also to continuously maintain the Aesthetic value as well.
One other question that I seem to get a lot of mixed answers on, unrelated to the crack filler is; if a asphalt driveway has been sealed with an oil based sealer, can I apply water based on top of that? and same with the reverse. I suppose the real question is, once asphalt is sealed with oil or water does it have to continue with the same type for maintenance in the future? Thanks
Great questions! The best way to make sure you don't end up with separation of materials and a inconsistent finish is to wait for the previous coating of sealer to ware and fade so that the new coating adheres properly. Let us know if you have any further questions. Happy to help.
why isn't my cold pour crack filler not hardening ?
There could be a few reasons for this. Was the cold pour applied and then was the surface sealcoated with sealer? What kind of cold pour are you using? Did it happen to rain when the cold pour was going through it’s curing stage?
I can get straight tar from the asphalt plant, can I use it straight or should I mix some Rubberized filler in with it.
Either way I will most likely sprinkle some sand over the top while it cures.

I already have both, so I will fill most of the large cracks with tar and finish it off with the rubberized while the tar is still hot so that they bond.
Your price is much better than what I already got though, so if I need more I will order it from you.
Sam Garofalo understood. Be cautious with the tar though that it isn’t tacky and tracks into home or building. We hear about this happening all the time.

Yes that was an afterthought, that’s why I was thinking about putting the rubberized on top and using the tar for most of the void and only in the drive area away from the walkway

Honestly I hope you found the right solution for your crack but depending on the size of the crack I'm sure they offer a trowel grade crack filler for wider cracks. So you don't have to do any experimenting.
I cut sawed two straight lines in my driveway thinking I was going to rip it up, install drainage pipes and pay someone to fill it back up. Now, I think I’ve changed my mind - how should I fill those 2 saw lines that span my driveway? Cold pour good enough?
Yes, you may use a cold pour crack filler for the saw lines. For cracks that are half-inch wide, it's more ideal to use hot pour crack filler.
@@AsphaltKingdom should I try to fill the saw lines with something a little more solid like concrete or mortar first, and then pour some cold pour over that? I’m just worried since the cuts span the whole driveway width wise that it’ll want to move or sink over time

@@breaktime919 cold pour will be fine for a smaller job like you have. Hot pour is always a longer lasting solution but you’d need a melting kettle which is a larger investment around $900.
